Doctrine Analysis
Doctrine Analysis: Zechariah
Purpose
This document maps every doctrine identified for the Zechariah curriculum onto the full text of the book, chapter by chapter, and then presents the complete doctrine matrix in the format required for Phase 2 review routing. The core passage (Zechariah 9:9-10, The Coming Messianic King) is the theological anchor of the curriculum but not its scope boundary — all fourteen chapters are analyzed below, and any chapter contributing no new doctrinal or terminological load is explicitly marked as reviewed rather than silently omitted.

| 4 | 4:6-10a | Power of God versus Human Might | High | ”Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” — negated human শক্তি contrasted with God’s সামর্থ্য; requires disambiguating note per baseline forbidden-term rule. |

| 9 | 9:11-17 | The Coming Messianic King (covenant/restoration); Restoration of Jerusalem and the Temple | High | ”Blood of the covenant” (9:11), prisoners freed from the waterless pit, restoration and future flourishing of Judah and Ephraim. |
| 10 | 10:1-2 | True Worship versus False Spiritual Mediation | High | Idols and diviners contrasted with seeking rain/blessing from the LORD; requires pastoral framing note re: Hindu/folk-Muslim vocabulary collision. |

| 10 | 10:3-12 | Restoration of Jerusalem and the Temple; Visions of God’s Sovereign Plan | High | Strengthening of Judah, gathering and multiplying of the scattered flock. |
| 11 | 11:1-3 | Visions of God’s Sovereign Plan | High | Lament over the cedars and shepherds of Lebanon/Bashan — judgment oracle continuing the sovereign-plan theme. |
| 11 | 11:4-17 | Shepherd-King Christology; Betrayal Price Typology; Covenant Curse and Blessing | High | Flock doomed to slaughter; thirty pieces of silver thrown to the potter (11:12-13) — must harmonize with future Matt 27:9-10; breaking of covenant with “all the peoples” (11:10). |
| 12 | 12:1-9 | Visions of God’s Sovereign Plan; God’s Zeal for Zion | High | Siege of Jerusalem, God’s defense of the city and house of David. |
| 12 | 12:10-14 | The Piercing of the One They Have Pierced; The Outpoured Spirit of Grace and Supplication | Critical / High | Central christological verse of the book; grammatical person-shift (“look on me… mourn for him”) and the deepest mourning category (“as for an only son”) must both be retained. |
| 13 | 13:1 | Typological Justification and Cleansing | Critical | ”Fountain opened for sin and uncleanness” — deliberately pairs পাপ and অশুচিতা; mandatory note distinguishing this from ongoing Hindu shuddhi ritual-purity practice. |

| 14 | 14:1-15 | The Day of the LORD; Visions of God’s Sovereign Plan; The Divine Name and Sovereignty of YHWH | Critical / High | Cosmic upheaval, the LORD going out to fight, living waters (14:8) flowing from Jerusalem. |
| 14 | 14:9 | Divine Oneness and Trinitarian Compatibility; The Coming Messianic King | Critical / High | ”The LORD will be king over all the earth; the LORD will be one, and his name one” — requires mandatory Trinitarian-compatibility note. |
| 14 | 14:16-19 | Universal Worship and Inclusion of the Nations | High | Nations required to keep the Feast of Tabernacles (কুটিরবাস-পর্ব) at Jerusalem. |
| 14 | 14:20-21 | Holiness Extending to Everyday Life | Medium | ”Holy to the LORD” inscribed even on horse-bells and cooking pots — totalizing scope must be preserved. |
Full-book coverage confirmation: All 14 chapters have been reviewed. No chapter of Zechariah is without doctrinal or terminological load relevant to this curriculum; every chapter appears in the table above with at least one doctrine assignment.
Section 2 — Full Doctrine Matrix
This matrix is identical in doctrine set, risk tier, and review routing to assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json. It adds a “Translation Risk” narrative column summarizing the specific rendering hazard for Phase 2 translators.
