Cross-Reference Analysis
Cross-Reference Analysis: Isaiah (Full Book)
0. Methodology, Citation Normalization, and Scope
Citation format. All citations in this document use the normalized form <Book> <chapter>:<verse> (e.g., Isaiah 53:5, Romans 10:16, Genesis 15:6). This is the form to be stored in cross-reference metadata; Phase 2 rendering into the Bengali citation format (e.g., রোমীয় ১০:১৬ or “Romans 10:16” per house style, per the baseline’s open question) is governed by 12_ai_translation_requirements.md’s Cross-Reference Preservation Rules.
Bengali book-name table (extends baseline). The baseline 12_ai_translation_requirements.md fixed: Romans = রোমীয়, Genesis = আদিপুস্তক, Psalms = গীতসংহিতা, Isaiah = যিশাইয়, Habakkuk = হবক্কূক, Joel = যোয়েল. This curriculum requires additional book names, fixed here for consistency:

Scope. Section 1 gives the full verse-by-verse cross-reference matrix for the core passage, Isaiah 53:1-12. Section 2 gives a chapter-by-chapter matrix for the whole book (chapters 1-66), covering: (a) Old Testament allusions/quotations embedded within Isaiah itself; (b) New Testament quotations and allusions of Isaiah; (c) messianic references and typology; (d) direct parallels to the Romans curriculum already governed by the baseline package. Section 3 consolidates rendering-consistency rules — the specific requirement that any Isaiah verse directly quoted in a New Testament book (especially Romans) must receive a Bengali rendering identical to (or, where the baseline has already fixed the NT-side rendering, fully consistent with) that NT occurrence, since learners will encounter both texts within the same curriculum family. Section 4 summarizes messianic typology across the book. Section 5 is a doctrine-level parallel table to the Romans baseline’s doctrine_risk_registry.json.
Risk tiers follow the baseline definitions exactly (Critical/High/Medium/Low; see baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json). “Translation sensitivity” in the tables below states the tier and the specific reason.
1. Core Passage Matrix: Isaiah 53:1-12
| Isaiah Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 53:1 | Unbelief despite revelation; faith by hearing | The Servant; “we” (Israel/humanity) | Quoted verbatim: Romans 10:16 (“Lord, who has believed our report?”); echoed John 12:38 | Critical. বিশ্বাস (faith, baseline) and the “report/arm of the LORD” phrase must match whatever Bengali rendering is fixed for Romans 10:16 in the Romans curriculum, since this is a direct quotation, not merely a thematic echo. |
| Isaiah 53:2 | Unimpressive, humble appearing of the Messiah | The Servant | Typological root of Christ’s humble incarnation (cf. Philippians 2:6-8); shares “root/branch” imagery with Isaiah 11:1,10 | High. Must not contradict Deity of Christ doctrine — humble appearance ≠ diminished nature. |
| Isaiah 53:3 | Rejection and sorrow of the Messiah | The Servant | Background to Mark 15:29-32 (mockery at the cross); “man of sorrows” theme resumed in John 1:11 (“his own people did not receive him”) | High — see baseline Humanity of Christ doctrine. |
| Isaiah 53:4 | Substitutionary bearing of sickness/sorrow | The Servant | Quoted directly: Matthew 8:17 (“He took our illnesses and bore our diseases”) | Critical. বহন করা (bear, new Isaiah term) must be checked against whatever Bengali rendering Matthew 8:17 receives in any parallel Gospels curriculum for this language pair; both must use the same “bear/carry” verb family. |
| Isaiah 53:5 | Penal substitutionary atonement; peace with God | The Servant | Quoted/echoed: 1 Peter 2:24-25 (“by his wounds you have been healed”); underlies Romans 5:1’s “peace with God” (baseline doctrine peace_with_god) | Critical. This is the doctrinal anchor verse of the entire chapter. শাস্তি/শান্তি phonetic-collision risk (see 08_core_glossary.md #37) must be resolved with extra proofreading care; the peace (শান্তি) achieved here is the Old Testament root of Romans 5:1’s peace with God — both must use the identical baseline শান্তি term. |
| Isaiah 53:6 | Universal human waywardness; substitution | ”All we” (universal); the Servant | Direct conceptual parallel to Romans 3:23 (“all have sinned”); quoted 1 Peter 2:25 | Critical — universality (“all we like sheep”) must not be softened, per baseline validation rule on universal-scope language (cf. baseline doctrine universal_human_accountability). |
