Core Glossary

08 Core Glossary — 2 John

Per-Term Glossary with Translation Risk (English → Bengali)

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md, covering the entire book of 2 John (1:1–13). Terms marked [BASELINE REUSE] carry forward the Romans Language Package rendering exactly, per the hard rule that established renderings must never be altered. Terms marked [NEW TERM] are proposed for the first time in this curriculum and follow the same Critical/High/Medium/Low risk framework as the baseline bible_term_registry.json. All Critical and High risk new terms require human theologian review before Phase 2 use; Medium requires native speaker review; Low requires automated review only, consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json conventions.

B. New Terms Established for This Curriculum

English TermGreek (transliteration)Literal MeaningBengali RenderingTransliterationRiskDoctrine2 John ReferencesRationale / Rejected Alternatives
Truthἀλήθεια (alētheia)that which is unconcealed/realসত্যshotyoHighWalking in Truth and Love1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4Must be anchored as revealed, personal truth about Christ, not the impersonal Vedantic Sat (cosmic-metaphysical Truth) of Bengali Hindu philosophy. Requires translator note at first occurrence.
Love (verb)ἀγαπάω (agapaō)self-giving, deliberate loveভালোবাসাbhalobashaHighWalking in Truth and Love1:1, 1:5, 1:6Preferred over প্রেম for the verb to reduce Vaishnava prema-bhakti collision risk (see noun entry below).
Love (noun)ἀγάπη (agapē)self-giving loveপ্রেমpremHighWalking in Truth and Love1:3, 1:6Rejected as sole default: heavy collision with Gaudiya Vaishnava prema-bhakti devotional-romantic love theology (Radha-Krishna paradigm). Must always be qualified by context (church, mutual love) and paired with a translator note at first occurrence.
Commandmentἐντολή (entolē)directive, chargeআদেশadeshMedium-HighWalking in Truth and Love; Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ1:4, 1:5, 1:6Kept distinct from baseline ব্যবস্থা (νόμος, the Mosaic Law) to avoid conflating Christ’s/apostolic ethical charge with the Torah legal code.
Elderπρεσβύτερος (presbyteros)one advanced in age; church officeপ্রাচীনprachinMedium(Authorial authority; supports Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ)1:1Must read as an ecclesial office/title, not mere old age, and must not be read through a Hindu guru-authority lens.
Lady / Kyria (addressee)κυρία (kyria)lady, mistress; possible proper nameকুরিয়া (proper-name option) / মহীয়সী (title option)Kuriya / mohiyoshiMedium(Addressee identity; affects interpretive frame of whole letter)1:1, 1:5Interpretive choice (individual vs. personified congregation) with consequences for how hospitality/discernment instructions are applied communally; flagged for consistent handling.
Elect / Chosenἐκλεκτός (eklektos)selected, chosenমনোনীতmonōnītoHigh(Ties to baseline Election doctrine)1:1, 1:13Built on baseline root ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন (election, High risk); must convey sovereign divine choice, never karma-determined fate (ভাগ্য/নিয়তি/কর্মফল, already rejected in baseline).
Childrenτέκνον (teknon)offspring; spiritual childrenসন্তানsontanLowWalking in Truth and Love1:1, 1:4, 1:13Standard, low-risk term; context (biological vs. spiritual) must be clear.
Walk (conduct one’s life)περιπατέω (peripateō)to walk; to live/conduct oneselfচলা (সত্যে চলা)cholaMediumWalking in Truth and Love1:4, 1:6Idiomatic “walk” for lived conduct; must stay anchored to ἀλήθεια/Christ, not read as a generic dharma-path idiom.
Deceiverπλάνος (planos)wanderer; impostor, false teacherপ্রতারকprotarokHighWarning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation1:7Rejected: ভণ্ড (hypocrite — wrong emphasis, outward/inward inconsistency rather than doctrinal falsehood).
Worldκόσμος (kosmos)ordered universe; humanity; fallen orderজগৎjagatMediumWarning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation1:7Rejected: সংসার (carries Hindu domestic/worldly-cycle connotations, not intended here).
Confessὁμολογέω (homologeō)to say the same; to publicly acknowledgeস্বীকার করাshikar koraHighWarning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation1:7Same doctrinal weight-class as the baseline’s Romans 10:9 confession language; the content confessed here (the incarnation) is equally Critical/High.