Critical Risk (5) — Human theologian review required for every occurrence
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Zechariah) | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Coming Messianic King | 3:8; 6:12-13; 9:9-10; 14:9 | শাখা and রাজা alone read as generic botanical/secular terms; must be anchored to দায়ূদের বংশ and খ্রীষ্ট (baseline TM) so the paradox of a sovereign, self-humbled, divinely vindicated king is not lost. | Human theologian |
| The Piercing of the One They Have Pierced | 12:10-14 | বিদ্ধ করা must retain lethal, bodily force and the startling grammatical person-shift (“me”/“him”); softening to metaphor destroys the verse’s direct christological force (quoted John 19:37). | Human theologian |
| The Divine Name and Sovereignty of YHWH | 1:1,3-4; 4:6; 8:2; 14:9 | সদাপ্রভু is distinct from baseline TM প্রভু (used for Christ, κύριος); omitting the clarifying note obscures the NT’s deliberate claim of YHWH’s identity for Jesus. | Human theologian |
| Typological Justification and Cleansing | 3:1-5; 13:1 | 13:1 deliberately pairs moral sin (পাপ) with OT ceremonial impurity (অশুচিতা), categories the baseline otherwise separates to avoid Hindu shuddhi collision; must be framed as a superseded OT type fulfilled in Christ. | Human theologian |
| Divine Oneness and Trinitarian Compatibility | 14:9 | Echoes Islamic tawhid emphasis on strict divine oneness; without a mandatory note risks being read as anti-Trinitarian, or as ammunition against Muslim-background readers rather than shared ground. | Human theologian |
High Risk (15) — Human theologian review required
| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Zechariah) | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Restoration of Jerusalem and the Temple | 1:16-17; 2:1-13; 4:1-10; 8:1-8 | সত্যের নগর/পবিত্র পর্বত risks being read as endorsing claims about the modern political city; requires pastoral framing. | Human theologian |
| Visions of God’s Sovereign Plan for His People | 1:7-21; 4:1-14; 5:5-11; 6:1-8; 9:1-8; 11:1-3 | বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু risks softening into a tribal war-title; বায়ু/আত্মা imagery risks unintended Holy Spirit conflation. | Human theologian |
| God’s Zeal for Zion | 1:14-17; 2:8; 8:2; 12:1-9 | ঈর্ষা carries petty-rivalry connotation; must use অন্তর্জ্বালা/প্রচণ্ড অনুরাগ for ardent covenant-love. | Human theologian |
| Inspiration of Scripture | 1:1; 7:8 | সদাপ্রভুর বচন must be marked as authoritative divine speech, not human opinion, Qur’anic dictation, or Hindu shruti. | Human theologian |
| Covenant Repentance | 1:2-6; 7:1-14 | ফিরে আসা must be relational covenant repentance reciprocated by God, not karmic self-improvement or bare geographic return. | Human theologian |
| Priest-King Typology | 3:8-10; 6:9-15 | শাখা and মুকুট on a priest risk being read as a literal historical coronation of Joshua rather than prophecy of Christ’s united royal-priestly office (Heb 7-8). | Human theologian |
| True Worship versus False Spiritual Mediation | 10:1-2; 13:2-6 | প্রতিমা collides with Hindu devotional-image vocabulary; গণক names an active social role; requires pastoral framing against ethnographic misreading. | Human theologian |
| Shepherd-King Christology | 10:2-3; 11:4-17; 13:7-9 | মেষপালক must be rendered consistently, harmonizing with future John 10 and Matt 26:31 renderings. | Human theologian |
| Betrayal Price Typology | 11:12-13 | ত্রিশ রৌপ্যমুদ্রা must harmonize with future Matt 27:9-10 rendering (Judas typology). | Human theologian |

| Universal Worship and Inclusion of the Nations | 8:18-23; 9:10; 14:16-19 | জাতিগণ must not be softened into vague tolerance language; কুটিরবাস-পর্ব needs explanatory framing. | Human theologian |
| The Outpoured Spirit of Grace and Supplication | 12:10 | আত্মা’s ambiguity (inward disposition vs. পবিত্র আত্মা) present in the Hebrew must be preserved, not resolved. | Human theologian |
| Providence and Refining Discipline | 13:8-9 | Refining imagery must be framed as personal purposive discipline (ঈশ্বরের পরিচালনা), not impersonal karmic cause-and-effect. | Human theologian |
| Power of God versus Human Might | 4:6 | Legitimate negated use of শক্তি (human might) must not be confused with the baseline’s absolute prohibition of শক্তি for God’s own power. | Human theologian |