| Isaiah 53:7 | Voluntary, silent suffering | The Servant (lamb imagery) | Quoted: Acts 8:32-33 (the Ethiopian eunuch’s question to Philip); background to John 1:29 (“Lamb of God”) and the Passover lamb, Exodus 12 | Critical. মেষশিশু (lamb) rendering must align with the established NT title “Lamb of God” (ঈশ্বরের মেষশিশু) if/when a Gospels or Revelation curriculum for this language pair is produced — flag for forward cross-curricular consistency. |
| Isaiah 53:8 | Unjust legal condemnation; substitution for “my people” | The Servant | Quoted verbatim: Acts 8:32-33 (continues from v.7); background to the unjust trial of Jesus, Luke 23:1-25 | High — বিচার (judgment/trial) must be read in context as a corrupted human legal proceeding, not a statement about God’s own righteous judgment. |
| Isaiah 53:9 | Sinlessness of the Servant | The Servant; “a rich man” (typological, fulfilled by Joseph of Arimathea) | Quoted: 1 Peter 2:22 (“he committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth”); historical fulfillment Matthew 27:57-60 | High — সহিংসতা/প্রতারণা (violence/deceit) must together affirm total moral innocence, the logical precondition for substitutionary atonement. |
| Isaiah 53:10 | Divine will accomplished through suffering; guilt offering; resurrection implied (“prolong his days”) | The Servant; “the LORD” (সদাপ্রভু) | Conceptual background to Hebrews 9:28 and the whole Levitical guilt-offering system, Leviticus 5-7; “he shall see his offspring… prolong his days” anticipates the resurrection, cf. Romans 6:9 | Critical. দোষার্থক বলি (guilt offering) is the single highest-doctrinal-density new term in the book (see 08_core_glossary.md #34); “prolong his days” must not be read to deny the Servant’s actual death — it presupposes resurrection, consistent with baseline resurrection_of_christ doctrine (never পুনর্জন্ম). |
| Isaiah 53:11 | Justification; the Servant’s knowledge produces righteousness in “many” | The Servant, “my servant”; “many” (the justified) | This verse is the OT’s clearest statement of the doctrine underlying Romans 5:15,19 (“the many”); direct conceptual and lexical root of baseline justification (ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া) and imputed righteousness (আরোপিত ধার্মিকতা) | Critical — highest-priority consistency rule in the whole curriculum. The causative phrase ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য করবেন MUST be built directly from the baseline justification phrase without deviation; this is the phrase that gives Romans’ doctrine of justification its Old Testament textual foundation, and any inconsistency between the two curricula at this exact phrase would create a visible doctrinal fracture for any learner using both curricula. |
| Isaiah 53:12 | Exaltation following humiliation; intercession; substitution restated | The Servant | Quoted: Mark 15:28, Luke 22:37 (“numbered with the transgressors”); Hebrews 9:28 (“to bear the sins of many”); pattern parallels Philippians 2:9-11 (exaltation after humiliation) | Critical. মধ্যস্থতা (intercession) must reuse the baseline term exactly (per baseline doctrine prayer_and_intercession/intercession); this is the OT root of Romans 8:34’s statement that Christ “intercedes for us.” |
2. Chapter-by-Chapter Cross-Reference Matrix (Isaiah 1-66)
Chapters 1-4 — Israel’s Rebellion; the Coming Remnant
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 1:2 | Covenant lawsuit; heaven and earth as witnesses | Israel (as rebellious child) | Alludes to Deuteronomy 32:1 (Song of Moses covenant-witness formula) | Medium — establishes the “covenant lawsuit” genre reused throughout the book. |
| Isaiah 1:9 | Total judgment averted only by grace | Sodom, Gomorrah (typological) | Quoted: Romans 9:29 (“Unless the Lord of hosts had left us offspring, we would have been like Sodom”) | High — direct Romans quotation; reuse বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু (LORD of hosts) consistently with the Romans-curriculum rendering of this same verse if produced. |
| Isaiah 1:11-17 | True worship vs. empty ritual; justice and mercy | — | Anticipates prophetic critique reused Matthew 15:8-9 (Isaiah 29:13) and Amos 5:21-24 | Medium. |
| Isaiah 1:18 | Cleansing of sin (“scarlet… white as snow”) | — | Echoed conceptually in Psalm 51:7 | Medium — do not render as ritual purification (see baseline holy/sanctification cautions). |
| Isaiah 2:2-4 | Nations streaming to Zion; universal peace | ”all the nations” | Near-verbatim parallel: Micah 4:1-3; anticipates baseline doctrine kingdom_of_god and Salvation Extended to the Nations | High — first statement of the Gentile-inclusion theme resumed at chs. 49, 56, 60, 66. |
