Doctrine Analysis
11 — Doctrine Analysis: 2 Timothy (Full-Book Coverage)
Purpose
This document provides the full doctrine matrix for 2 Timothy 1–4, mapping every chapter and major section of the letter to the doctrine set carried forward in doctrine_risk_registry.json. It exists to drive Phase 2 review routing and to confirm that no chapter, paragraph, or doctrinally significant clause of 2 Timothy has been silently skipped. Risk tiers, doctrine names, and Bengali risk notes below are held identical to doctrine_risk_registry.json; this document adds the chapter-by-chapter scope confirmation the registry does not itself provide.
Section A: Full Doctrine Matrix
| # | Doctrine | Bengali Doctrine Name | Supporting Passages (2 Timothy) | Risk | Translation Risk (Bengali-specific) | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture | শাস্ত্রের ঈশ্বর-প্রেরণা ও পর্যাপ্ততা | 1:13; 3:14-15; 3:16-17 | Critical | শাস্ত্র/ধর্মগ্রন্থ flattens Scripture into a generic label shared with Hindu shastras/Puranas and the Qur’an; অনুপ্রাণিত alone under-translates θεόπνευστος into subjective poetic “inspiration.” Must use পবিত্রশাস্ত্র and ঈশ্বর-নিঃশ্বাসিত with zero drift. | Human theologian |
| 2 | The Charge to Preach the Word | বচন প্রচারের আদেশ | 4:1-2; 4:5 | Critical | Sworn, judicial framing (διαμαρτύρομαι before God and Christ the judge) must not be softened into casual pastoral advice; বচন প্রচার কর must render identically every occurrence. | Human theologian |
| 3 | Perseverance under Suffering | দুঃখভোগে স্থিরতা | 1:8; 1:12; 2:3; 2:10-12; 3:11-12; 4:5; 4:16-17 | High | Honor/shame vocabulary (লজ্জিত হওয়া) carries real communal-identity stakes in both Hindu and Muslim Bengali contexts; 3:12’s universal claim must not be softened to an exceptional case. | Human theologian |
| 4 | Guarding Sound Doctrine | সুস্থ শিক্ষা রক্ষা | 1:13-14; 2:2; 2:14-19; 3:14; 4:3 | High | ধর্মমত collides with ধর্ম’s dual Hindu-dharma/generic-religion sense; সুস্থ শিক্ষা preserves the health metaphor and must stay consistent with সুস্থ বচন. | Human theologian |
| 5 | Faithful Transmission of the Gospel | সুসমাচারের বিশ্বস্ত হস্তান্তর | 1:6; 1:12-14; 2:2; 2:9 | High | আমানত imports a specific Islamic ethical-trust frame; গচ্ছিত ধন required. বিশ্বস্ত মানুষ (trustworthy) must not collapse into বিশ্বাসী (believing). | Human theologian |
| 6 | Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days | শেষ কালের ধর্মভ্রষ্টতা ও ভ্রান্ত শিক্ষক | 2:16-19; 2:25-26; 3:1-9; 3:13; 4:3-4; 4:10 | High | শেষ কালে must read as the present, inaugurated church age, not only a remote future crisis; ভক্তি (3:5) risks a Hindu bhakti-devotionalism misreading if the divine referent is not anchored; কল্পকথা must stay generic, avoiding পুরাণ-genre naming. | Human theologian |
| 7 | Assurance of Reward | পুরস্কারের নিশ্চয়তা | 2:11-13; 2:19; 4:6-8; 4:18 | High | ধার্মিকতার মুকুট reuses the baseline’s Critical forensic-justification term; requires a teaching note distinguishing eschatological reward-for-perseverance from justification by faith alone. উৎসর্গরূপে ঢেলে দেওয়া must anchor to OT drink-offering imagery, not Hindu tarpan. | Human theologian |
| 8 | Grace | অনুগ্রহ | 1:2; 1:9; 2:1; 4:22 | High | Reused baseline Critical forbidden-substitution term (never পুণ্য/ভাগ্য/কৃপা). 1:9’s grace-vs-works antithesis requires কাজ, not কর্ম (karma-merit risk). | Human theologian |
| 9 | Faith | বিশ্বাস | 1:5; 1:13; 3:14-15; 4:7 | High | Must retain personal trust in Christ specifically; distinct from ঈমান (Islamic tawhid-submission) and শ্রদ্ধা (Hindu devotional reverence). Timothy’s inherited faith must not read as mere family religious custom. | Human theologian |