| The Presence of God Dwelling in Zion | 2:10-13 | মধ্যে বাস করা must be personal relational presence, not pantheistic land-indwelling. | Human theologian |

| Doctrine | Supporting Passages (Zechariah) | Translation Risk | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Covenant Curse and Blessing | 5:1-4; 8:9-17; 11:10 | অভিশাপ’s primary association is a folk-magical hex; distinguish from formal covenant-legal sanction. | Native speaker review |
| Remnant and Election | 8:6,11-12 | অবশিষ্ট লোক must connect to ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন (sovereign choice), not karma-based survival. | Native speaker review |
| Holiness Extending to Everyday Life | 14:20-21 | Totalizing scope (even horse-bells, cooking pots) must not be conflated with Hindu shuddhi household-purity practice. | Native speaker review |
| Covenant Formula of Mutual Belonging | 13:9 | Recurs across the OT; must render identically wherever it appears in future curricula, mainly a consistency risk. | Native speaker review |
| Fasting and True Religion | 7:1-7; 8:19 | উপবাস vocabulary is shared across Hindu, Muslim, and Christian fasting traditions; the passage’s critique of ritual fasting without justice/mercy must not be softened. | Native speaker review |

Critical Risk Doctrines
The Coming Messianic King
Bengali name: আসন্ন মশীহি রাজা
Key terms: the Branch, your king, righteous, having salvation, humble, donkey, one LORD and his name one
Review routing: Human theologian
রাজা alone reads as a generic secular ruler (historical Hindu rajas, zamindars) and শাখা alone reads as an ordinary botanical branch; both require mandatory translator notes tying them to দায়ূদের বংশ and খ্রীষ্ট (baseline TM) so the paradox of a sovereign yet self-humbled, divinely-vindicated king is not lost.
The Piercing of the One They Have Pierced
Bengali name: যাকে তারা বিদ্ধ করেছে তার শোক
Key terms: pierced, mourning for an only son, spirit of grace and pleading
Review routing: Human theologian
বিদ্ধ করা must retain lethal, bodily force and the startling first-person/third-person grammatical shift in the Hebrew; softening to a non-violent metaphor destroys the verse’s direct christological force, quoted of Christ’s wound in John 19:37.
The Divine Name and Sovereignty of YHWH
Bengali name: সদাপ্রভুর নাম ও সার্বভৌমত্ব
Key terms: LORD (YHWH), LORD of hosts
Review routing: Human theologian
সদাপ্রভু is a new Critical-risk term for this curriculum, distinct from baseline TM প্রভু (used for Christ’s NT Lordship, κύριος); without a clarifying translator note, readers may miss that the NT’s Lord-language for Jesus deliberately claims YHWH’s own identity for Christ, a doctrinal bridge essential to later NT curricula.
Typological Justification and Cleansing
Bengali name: টাইপ-স্বরূপ ধার্মিকীকরণ ও শুচিতা
Key terms: Satan the accuser, filthy garments/clean garments, iniquity removed, fountain opened for sin and uncleanness
Review routing: Human theologian
The fountain of 13:1 deliberately pairs moral sin (পাপ) with OT ceremonial impurity (অশুচিতা), which baseline material otherwise strongly distinguishes to avoid Hindu shuddhi ritual-purity collision; a mandatory note must frame this as a superseded OT legal category fulfilled in Christ, not an endorsement of ongoing ritual purification practice.
Divine Oneness and Trinitarian Compatibility
Bengali name: সদাপ্রভুর একত্ব ও ত্রিত্ব সামঞ্জস্য
Key terms: the LORD will be king over all the earth, one LORD, and his name one
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘one LORD’ affirmation strongly echoes Islamic tawhid emphasis on God’s absolute oneness; without a mandatory clarifying note this verse could be misused by Muslim-background readers to argue against Trinitarian doctrine, or handled by Christian teachers in a way that obscures the genuine common ground of radical monotheism shared with Muslim neighbors.
High Risk Doctrines
Restoration of Jerusalem and the Temple
Bengali name: যিরূশালেম ও মন্দিরের পুনরুদ্ধার
Key terms: measuring line, dwell in the midst, city of truth, holy mountain, not by might nor by power
Review routing: Human theologian
সত্যের নগর/পবিত্র পর্বত describes Jerusalem’s God-given restored moral-spiritual character; without pastoral framing this can be misread as a theological endorsement of claims about the modern political city of Jerusalem, a live sensitivity in a religiously plural regional context.