| Isaiah 2:8,18,20 | Idolatry condemned | — | Root text for the extended idol-polemic of chs. 40-46, 57 | Critical — see মূর্তি discussion, 08_core_glossary.md #50. |
| Isaiah 3-4 | Judgment on leaders; the Branch of the LORD | The Branch (messianic title) | First occurrence of “Branch” title, resumed Isaiah 11:1, Jeremiah 23:5 | High. |
Chapter 5 — The Song of the Vineyard
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 5:1-7 | Israel as an unfruitful vineyard | God (vineyard-owner); Israel (vineyard) | Directly reused in Jesus’s parable: Matthew 21:33-46, Mark 12:1-12, Luke 20:9-19 | High — দ্রাক্ষাক্ষেত্র (vineyard) must be rendered identically to any Gospels-curriculum rendering of the parable of the tenants. |
| Isaiah 5:8-23 | Six-fold “woe” oracle against social injustice | — | Establishes the woe-oracle form reused Isaiah 10:1; 28:1; 29:1; 30:1; 31:1; 33:1; conceptually parallel to Matthew 23:13-29’s “woe to you” oracles | Medium. |
Chapter 6 — The Holiness and Majesty of God
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 6:1-3 | Threefold holiness; God’s glory filling the earth | The LORD, seraphim | Quoted/echoed: Revelation 4:8 (“Holy, holy, holy”); John 12:41 (“Isaiah said these things because he saw his [Christ’s] glory”) | Critical. John 12:41 directly identifies the “Lord” Isaiah saw with Christ — a load-bearing deity-of-Christ cross-reference. পবিত্র পবিত্র পবিত্র must be preserved in tripled form exactly, matching Revelation 4:8 if a Revelation curriculum exists. |
| Isaiah 6:9-10 | Judicial hardening; spiritual blindness | Isaiah; the people | Quoted: Matthew 13:14-15, Mark 4:12, Luke 8:10, John 12:40, Acts 28:26-27; and Romans 11:8 (thematically, “eyes to see”) | Critical — this is one of the most frequently re-quoted OT texts in the NT; must be rendered so that all NT quotations of it can be recognized as citing this exact verse. |
| Isaiah 6:13 | Holy seed/remnant preserved through judgment | — | Root of remnant theology resumed Isaiah 10:20-22, quoted Romans 9:27-29 (via 10:22-23) | High. |
Chapters 7-8 — The Immanuel Sign
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 7:14 | Virgin birth sign; Immanuel | The virgin; Immanuel (typologically Christ) | Quoted verbatim: Matthew 1:23 | Critical. কুমারী and ইম্মানুয়েল must reuse the exact established Bengali NT forms from Matthew 1:23 without variation — this is the paradigm case of an OT text whose Bengali Isaiah-curriculum rendering is entirely governed by its NT quotation, not the reverse. |
| Isaiah 8:8,10 | ”God with us” reaffirmed | Immanuel | Reinforces 7:14; conceptual root of baseline Incarnation doctrine (দেহধারণ) | Critical (consistency with 7:14). |
| Isaiah 8:14 | The LORD as stone of stumbling | The LORD (typologically Christ) | Quoted: Romans 9:33, 1 Peter 2:8 | Critical — Romans 9:33 fuses this verse with Isaiah 28:16; both must be rendered so a Bengali reader can recognize the same “stone/rock” vocabulary in both source verses. |
| Isaiah 8:12-13 | Do not fear what they fear; regard the LORD as holy | — | Quoted: 1 Peter 3:14-15 | Medium. |
Chapter 9 — The Messianic Child; Throne Names
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 9:1-2 | Light dawning in darkness (Galilee) | — | Quoted: Matthew 4:15-16 | High — geographic/messianic-dawn fulfillment; আলো (light) vocabulary should anticipate ch. 42:6, 49:6, 60:1. |
| Isaiah 9:6-7 | Four throne-names; eternal Davidic reign | The child (Messiah) | Root text for baseline doctrines deity_of_christ, sonship_of_christ; throne “of David” reused Luke 1:32-33 | Critical — see full glossary entries #19-22. |
Chapter 10 — Assyria as God’s Instrument; the Remnant
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 10:5 | Pagan empire as instrument of divine judgment | Assyria | Root text for baseline doctrine “Sovereignty of God over the Nations” | High. |
| Isaiah 10:22-23 | A remnant will be saved | — | Quoted: Romans 9:27-28 | Critical — direct Romans quotation; অবশিষ্ট লোক (remnant) and পরিত্রাণ (salvation, baseline) must both match whatever rendering the Romans curriculum uses at 9:27-28. |
Chapter 11 — The Root of Jesse; the Sevenfold Spirit
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 11:1-2 | Messianic shoot; Spirit resting on him | The Branch/Root; the Spirit | Fulfillment: Luke 3:22 (“the Holy Spirit descended… in bodily form”), Luke 4:18 (quoting Isaiah 61:1) | Critical. |