Flesh (of the incarnation)σάρξ (sarx)physical body/substanceমাংসmangshoCriticalWarning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation1:7Concrete physical anchor-word for the same doctrine as the baseline’s দেহধারণ (incarnation, Critical). Must never be softened to a symbolic/spiritual-only coming; never associate with অবতার (rejected in baseline).
Antichristἀντίχριστος (antichristos)against/opposing Christখ্রীষ্টশত্রু (or transliterated আন্তিখ্রীষ্ট)Khrishtoshotru / AntikhrishtoCriticalWarning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation1:7Directly tied to Critical baseline doctrines (incarnation, deity of Christ). Final term choice (descriptive compound vs. transliteration) requires theologian sign-off, then fixed for consistency.
Watch out / take heedβλέπω (blepō), imperativeto see; be vigilantসতর্ক থাকাsotorko thakaMediumHospitality and Doctrinal Discernment1:8Standard vigilance vocabulary; must retain command urgency.
Rewardμισθός (misthos)wage; reward for labor/ministryপুরস্কারpuroshkarHighPerseverance in the Teaching of Christ1:8Risk from proximity to the grace-vs-merit boundary (Critical in baseline); every occurrence needs a note that this is a ministry-perseverance reward, not the ground of salvation, to avoid karma-merit or weighed-deeds misreadings.
Go ahead / transgress (doctrinal overreach)προάγω (proagō)to go before/ahead; overstepসীমা অতিক্রম করাsima otikrom koraHighPerseverance in the Teaching of Christ1:9Textually/theologically significant choice between “transgress” and “goes ahead [of sound teaching]”; must convey false claims to advanced/progressive revelation beyond Christ’s teaching. Translator note required recording both candidate renderings.
Abide / remainμένω (menō)to stay, remain, abideস্থির থাকাsthir thakaHighPerseverance in the Teaching of Christ1:2, 1:9Major Johannine theological term (cf. John 15); must use a weighty, consistent verb, not generic থাকা.
Teaching / doctrine (of Christ)διδαχή (didachē)instruction; body of doctrineশিক্ষা (খ্রীষ্টের শিক্ষা)shiksha (Khrishter shiksha)HighPerseverance in the Teaching of Christ1:9, 1:10Must always be qualified as “the teaching of Christ” to avoid a generic school-curriculum reading.
Receive into (one’s) houseλαμβάνω εἰς οἰκίαν (lambanō eis oikian)to take/welcome into the householdগৃহে গ্রহণ করাgrihe grohon koraHighHospitality and Doctrinal Discernment1:10Collides with strong Bengali cultural hospitality norms (আতিথেয়তা) in both Hindu- and Muslim-majority contexts; must be framed as a narrow, doctrine-specific refusal, not general inhospitality — otherwise risks contradicting the wider biblical hospitality ethic.
Say “Greetings” (endorsement greeting formula)χαίρειν λέγειν (chairein legein)to say “Rejoice!”/“Hail!” as a formal greetingশুভেচ্ছা জ্ঞাপন করাshubhessha gyapon koraHighHospitality and Doctrinal Discernment1:10, 1:11Bengali greeting culture is religiously coded (নমস্কার = Hindu-associated; আসসালামু আলাইকুম = Muslim); শুভেচ্ছা chosen as the religiously neutral option. Requires a note clarifying this greeting functions as public doctrinal endorsement, not casual courtesy.
Share in / partake of (negative: complicity)κοινωνέω (koinōneō)to share, participateসহভাগী হওয়া (মন্দ কাজে সহভাগী হওয়া)shohobhagi howaMedium-HighHospitality and Doctrinal Discernment1:11Same root as the baseline’s positive সহভাগিতা (fellowship, Low risk); here used negatively for moral complicity — fixed collocation with “মন্দ কাজে” required to prevent a positive-fellowship misreading.
Evil deeds / worksἔργα πονηρά (erga ponēra)wicked/corrupt deedsমন্দ কাজmondo kajLow-MediumHospitality and Doctrinal Discernment1:11Standard vocabulary; must not be confused with the neutral/positive “works” category already carefully guarded in the Romans grace-works discussion.
Mercyἔλεος (eleos)compassion toward the needy/sufferingদয়াdoyaMedium(Part of the χάρις-ἔλεος-εἰρήνη greeting triad)1:3Rejected: করুণা (the technical Buddhist compassion term). দয়া is the established, religiously neutral Bengali-Christian term.
Eternity / foreverαἰών (aiōn)age, era; unending durationঅনন্তকালanontokalMediumWalking in Truth and Love1:2Rejected: যুগ (heavily associated with Hindu cyclical cosmological ages — Satya/Kali Yuga); অনন্তকাল avoids the cyclical-time association.