Visions of God’s Sovereign Plan for His People
Bengali name: ঈশ্বরের সার্বভৌম পরিকল্পনার দর্শন
Key terms: LORD of hosts, seven eyes, four winds of heaven, horns of the nations
Review routing: Human theologian
বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু risks being softened into a tribal war-patron title, and আত্মা/বায়ু imagery risks unintended conflation with পবিত্র আত্মা; both require careful distinguishing notes to preserve God’s total, personal sovereignty over history rather than an impersonal or martial reading.
God’s Zeal for Zion
Bengali name: সিয়োনের জন্য ঈশ্বরের অন্তর্জ্বালা
Key terms: zeal for Zion, apple of his eye
Review routing: Human theologian
The standard Bengali word for jealousy, ঈর্ষা, carries a petty-rivalry connotation; God’s covenantal zeal must instead be rendered with অন্তর্জ্বালা/প্রচণ্ড অনুরাগ to preserve ardent, protective covenant-love rather than possessive envy.
Inspiration of Scripture
Bengali name: পবিত্রশাস্ত্রের প্রেরণা
Key terms: word of the LORD
Review routing: Human theologian
সদাপ্রভুর বচন must be clearly marked as authoritative divine speech distinct from the prophet’s own words; risk of conflation with the Islamic doctrine of the Qur’an’s verbal dictation or the Hindu concept of shruti heard by sages if the divine-speech marker is dropped.
Covenant Repentance
Bengali name: নিয়ম-ভিত্তিক মন-পরিবর্তন
Key terms: return/repent, true justice kindness and mercy, hearts like flint
Review routing: Human theologian
ফিরে আসা must convey relational covenant repentance reciprocated by God, not mere physical return from exile nor a karmic self-improvement framework common in Hindu-influenced popular piety.
Priest-King Typology
Bengali name: যাজক-রাজার পূর্বচ্ছায়া
Key terms: the Branch, crowns, priest on his throne, counsel of peace
Review routing: Human theologian
শাখা and মুকুট placed on a priest risk being read as a literal historical coronation of Joshua rather than a prophetic sign pointing to Christ’s future union of royal and priestly office (Heb 7-8); a cross-reference note is essential.
True Worship versus False Spiritual Mediation
Bengali name: সত্য উপাসনা বনাম ভ্রান্ত মধ্যস্থতা
Key terms: idols speak lies, diviners
Review routing: Human theologian
প্রতিমা is the same word used for Hindu devotional images (e.g., Durga Puja প্রতিমা), and গণক names a still-active social role in Hindu and folk-Muslim Bengali contexts; without a pastoral framing note the passage’s critique of false spiritual mediation risks being read as an ethnographic attack on a neighbor’s religious community.
Shepherd-King Christology
Bengali name: মেষপালক-রাজা খ্রীষ্টতত্ত্ব
Key terms: shepherd, flock doomed to slaughter, strike the shepherd
Review routing: Human theologian
মেষপালক must be rendered consistently across the book and must be renderable identically when a future Gospels curriculum translates Christ’s self-identification as the Good Shepherd (John 10) and his quotation of Zech 13:7 in Matt 26:31.
Betrayal Price Typology
Bengali name: বিশ্বাসঘাতকতার মূল্যের পূর্বচ্ছায়া
Key terms: thirty pieces of silver, potter
Review routing: Human theologian
ত্রিশ রৌপ্যমুদ্রা must be rendered so as to harmonize with a future Gospels-curriculum translation of Matt 27:9-10’s direct quotation regarding Judas’s betrayal payment for Jesus; a generic rendering would lose the typological link.
The Day of the LORD
Bengali name: সদাপ্রভুর দিনের শেষকালীন শিক্ষা
Key terms: day of the LORD
Review routing: Human theologian
সদাপ্রভুর দিন must be read as a specific, climactic historical-eschatological event of divine intervention, not a vague recurring ‘age’; risk of resonance with Hindu yuga-cycle cosmology if rendered too generically.
Universal Worship and Inclusion of the Nations
Bengali name: জাতিগণের সার্বজনীন উপাসনায় অন্তর্ভুক্তি
Key terms: he shall speak peace to the nations, Feast of Tabernacles
Review routing: Human theologian
This directly extends the baseline’s High-risk doctrine Unity of Jews and Gentiles into the OT; জাতিগণ must not be softened into vague tolerance language, and the unfamiliar কুটিরবাস-পর্ব festival requires explanatory framing so the inclusion of the nations in worship is not lost on readers unfamiliar with OT festival categories.