| Isaiah 11:10 | Root of Jesse as hope for the nations | The Root of Jesse | Quoted verbatim: Romans 15:12 | Critical — direct Romans quotation. যিশয়ের মূল must be checked against the exact rendering used at Romans 15:12 in the Romans-language package; if that rendering differs from this Isaiah curriculum’s proposal, one must be corrected for consistency. |
| Isaiah 11:6-9 | Eschatological peace, wolf and lamb | — | Echoed Isaiah 65:25; typological background to the New Heavens and New Earth doctrine | Medium. |
Chapter 12 — Song of Praise for Salvation
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 12:2-3 | God as salvation; wells of salvation | — | Etymological link to the name “Yeshua/Jesus” (see 07_semantic_analysis.md) | Critical (baseline পরিত্রাণ term). |
Chapters 13-23 — Oracles Against the Nations
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 13:1-14:23 | Judgment on Babylon; fall of “Day Star, son of Dawn” | King of Babylon (typologically read by later tradition as a satanic figure) | Ch.14’s “Day Star” language echoed in later apocalyptic imagery, e.g. Luke 10:18, Revelation 12 (typological, not direct quotation) | Medium — avoid over-identifying the Babylonian king directly with Satan in the base text; note the later typological application separately. |
| Isaiah 13:10 | Cosmic darkness at the day of the LORD | — | Echoed: Matthew 24:29, Mark 13:24-25 | Medium. |
| Isaiah 15-17 (Moab, Damascus) | God’s sovereignty over the nations | Moab, Damascus | No direct NT quotation; reuses established সদাপ্রভু, ভারবাণী vocabulary | Low — reviewed, no new cross-reference beyond established terms. |
| Isaiah 18 (Cush), 19-20 (Egypt) | God’s sovereignty extends even to Egypt; future worship of the LORD by Egypt (19:19-25) | Egypt | Isaiah 19:19-25 anticipates Gentile inclusion, a notable anticipation of Salvation Extended to the Nations doctrine | High — a striking, easily overlooked text where Egypt itself is promised covenant blessing (“Blessed be Egypt my people,” 19:25); render carefully to preserve full force. |
| Isaiah 21-23 (Babylon, Edom/Dumah, Arabia, Jerusalem, Tyre) | Continued nation-oracles | — | No new direct NT quotation; reuses established vocabulary | Low — reviewed, no new cross-reference. |
| Isaiah 22:13 | ”Eat and drink, for tomorrow we die” | — | Quoted: 1 Corinthians 15:32 | Medium — Paul cites this fatalistic slogan to contrast with resurrection hope; context must make clear Isaiah records it as a condemned attitude, not an endorsed one. |
Chapters 24-27 — The “Isaiah Apocalypse”
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 24:1-23 | Cosmic judgment on the earth | — | Thematic background to Revelation 6-19’s apocalyptic judgments (no direct quotation) | Medium. |
| Isaiah 25:8 | Death swallowed up forever | — | Quoted: 1 Corinthians 15:54; echoed Revelation 21:4 (“no more tears”) | Critical — direct Pauline quotation; মৃত্যুকে গ্রাস করা must match the rendering used for 1 Corinthians 15:54 wherever that curriculum exists. |
| Isaiah 26:19 | Bodily resurrection of the dead | — | Conceptual parallel Daniel 12:2; background to John 5:28-29 and baseline resurrection_of_christ doctrine | Critical — পুনরুত্থান vocabulary, never পুনর্জন্ম, per baseline forbidden-substitution rule. |
| Isaiah 27:1 | Leviathan subdued | — | Cosmic-chaos-monster imagery echoed Revelation 12:3, 9 (the dragon) — typological parallel, not direct quotation | Low-Medium. |
| Isaiah 27:9 | Removal of sin as covenant fruit | — | Conceptually echoed Romans 11:27 (“this will be my covenant with them, when I take away their sins”) — same phrase as Isaiah 59:21 combined at Romans 11:27 | High — see Isaiah 59 entry below; this is part of a composite OT quotation in Romans 11:26-27. |
Chapter 28 — The Cornerstone; Woe to Scoffers
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 28:11-12 | Foreign tongues as a sign of judgment | — | Quoted: 1 Corinthians 14:21 | Medium. |
| Isaiah 28:16 | Tested, precious cornerstone; whoever believes will not be in haste/put to shame | The cornerstone (typologically Christ) | Quoted: Romans 9:33, Romans 10:11, 1 Peter 2:6 | Critical. কোণের প্রধান পাথর and the “will not be put to shame” clause must be rendered identically at both Romans citations (9:33 and 10:11) if this curriculum’s translations are to remain internally consistent with the baseline Romans package — a direct textual overlap between the two curricula. |
Chapter 29 — Hypocrisy and Hidden Wisdom