D. Notes for Phase 2 Translation Memory Update

  1. All terms in Section A must be loaded from the existing Romans translation_memory.json without modification before any 2 John segment is processed.
  2. All terms in Section B are new entries that must be added to an updated translation_memory.json (version increment required) before Phase 2 segment translation of 2 John begins, following the same JSON schema fields used in the baseline (translation, transliteration, doctrine_risk, doctrine, alternatives_rejected, notes).
  3. Where two candidate renderings are noted (e.g., ἀντίχριστος: খ্রীষ্টশত্রু vs. আন্তিখ্রীষ্ট; προάγω: two candidate glosses), a theologian decision is required to fix a single rendering before Phase 2 begins; the decision must then be applied with the same absolute consistency the baseline requires for Critical/High terms.
  4. The negative use of κοινωνέω (1:11) must be entered as a distinct sense/entry from the baseline’s positive κοινωνία (fellowship) to prevent Phase 2 automated enforcement from defaulting to the warm, positive baseline connotation in a verse describing moral complicity.

This glossary extends, and does not contradict, the Romans baseline translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json. See 07_semantic_analysis.md for full verse-level argumentation supporting each entry.

Critical Risk Terms

Antichrist

Approved rendering: খ্রীষ্টশত্রু
Transliteration: Khrishtoshotru
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Original: ἀντίχριστος
Category: Christology

CRITICAL: no Bengali Christian consensus term exists prior to this curriculum (absent from the Romans baseline). খ্রীষ্টশত্রু (“Christ’s enemy”) is fixed as the PRIMARY rendering for running text because it is transparent to a Class 8-10 reader with no prior Greek/loanword exposure. আন্তিখ্রীষ্ট (transliteration) is RETAINED ONLY as a documented footnote/cross-reference alternative for consistency with international/ecumenical usage and other Johannine Letters (1 John, Revelation) in future curricula — it must never silently replace খ্রীষ্টশত্রু in body text without a fresh theologian decision applied identically curriculum-wide. 2 John 1:7.

Christ

Approved rendering: খ্রীষ্ট
Transliteration: Khrishto
Doctrine: Sonship and Deity of Christ / Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: মশীহ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 2 John 1:3, 1:7, 1:9.

Father

Approved rendering: পিতা
Transliteration: Pita
Doctrine: Sonship and Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ব্রহ্মা, সৃষ্টিকর্তা
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 2 John 1:3, 1:4, 1:9. Note: 2 John’s own Greek text does not use the Aramaic আব্বা; do not reintroduce it here.

Flesh Incarnation

Approved rendering: মাংস
Transliteration: mangsho
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: অবতার, আত্মিক আগমন (a merely symbolic/spiritual-only coming)
Original: σάρξ (ἐρχόμενον ἐν σαρκί)
Category: Christology

CRITICAL: functions as the concrete, physical anchor-word for the same doctrine as the baseline’s দেহধারণ (incarnation, Critical). Must never be softened to a symbolic/spiritual-only coming and must never be associated with অবতার. Never use মাংস in isolation — fix the full clause “যীশু খ্রীষ্ট মাংসে আগমন করিয়াছেন” (“Jesus Christ has come in the flesh”) as a set doctrinal formula, reused identically at every occurrence. 2 John 1:7.

God

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বর
Transliteration: Ishshor
Doctrine: Deity of Christ / Grace, Mercy, and Peace from God
Rejected alternatives: ভগবান, আল্লাহ
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 2 John 1:3 (“from God the Father”), 1:9 (“does not have God”).

Jesus

Approved rendering: যীশু
Transliteration: Jishu
Doctrine: Sonship and Deity of Christ / Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: ঈসা
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 2 John 1:3, 1:7. Never ঈসা, even though Muslim-idiom contextualized Bengali editions of this letter use it; mainstream Islamic theology’s denial of the crucifixion is in direct tension with what 2 John 1:7 defends.