| 10 | Salvation | পরিত্রাণ | 1:9; 2:10; 3:15; 4:18 | Critical | Reused baseline forbidden-substitution term (never মুক্তি/মোক্ষ/নাজাত). 3:15’s “wisdom for salvation” risks a jñāna/Vedantic-enlightenment misreading if জ্ঞানবান করা is left unanchored. | Human theologian |
| 11 | Resurrection of Christ | খ্রীষ্টের পুনরুত্থান | 2:8; 2:18 | Critical | Reused baseline term পুনরুত্থান, never পুনর্জন্ম. 2:18 names a concrete heresy (resurrection “already happened”) that must be explicitly flagged as false teaching, not presented neutrally. | Human theologian |
| 12 | Effectual Calling and Election | কার্যকর আহ্বান ও মনোনয়ন | 1:9; 2:10 | High | God’s sovereign summons/choice (আহুত/আহ্বান, মনোনীত) must not read as karma-determined destiny (ভাগ্য/নিয়তি/কর্মফল). | Human theologian |
| 13 | Sanctification | পবিত্রীকরণ | 1:9; 2:21 | High | 2:21’s vessel-cleansing metaphor risks a শুচি-style ritual-purity misreading; নিজেকে শুদ্ধ করা required over any ceremonial-cleanliness term. | Human theologian |
| 14 | Power of God | ঈশ্বরের সামর্থ্য | 1:7-8; 2:1; 3:5; 4:17 | High | Reused baseline forbidden-substitution term (never শক্তি, given Bengal’s Shakta-Hindu heartland status); recurs repeatedly across the empowerment-in-suffering passages, not only in the core passage. | Human theologian |
| 15 | Lordship of Christ | খ্রীষ্টের প্রভুত্ব | 1:2; 1:8; 2:19; 4:8; 4:17-18; 4:22 | Critical | প্রভু must convey exclusive, supreme Lordship throughout; the closing benediction (4:22) is a fixed formula requiring cross-document consistency. | Human theologian |
| 16 | Glory of God | ঈশ্বরের মহিমা | 2:10; 4:18 | High | Reused baseline term মহিমা, never তেজ (Hindu divine-light/deity-aura risk). | Human theologian |
| 17 | Honor and Shame in Gospel Witness | সুসমাচারের সাক্ষ্যে সম্মান ও লজ্জা | 1:8; 1:12; 1:16 | High | New book-specific doctrine. লজ্জিত হওয়া must retain genuine social stakes (public association with an imprisoned/persecuted teacher), not flatten to private embarrassment. | Human theologian |
| 18 | Godliness and Devotion | ঈশ্বরভক্তি | 3:5; 3:12 | High | New book-specific doctrine. ভক্তি carries strong Hindu bhakti-devotionalism association; every occurrence requires the devotion’s object anchored as the God of Scripture, since 3:5 warns specifically against a godliness-form with no true power/referent behind it. | Human theologian |
| 19 | Repentance and Restoration | মন-পরিবর্তন ও পুনরুদ্ধার | 2:25-26 | High | New book-specific doctrine. মন-পরিবর্তন must convey a God-granted decisive reorientation, not mere reconsideration; সত্যের জ্ঞান risks jñāna/Vedantic-enlightenment misreading if unanchored. | Human theologian |
| 20 | God’s Faithfulness amid Human Faithlessness | মানুষের অবিশ্বস্ততার মধ্যেও ঈশ্বরের বিশ্বস্ততা | 2:11-13; 2:19 | High | New book-specific doctrine, distinct from Assurance of Reward. Must be distinguished from the Islamic view that final standing cannot be known with certainty before death, and from a karmic earned-outcome framework. | Human theologian |
| 21 | Kingdom of God / Heavenly Kingdom | ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য / স্বর্গীয় রাজ্য | 4:1; 4:18 | Medium | Reused baseline convention ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য (স্বর্গীয় রাজ্য at 4:18 for Christ’s specific kingdom); must not read as political/territorial in a religiously plural nation-state context. | Native speaker review |