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 29:10 | Spirit of stupor/deep sleep | — | Quoted: Romans 11:8 | High. |

| Isaiah 29:16 | Potter and clay; creature questioning creator | — | Echoed Isaiah 45:9, Isaiah 64:8; quoted-in-substance Romans 9:20 | High — establish consistent কুমার/মৃৎপাত্র (potter/clay) vocabulary across all three Isaiah occurrences and the Romans 9:20 quotation. |
Chapters 30-31 — Trust in Egypt vs. Trust in the LORD
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 30:15 | Salvation through quiet trust, not self-reliance | — | Conceptually parallel to baseline Faith doctrine applied nationally | Medium. |
| Isaiah 31:1-3 | Woe to those who trust in Egypt’s horses, not the LORD | — | No direct NT quotation; reuses established vocabulary | Low — reviewed, no new cross-reference. |
Chapters 32-33 — The Righteous King; the LORD as Judge
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |

| Isaiah 32:15 | Spirit poured out from on high | The Holy Spirit | Anticipates Joel 2:28, fulfilled Acts 2:17-21 | Critical (per baseline holy_spirit). |
| Isaiah 33:22 | The LORD as judge, lawgiver, king | The LORD | Threefold sovereignty title; no direct NT quotation | Medium. |
Chapters 34-35 — Judgment and the Highway of Holiness
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Isaiah 35:8 | The Way/Highway of Holiness | — | Precursor to Isaiah 40:3’s “way of the LORD,” fulfilled by John the Baptist | Medium. |
Chapters 36-39 — Hezekiah and Sennacherib (Historical Narrative)
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 36-37 | Assyrian siege of Jerusalem; Hezekiah’s prayer and deliverance | Hezekiah, Sennacherib, Isaiah | Parallel historical accounts: 2 Kings 18:13-19:37, 2 Chronicles 32:1-23 | Low — proper names only (হিষ্কিয়, সন্হেরীব); reviewed, no new theological cross-reference. |
| Isaiah 38 | Hezekiah’s illness and healing; the sign of the sundial | Hezekiah | Parallel: 2 Kings 20:1-11 | Low. |
| Isaiah 39 | Babylonian envoys; Isaiah’s prophecy of exile | Hezekiah, Merodach-baladan | Parallel: 2 Kings 20:12-19; sets up the Babylonian-exile backdrop for chs. 40-55 | Medium — narrative hinge into the “Comfort” section. |
Chapters 40-48 — Comfort, Sovereignty over the Nations, Idolatry Exposed, Cyrus
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 40:3 | Voice crying in the wilderness | The forerunner (fulfilled by John the Baptist) | Quoted in all four Gospels: Matthew 3:3, Mark 1:3, Luke 3:4-6, John 1:23 | Critical. মরুভূমিতে ডাক must be rendered so as to align with whatever Gospels-curriculum rendering is eventually fixed for these four parallel NT texts — a rare case of one OT verse anchoring four separate NT quotations. |
| Isaiah 40:6-8 | Human transience vs. the enduring word of God | — | Quoted: 1 Peter 1:24-25 | High. |
| Isaiah 40:13 | Unsearchable mind of the LORD | — | Quoted: Romans 11:34, 1 Corinthians 2:16 | High — part of the doxology closing Romans 9-11; সামর্থ্য/providence vocabulary should align. |
| Isaiah 41:8-10 | God’s chosen servant Israel; “fear not” | Israel; Abraham | Background to Israel’s identity as “seed of Abraham,” cf. Romans 11:1 | Medium. |
| Isaiah 42:1-4 | First Servant Song: the gentle, justice-bringing Servant | The Servant (fulfilled in Christ) | Quoted verbatim: Matthew 12:18-21 | Critical. দাস (Servant) rendering, once fixed, must be checked against Matthew 12:18-21’s Bengali rendering for exact consistency — this is the first of the four Servant Songs and sets the pattern for ch. 49, 50, and the core passage ch. 53. |
| Isaiah 43:20-21 | God’s chosen, praising people | — | Echoed: 1 Peter 2:9 (“a chosen people… that you may proclaim his excellencies”) | Medium. |
| Isaiah 44:6 | ”I am the first and I am the last” | The LORD | Echoed: Revelation 1:8,17; 22:13 (Christ as “Alpha and Omega”) applied to Jesus | Critical — direct deity-of-Christ implication when this self-declaration is later applied to Jesus in Revelation; আমিই প্রথম ও শেষ must be theologically flagged for this trajectory. |
| Isaiah 45:1 | Cyrus as “his anointed” | Cyrus | Non-Messianic use of the mashiach root; contrast with Isaiah 61:1 | Critical — see 08_core_glossary.md #15; must never be rendered খ্রীষ্ট. |
| Isaiah 45:9 | Potter and clay; do not question the Maker | — | Echoed Romans 9:20 | High (see also 29:16, 64:8). |
| Isaiah 45:23 | Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess | The LORD | Quoted: Romans 14:11; echoed Philippians 2:10-11 (applied to Christ) | Critical — Philippians 2:10-11 applies this exact LORD-exclusive worship language to Jesus, a direct deity-of-Christ text; rendering must not weaken the totality (“every knee,” “every tongue”). |