Son Of God

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বরের পুত্র
Transliteration: Ishshorer Putro
Doctrine: Sonship and Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: দেবপুত্র, ঈশ্বরের অংশ
Original: υἱός (τοῦ πατρός)
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. In 2 John 1:3 (“Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father”) and 1:9 (“has both the Father and the Son”) the bare noun পুত্র may be used once ঈশ্বরের পুত্র or তাঁর পুত্র has been established in context, but the full phrase’s doctrinal content (eternal, co-equal, non-biological Sonship) must always be preserved. Must be read together with, not as competing with, the মাংস/দেহধারণ incarnation terms below.

High Risk Terms

Abide Remain

Approved rendering: স্থির থাকা
Transliteration: sthir thaka
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Rejected alternatives: থাকা (generic ‘to stay’ — too weak, loses the Johannine persevering-relationship weight, cf. John 15)
Original: μένω
Category: Faith

Major Johannine theological term; must use this weighty, consistent compound verb at every occurrence, not generic থাকা. 2 John 1:2, 1:9.

Confess

Approved rendering: স্বীকার করা
Transliteration: shikar kora
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Original: ὁμολογέω
Category: Christology

Same conceptual family and doctrinal weight-class as the baseline’s Romans 10:9 confession language (যীশু প্রভু, Critical). Must convey public, verbal acknowledgment, not private assent alone; the content confessed here (Christ’s incarnation) is equally doctrinally decisive. 2 John 1:7.

Deceiver

Approved rendering: প্রতারক
Transliteration: protarok
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: ভণ্ড (hypocrite — wrong emphasis: outward/inward inconsistency rather than doctrinal falsehood)
Original: πλάνος
Category: Doctrine

Conveys active deception/fraud, an itinerant propagator of a false Christology, not a merely mistaken teacher. 2 John 1:7.

Elect Chosen

Approved rendering: মনোনীত
Transliteration: monōnīto
Doctrine: Divine Election of God’s People
Rejected alternatives: ভাগ্য, নিয়তি, কর্মফল
Original: ἐκλεκτός
Category: Salvation

Built on the baseline root ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন (election, High risk in Romans). Must convey God’s sovereign, personal choice, never karma-determined fate. Applied to the addressee (“the elect lady,” 1:1) and her “elect sister” (1:13). 2 John 1:1, 1:13.

Election

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন
Transliteration: Ishshorer monownoyon
Doctrine: Divine Election of God’s People
Rejected alternatives: ভাগ্য, নিয়তি, কর্মফল

Inherited from Romans package. Doctrinal root underlying the new adjectival term elect_chosen (মনোনীত) below, applied in 2 John to the addressee (“the elect lady,” 1:1) and her “elect sister” (1:13).

Go Ahead Transgress

Approved rendering: সীমা অতিক্রম করা
Transliteration: sima otikrom kora
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Rejected alternatives: এগিয়ে যাওয়া (neutral ‘moving forward/progress’ — misses the doctrinal-overreach warning), অপরাধ করা (generic ‘commit a transgression/sin’ — misses the false claim to advanced revelation)
Original: προάγω
Category: Doctrine

Must convey a false claim to doctrinal advancement beyond Christ’s received apostolic teaching (the ESV/NIV ‘goes on ahead’ sense), not a neutral ‘moves forward’ nor an unrelated generic sin (the KJV ‘transgresseth’ sense read narrowly). Mandatory translator note recording both candidate English glosses required before Phase 2 use. 2 John 1:9.

Grace

Approved rendering: অনুগ্রহ
Transliteration: anugroho
Doctrine: Grace, Mercy, and Peace from God
Rejected alternatives: কৃপা, পুণ্য, ভাগ্য
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 2 John 1:3, part of the triadic greeting (grace, mercy, peace).

Love Noun

Approved rendering: প্রেম
Transliteration: prem
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Love

প্রেম is the central term of Bengali Gaudiya Vaishnava (Chaitanya) devotional theology (prema-bhakti, the Radha-Krishna paradigm) — a structurally different, ecstatic romantic-devotional love, not self-giving covenantal ἀγάπη. Must always be qualified contextually (church love, mutual love among believers) and paired with a translator note at first occurrence (1:3) distinguishing it from prema-bhakti. 2 John 1:3, 1:6.