The Outpoured Spirit of Grace and Supplication
Bengali name: অনুগ্রহ ও প্রার্থনার আত্মার বর্ষণ
Key terms: spirit of grace and pleading
Review routing: Human theologian
আত্মা risks being read as either a mere inward disposition or specifically as পবিত্র আত্মা (baseline TM, Critical, reserved for the Holy Spirit’s person); the ambiguity present in the Hebrew must be preserved rather than resolved prematurely in translation.
Providence and Refining Discipline
Bengali name: ঈশ্বরের পরিচালনায় পরিশোধনকারী শাসন
Key terms: refine like silver, test like gold
Review routing: Human theologian
The refining-fire imagery must be framed as God’s personal, purposive discipline (connecting to baseline TM ঈশ্বরের পরিচালনা), not an impersonal karmic cause-and-effect suffering-purifies-the-soul framework prevalent in Hindu popular thought.
Power of God versus Human Might
Bengali name: ঈশ্বরের সামর্থ্য বনাম মানবিক শক্তি
Key terms: not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit
Review routing: Human theologian
This verse legitimately uses শক্তি to describe negated human/political might, which must not be confused with the baseline’s absolute prohibition of শক্তি as a positive description of God’s own power (reserved for সামর্থ্য); a distinguishing translator note is required so the negation is not misread as contradicting the baseline rule.
The Presence of God Dwelling in Zion
Bengali name: সিয়োনে ঈশ্বরের উপস্থিতি
Key terms: dwell in the midst
Review routing: Human theologian
মধ্যে বাস করা must be read as God’s personal, relational presence returning to his people, not a pantheistic indwelling of the land itself; a note connecting this to দেহধারণ and মহিমা (baseline TM) helps anchor it for later NT cross-reference.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Covenant Curse and Blessing
Bengali name: নিয়ম-অভিশাপ ও আশীর্বাদ
Key terms: flying scroll, curse, break covenant with all the peoples
Review routing: Native speaker review
অভিশাপ’s primary Bengali association is a magical hex invoked by a sorcerer or in folk religion; a note distinguishing this formal covenant-legal sanction pronounced by God’s own word from folk-magical cursing is recommended.
Remnant and Election
Bengali name: অবশিষ্ট লোক ও ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন
Key terms: remnant
Review routing: Native speaker review
অবশিষ্ট লোক must be read as God’s sovereign preserving choice (connecting to baseline TM ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন), not a karma-determined survival of the fittest or most religiously meritorious.
Holiness Extending to Everyday Life
Bengali name: নিত্যদিনের জীবনে পবিত্রতার ব্যাপ্তি
Key terms: holy to the LORD
Review routing: Native speaker review
The totalizing scope of even horse-bells and cooking pots becoming পবিত্র must be preserved rather than narrowed only to cultic objects, and must not be conflated with Hindu ritual-purity (shuddhi) practices applied to household objects.
Covenant Formula of Mutual Belonging
Bengali name: নিয়মের পারস্পরিক স্বীকৃতির বচন
Key terms: they are my people, the LORD is my God
Review routing: Native speaker review
This classic covenant-recognition refrain recurs across the OT and mainly carries a consistency risk; it should be rendered identically wherever it appears in future OT curricula rather than varied stylistically.
Fasting and True Religion
Bengali name: উপবাস ও সত্য ধর্মপরায়ণতা
Key terms: fasting, fasts turned to feasts
Review routing: Native speaker review
উপবাস is vocabulary shared across Hindu vrat-fasting, Muslim Ramadan fasting, and Christian fasting traditions; this shared vocabulary is not itself a doctrinal problem, but the passage’s sharp critique of ritual fasting practiced without justice and mercy must be preserved rather than softened into generic religious-observance language.
Low Risk Doctrines
Architectural Restoration Imagery
Bengali name: পুনর্নির্মাণের স্থাপত্য চিত্রকল্প
Key terms: measuring line, lampstand, flying scroll
Review routing: Automated review
Standard descriptive images of planned restoration and judgment with minimal doctrinal ambiguity; no religious-vocabulary collision risk beyond terminology consistency.
Everyday Covenant Blessing Imagery
Bengali name: প্রতিদিনের নিয়ম-আশীর্বাদের চিত্রকল্প
Key terms: old men and children safely in the streets, hearts like flint
Review routing: Automated review
Vivid, concrete everyday-life imagery of covenant peace and blessing; translates naturally into Bengali with minimal doctrinal risk.