| Isaiah 46-48 | Idols cannot save; Babylon’s fall; Cyrus’s commission continued | Babylon, Cyrus | Reuses established idol-polemic and সদাপ্রভু vocabulary | Critical (idol vocabulary), otherwise Low-Medium — reviewed. |
Chapters 49-52 — The Servant Songs Continued; the Herald
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 49:1-6 | Second Servant Song: light to the nations | The Servant | Quoted: Luke 2:32, Acts 13:47 | Critical — direct link to baseline doctrine “Salvation Extended to the Nations”; জাতিগণের আলো must align with Luke 2:32/Acts 13:47 renderings. |
| Isaiah 49:8 | ”In a day of salvation I have helped you” | — | Quoted: 2 Corinthians 6:2 | High — পরিত্রাণ (baseline) reused; Paul applies this to the present gospel moment. |
| Isaiah 50:4-9 | Third Servant Song: voluntary submission to abuse | The Servant | Background to Matthew 26:67; 27:26,30 (passion narrative) | High. |
| Isaiah 51:17,22 | Cup of the LORD’s wrath | — | Background to Matthew 26:39 (Gethsemane, “let this cup pass from me”) | High — direct conceptual bridge to Christ’s atoning suffering. |
| Isaiah 52:5 | God’s name blasphemed among the nations because of Israel’s sin | — | Quoted: Romans 2:24 | Critical — direct Romans quotation; must match that curriculum’s rendering exactly. |
| Isaiah 52:7 | Beautiful feet of the herald of good news | The herald (gospel proclaimer) | Quoted verbatim: Romans 10:15 | Critical — highest-priority direct textual overlap with the Romans baseline curriculum. সুসমাচার and সুসমাচার প্রচার must be reused exactly as fixed in the baseline translation_memory.json; this is the single clearest point where the Isaiah and Romans curricula must produce byte-for-byte-consistent theological vocabulary. |
| Isaiah 52:11 | ”Depart, be clean, touch no unclean thing” | — | Quoted: 2 Corinthians 6:17 | Medium. |
| Isaiah 52:13-15 | Fourth Servant Song opens: the Servant exalted after suffering | The Servant | Pattern parallels Philippians 2:6-11 (humiliation then exaltation); quoted in part Romans 15:21 (v.15, “those who have never heard will understand”) | Critical — direct lead-in to the core passage; opens the fourth Servant Song completed at 53:1-12. |
Chapter 53 — The Suffering Servant (Core Passage)

| Isaiah 54:1 | The barren woman’s many children | — | Quoted: Galatians 4:27 (applied allegorically to the heavenly Jerusalem/the church) | High. |
| Isaiah 54:9 | Covenant faithfulness compared to the Noahic oath | — | Alludes to Genesis 9:11 (the Noahic covenant never to flood the earth again) | Medium. |
| Isaiah 54:13 | ”All your children shall be taught by the LORD” | — | Quoted: John 6:45 | High. |
| Isaiah 55:1 | Free invitation: buy without price | — | Direct reinforcement of baseline অনুগ্রহ (grace)/works contrast, cf. Romans 4:4-5 | Critical — must preserve the free-gift/no-merit logic identical to the baseline grace-validation rule. |
| Isaiah 55:3 | Sure mercies of David; everlasting covenant | David (typologically) | Quoted: Acts 13:34 | High. |
| Isaiah 56:3-8 | Foreigners and eunuchs included; house of prayer for all nations | — | Quoted (v.7): Matthew 21:13, Mark 11:17, Luke 19:46 | Critical — direct triple-Gospel quotation; সমস্ত জাতির জন্য প্রার্থনার গৃহ must align across all three Synoptic occurrences if a Gospels curriculum exists. |
| Isaiah 57:15 | Contrite, crushed spirit welcomed by the Holy One | — | Deliberate internal echo of চূর্ণ (crushed) applied to the Servant, Isaiah 53:5,10 | High — must be flagged as an intentional intra-book cross-reference, not coincidental vocabulary reuse. |
| Isaiah 57:19 | Peace to those far and near | — | Quoted: Ephesians 2:17 (applied to Jew-Gentile reconciliation in Christ) | High — direct parallel to baseline doctrine unity_of_jews_and_gentiles. |
| Isaiah 58:6-7 | True fasting is justice, mercy, releasing the oppressed | — | Quoted in part: Luke 4:18 (as part of the composite Isaiah 61:1-2 quotation, Jubilee-release theme) | Medium. |
Chapter 59 — Sin Separates; the Redeemer Comes to Zion
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 59:7-8 | Violent, unjust ways of the wicked | — | Quoted as part of the composite catena: Romans 3:15-17 | Critical — Romans 3:10-18 is a composite chain-quotation drawing on multiple OT texts (Psalms, Isaiah); this verse’s Bengali rendering must slot consistently into that chain if the Romans-curriculum rendering of 3:15-17 is later revisited. |