Love Verb

Approved rendering: ভালোবাসা
Transliteration: bhalobasha
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Rejected alternatives: প্রেম (as default verb form)
Original: ἀγαπάω
Category: Love

Preferred over প্রেম for the verb ἀγαπάω to reduce collision with Gaudiya Vaishnava prema-bhakti devotional-romantic theology. Always keep the object explicit (“one another,” “in truth”). 2 John 1:1, 1:5.

Receive Into House

Approved rendering: গৃহে গ্রহণ করা
Transliteration: grihe grohon kora
Doctrine: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Rejected alternatives: সতর্কতার সাথে গ্রহণ করো (softened ‘receive with caution’ — reverses the force of the imperative)
Original: λαμβάνω εἰς οἰκίαν
Category: Church

Collides with আতিথেয়তা (hospitality), one of the strongest shared social-honor values across Hindu-majority West Bengal and Muslim-majority Bangladesh. Must be framed as a narrow, doctrine-specific refusal (denying a teacher who rejects Christ’s incarnation), never a general license for inhospitality, which would contradict the wider biblical hospitality ethic (cf. Romans 12:13, Hebrews 13:2). Retain full imperative force; do not soften. 2 John 1:10.

Reward

Approved rendering: পুরস্কার
Transliteration: puroshkar
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Original: μισθός
Category: Eschatology

Sits directly on the grace-vs-merit boundary already Critical in the Romans baseline. Every occurrence requires a contextual note clarifying this is a ministry/perseverance reward, not the ground of salvation, to prevent a Hindu karma-merit or Islamic weighed-deeds misreading. 2 John 1:8.

Say Greetings Endorsement

Approved rendering: শুভেচ্ছা জ্ঞাপন করা
Transliteration: shubhessha gyapon kora
Doctrine: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Rejected alternatives: নমস্কার (Hindu-coded greeting register), আসসালামু আলাইকুম (Muslim-coded greeting register)
Original: χαίρειν λέγειν
Category: Church

Bengali greeting vocabulary is religiously coded at the everyday-word level. শুভেচ্ছা is the religiously neutral option, fixed as a technical phrase meaning formal public doctrinal endorsement, not ordinary daily courtesy. Mandatory translator note at first occurrence (1:10) clarifying this function. Must be kept lexically distinct from greet_closing (1:13) below. 2 John 1:10, 1:11.

Teaching Of Christ

Approved rendering: শিক্ষা
Transliteration: shiksha
Doctrine: Perseverance in the Teaching of Christ
Original: διδαχή (τοῦ Χριστοῦ)
Category: Doctrine

Always qualify as খ্রীষ্টের শিক্ষা (“the teaching of Christ”); শিক্ষা alone commonly denotes ordinary secular/school education in Bengali and must never be left bare in doctrinally load-bearing clauses. 2 John 1:9, 1:10.

Truth

Approved rendering: সত্য
Transliteration: shotyo
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Faith

No viable Bengali alternative exists. সত্য functions in Bengali Vedantic/Hindu philosophical usage as one leg of the Sat-Chit-Ananda triad and as an impersonal cosmic-metaphysical absolute (cf. popular civic usage “সত্যমেব জয়তে”). Every occurrence in 2 John must be anchored to the revealed, personal truth of Christ’s apostolic teaching, not left open to a cosmic-principle reading. Mandatory translator note required at first occurrence (1:1). 2 John 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4.

Medium Risk Terms

Elder

Approved rendering: প্রাচীন
Transliteration: prachin
Doctrine: Apostolic and Ecclesial Authority
Original: πρεσβύτερος
Category: Church

Must be anchored explicitly as a recognized church office/title transmitting apostolic teaching, not merely advanced age, and not read through a Hindu guru-authority (personal spiritual attainment) or imam/pir-authority lens. 2 John 1:1.

Eternity

Approved rendering: অনন্তকাল
Transliteration: anontokal
Doctrine: The Eternal, Abiding Nature of Truth
Rejected alternatives: যুগ (heavily associated with Hindu cyclical cosmological ages — Satya Yuga, Kali Yuga)
Original: αἰών (εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα)
Category: Eschatology

Must convey unending, linear duration, not a bounded or recurring era. 2 John 1:2.