| Isaiah 59:20-21 | The Redeemer/Deliverer will come to Zion; covenant to remove sin | The Redeemer (উদ্ধারকর্তা) | Quoted (combined with Isaiah 27:9): Romans 11:26-27 | Critical. উদ্ধারকর্তা (Redeemer) must match whatever term the Romans curriculum uses for “Deliverer” at Romans 11:26 — a direct textual overlap between the two curricula’s most theologically weighted chapters (Isaiah 53/59 and Romans 9-11). |
Chapters 60-62 — Zion’s Light; the Spirit’s Anointing; the Bridegroom
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 60:1-3 | Zion’s light draws the nations | — | Thematic root of baseline Salvation Extended to the Nations; echoed Matthew 2:1-12 (magi drawn by light/star) — typological, not direct quotation | High. |
| Isaiah 61:1-2 | The Spirit’s anointing; good news to the poor; the year of the LORD’s favor | The Servant/Messiah | Quoted verbatim and enacted: Luke 4:18-19 (Jesus reads this in the Nazareth synagogue and claims its fulfillment, Luke 4:21) | Critical — the most explicit self-claimed Messianic fulfillment text in the entire book. অভিষেক করা and সুসমাচার (reuse baseline exactly) must both be checked against Luke 4:18-19’s established Bengali rendering; সুসমাচার here is non-negotiable per baseline term lock. |
| Isaiah 61:10 | Bridal/priestly garments of righteousness and salvation | — | Thematic echo Revelation 19:7-8, 21:2 (the Bride adorned) | Medium. |
| Isaiah 62:5 | Bridegroom rejoices over the bride | The LORD (bridegroom); Zion (bride) | Echoed Ephesians 5:25-32, Revelation 19:7 | Medium. |
| Isaiah 62:11 | ”Behold, your salvation comes” | — | Combined with Zechariah 9:9 in Matthew 21:5 (triumphal entry) | High — composite OT quotation; verify consistency if a Gospels curriculum treats Matthew 21:5. |
Chapters 63-64 — Divine Vengeance; Grieving the Spirit; the Potter
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 63:1-6 | Treading the winepress of God’s wrath alone | The LORD (typologically Christ in final judgment) | Echoed: Revelation 14:19-20, 19:15 (Christ treading the winepress of God’s wrath) | Critical — a direct deity-of-Christ/final-judgment typological link; the imagery must be preserved for later recognition when a Revelation curriculum is produced. |
| Isaiah 63:10 | Grieving God’s Holy Spirit | The Holy Spirit | Quoted: Ephesians 4:30 | Critical — establishes the Spirit’s personhood; must reuse baseline পবিত্র আত্মা exactly. |
| Isaiah 63:16 | God as Father, Redeemer | God (as Father) | Reuses baseline পিতা and Isaiah’s own উদ্ধারকর্তা (Redeemer) | High (consistency). |
| Isaiah 64:4 | ”No eye has seen” what God has prepared | — | Quoted: 1 Corinthians 2:9 | Medium. |
| Isaiah 64:8 | Potter and clay: God’s sovereign shaping | — | Echoed Romans 9:21 | High — third occurrence of this image (29:16; 45:9; 64:8); render consistently. |
Chapters 65-66 — The New Heavens and New Earth
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaiah 65:1-2 | God found by those who did not seek him | — | Quoted: Romans 10:20-21 | Critical — direct Romans quotation, immediately following the ch.53:1/Romans 10:16 citation earlier in the same Romans chapter; Bengali renderings across Romans 10 quoting Isaiah 53:1, 52:7, and 65:1-2 should be internally reviewed together for stylistic and doctrinal consistency. |
| Isaiah 65:17 | New heavens and new earth (I) | — | Quoted/echoed: 2 Peter 3:13, Revelation 21:1 | Critical — নতুন আকাশ ও নতুন পৃথিবী must match any Revelation/2 Peter curriculum rendering exactly; see baseline-parallel guard against cyclical cosmology, 08_core_glossary.md #70. |
| Isaiah 65:25 | Wolf and lamb graze together | — | Echoes Isaiah 11:6-9; thematic parallel Revelation 21:4 (no more death/pain) | Low-Medium. |
| Isaiah 66:1-2 | Heaven is God’s throne; the earth his footstool | — | Quoted: Acts 7:49-50 (Stephen’s speech) | High. |
| Isaiah 66:22-23 | New heavens and new earth (II); all flesh worships | — | Echoes 65:17; parallels Revelation 21:1, 21:22-27 | Critical (consistency with 65:17). |
| Isaiah 66:24 | Unquenched fire, undying judgment | — | Echoed: Mark 9:48 | Medium. |
3. Rendering-Consistency Rules for Shared Quotations
The following rule set governs every case identified above where an Isaiah verse is directly quoted (not merely thematically echoed) in the New Testament, especially in Romans. These rules must be loaded alongside 12_ai_translation_requirements.md before Phase 2 translation of Isaiah begins.
| Rule | Statement |
|---|---|
| R1 | Where an Isaiah verse is directly quoted in Romans (Isaiah 1:9→Romans 9:29; 10:22-23→Romans 9:27-28; 11:10→Romans 15:12; 28:16→Romans 9:33/10:11; 29:10→Romans 11:8; 29:16/45:9/64:8→Romans 9:20-21; 40:13→Romans 11:34; 45:23→Romans 14:11; 52:5→Romans 2:24; 52:7→Romans 10:15; 53:1→Romans 10:16; 59:7-8→Romans 3:15-17; 59:20-21/27:9→Romans 11:26-27; 65:1-2→Romans 10:20-21), the Bengali rendering of the Isaiah verse in this curriculum MUST be produced in coordination with — and MUST NOT contradict — the rendering already fixed or to be fixed for the corresponding Romans verse. Where a Romans-curriculum rendering already exists, the Isaiah rendering defers to it. |
| R2 | Where an Isaiah verse is quoted in multiple Gospels (Isaiah 6:9-10; 40:3; 29:13; 56:7), the Bengali rendering must be produced with an eye to eventual consistency across all quoting Gospels, even though those curricula are out of scope for this Phase 1 pass; flag each such verse in the segment cache as “multi-Gospel-quoted” for future cross-curriculum harmonization. |
| R3 | Proper theological terms already fixed in the baseline translation_memory.json (সুসমাচার, অনুগ্রহ, বিশ্বাস, ধার্মিকতা, ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া, পরিত্রাণ, পবিত্র, প্রভু, ঈশ্বরের পুত্র, পুনরুত্থান, শান্তি, আরোপিত ধার্মিকতা, মধ্যস্থতা, ইস্রায়েল, ঈশ্বর, পবিত্র আত্মা) must be used identically whenever the underlying Hebrew concept surfaces in Isaiah and is later quoted using that exact baseline term in Romans. This applies with Critical force at Isaiah 52:7 (সুসমাচার), 53:1 (বিশ্বাস), 53:11 (ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য করা), 53:12 (মধ্যস্থতা). |
| R4 | New terms coined for Isaiah (সদাপ্রভু, দাস, উদ্ধারকর্তা, দোষার্থক বলি, অপরাধ, দোষ, বিদ্ধ, চূর্ণ, শাস্তি, ইম্মানুয়েল, কুমারী, পরাক্রমী ঈশ্বর, অনন্তকালীন পিতা, নতুন আকাশ ও নতুন পৃথিবী, অভিষিক্ত, অভিষেক করা) become part of the shared translation memory going forward. If a future NT-book curriculum (e.g., Matthew, Hebrews, Revelation) for this language pair quotes the corresponding Isaiah verse, that curriculum must load and reuse these terms exactly, not re-derive independent renderings. |
| R5 | For composite/catena quotations that fuse two or more OT texts into a single NT verse (Romans 3:10-18’s catena including Isaiah 59:7-8; Romans 11:26-27 fusing Isaiah 59:20-21 and 27:9; Matthew 21:5 fusing Isaiah 62:11 and Zechariah 9:9), each contributing OT verse must be rendered independently in its home-book curriculum in a way that remains recognizable when the composite NT verse is later assembled — avoid idiosyncratic paraphrase that would obscure the seam between the two source texts. |
| R6 | Where Isaiah 53’s technical atonement vocabulary (বিদ্ধ, চূর্ণ, দোষ, অপরাধ, বহন করা, দোষার্থক বলি) recurs in verses quoted individually across multiple NT books (v.4→Matthew 8:17; v.5-6→1 Peter 2:24-25; v.7-8→Acts 8:32-33; v.9→1 Peter 2:22; v.12→Mark 15:28/Luke 22:37/Hebrews 9:28), every one of these NT quotations, wherever later translated, must be checked against this Isaiah curriculum’s fixed vocabulary rather than independently re-derived — Isaiah 53 is the controlling source text for all of them. |
| R7 | The three-way distinction between অভিষিক্ত (Cyrus, Isaiah 45:1, non-Messianic), অভিষেক করা (the Servant/Messiah, Isaiah 61:1, fulfilled Luke 4:18-21), and খ্রীষ্ট (the fixed Messianic title reserved for Jesus, baseline) must be preserved without exception in every future curriculum quoting either Isaiah 45:1 or 61:1, since collapsing this distinction would create the false implication that Cyrus is “the Christ.” |