Lady Kyria

Approved rendering: কুরিয়া
Transliteration: Kuriya
Doctrine: Identity and Corporate Application of the Addressee
Rejected alternatives: প্রিয় বোন (dear sister — premature resolution toward individual reading), মণ্ডলী (church — premature resolution toward congregation reading)
Original: κυρία
Category: Church

Transliterated as a probable proper name to preserve the Greek’s genuine ambiguity (individual householder vs. personified congregation) rather than resolving it silently through word choice. মহীয়সী (“esteemed lady”) is retained ONLY as an interpretive gloss for teaching notes explaining the congregation-reading option, never as the primary running-text rendering unless a theologian fixes that decision. 2 John 1:1, 1:5.

Mercy

Approved rendering: দয়া
Transliteration: doya
Doctrine: Grace, Mercy, and Peace from God
Rejected alternatives: করুণা (the technical term for the cardinal Buddhist virtue of compassion, central to Avalokiteśvara/Karuna iconography with cultural presence in Bengal)
Original: ἔλεος
Category: God

দয়া is the established, religiously neutral Bengali-Christian rendering for divine mercy shown toward those in need or distress, part of the triadic greeting (grace, mercy, peace). 2 John 1:3.

Peace

Approved rendering: শান্তি
Transliteration: shanti
Doctrine: Grace, Mercy, and Peace from God
Rejected alternatives: সুখ, স্বস্তি
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package, unchanged. 2 John 1:3, closing member of the greeting triad.

Walk Conduct

Approved rendering: চলা
Transliteration: chola
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Rejected alternatives: ধর্মপথে চলা (generic ‘walking the path of dharma’ idiom)
Original: περιπατέω
Category: Ethics

Fix the collocation সত্যে চলা (“walking in the truth”) and reuse identically at every occurrence so the idiom stays anchored to Christ’s revealed truth, not a generic moral-path idiom. 2 John 1:4, 1:6.

Watch Out

Approved rendering: সতর্ক থাকা
Transliteration: sotorko thaka
Doctrine: Hospitality and Doctrinal Discernment
Original: βλέπω
Category: Ethics

Retain imperative mood; do not soften into general advice. 2 John 1:8.

World Kosmos

Approved rendering: জগৎ
Transliteration: jagat
Doctrine: Warning against Deceivers Denying the Incarnation
Rejected alternatives: সংসার (carries Hindu domestic/worldly-cycle, samsaric connotations)
Original: κόσμος
Category: Cosmology

Standard, safer Bengali Bible term for κόσμος; denotes the wider fallen human order into which deceivers have spread. 2 John 1:7.

Low Risk Terms

Children Teknon

Approved rendering: সন্তান
Transliteration: sontan
Doctrine: Walking in Truth and Love
Original: τέκνον
Category: Church

Standard, neutral Bengali term for offspring, biological or spiritual. Context must clarify literal vs. spiritual sense. 2 John 1:1, 1:4, 1:13.

Fellowship

Approved rendering: সহভাগিতা
Transliteration: shohobhagita
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship and Joy in Truth
Rejected alternatives: বন্ধুত্ব
Original: κοινωνία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Root term for the POSITIVE sense of shared participation in Christ and the church. In 2 John this root also generates a NEGATIVE-sense compound in 1:11 (moral complicity, not warm fellowship) — see share_in_evil below; the two senses must never be merged or defaulted to one another.

Greet Closing

Approved rendering: শুভেচ্ছা জানানো
Transliteration: shubhessha janano
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship and Joy in Truth
Original: ἀσπάζομαι
Category: Church

Ordinary epistolary closing-greeting formula. Must be kept lexically distinct from say_greetings_endorsement (শুভেচ্ছা জ্ঞাপন করা), the fixed doctrinal-endorsement phrase used at 1:10-11, so the two are never conflated. 2 John 1:13.

Joy

Approved rendering: আনন্দ
Transliteration: anondo
Doctrine: Christian Fellowship and Joy in Truth
Original: χαρά
Category: Church

Standard, safe Bengali term for the elder’s anticipated joy at face-to-face fellowship. 2 John 1:12.