| 22 | Vocational Metaphors for Ministry | সেবাকাজের পেশাগত রূপক | 2:3-6; 2:15 | Medium | New supporting doctrine. সৈনিক/প্রতিযোগী/কৃষক are culturally transparent; review needed only to ensure the athlete’s rule-keeping is not misread as works-based merit accounting. | Native speaker review |
| 23 | Faithful Transmission Teaching Chain | শিক্ষার বিশ্বস্ত ধারা | 2:2 | Medium | New supporting doctrine, structurally distinct from “entrusted deposit.” The multi-link chain (Paul → Timothy → trustworthy others → still others) must be preserved as a chain, not collapsed to a single hand-off. | Native speaker review |
| 24 | Vice List of the Last Days | শেষ কালের দোষের তালিকা | 3:2-4 | Medium | New supporting doctrine. The eighteen-term catalogue must read as a coherent moral portrait; the climactic φιλόθεος contrast must clearly presume ঈশ্বর as sole legitimate object of ultimate love. | Native speaker review |
| 25 | Sacrificial Offering of Life | জীবনের উৎসর্গ | 4:6 | Medium | New supporting doctrine, tied to Assurance of Reward. উৎসর্গরূপে ঢেলে দেওয়া must anchor to OT drink-offering imagery (Numbers 28), not Hindu tarpan; may need a translator note. | Native speaker review |
| 26 | Thanksgiving and Remembrance | ধন্যবাদ ও স্মরণ | 1:3-5 | Low | Reused baseline term ধন্যবাদ. Standard vocabulary; minor over-ritualization risk only. | Automated review |
| 27 | Greetings and Benediction Formulas | শুভেচ্ছা ও আশীর্বাদসূচক বাক্য | 1:2; 4:9-21; 4:22 | Low | Proper names carry no independent theological content; render in established Bengali Bible transliterations. Doctrinally load-bearing components (grace, mercy, peace; the Lord) are governed separately under their own Critical/High entries. | Automated review |
Section B: Chapter-by-Chapter Doctrinal Coverage
2 Timothy 1 (1:1-18)
Active doctrines: Greetings and Benediction Formulas (1:2); Thanksgiving and Remembrance (1:3-5); Faith (1:5); Faithful Transmission of the Gospel — laying on of hands (1:6); Power of God (1:7-8); Effectual Calling and Election, Salvation, Grace, Sanctification — the compressed “saved and called” statement (1:9); Resurrection of Christ pre-echo / Christ’s appearing, Salvation (1:10); Guarding Sound Doctrine — “sound words,” “pattern” (1:13); Faithful Transmission of the Gospel — “the good deposit,” Holy Spirit (1:12-14); Honor and Shame in Gospel Witness (1:8, 1:12, 1:16); Perseverance under Suffering (1:8, 1:12).
Chapter note: 1:15-18 (Phygelus, Hermogenes, Onesiphorus) is reviewed explicitly — it functions as a concrete narrative illustration of Honor and Shame in Gospel Witness (contrast of those who turned away vs. Onesiphorus who was “not ashamed” and sought Paul out) and introduces no additional doctrinal terms beyond what is already tracked under that doctrine and Greetings/Benediction Formulas for the proper names.
2 Timothy 2 (2:1-26)
Active doctrines: Grace, Power of God (2:1); Faithful Transmission Teaching Chain, Faithful Transmission of the Gospel (2:2); Vocational Metaphors for Ministry — soldier, athlete, farmer (2:3-6); Resurrection of Christ, Davidic Covenant cross-reference (2:8); Faithful Transmission of the Gospel — “word of God is not bound” (2:9); Perseverance under Suffering, Effectual Calling and Election, Glory of God (2:10); God’s Faithfulness amid Human Faithlessness — the “faithful saying” quatrain (2:11-13); Guarding Sound Doctrine — quarreling about words, rightly handling the word of truth (2:14-15); Vocational Metaphors for Ministry — “worker approved” (2:15); Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days — Hymenaeus and Philetus, Resurrection of Christ heresy flag (2:16-19); God’s Faithfulness amid Human Faithlessness — “God’s foundation stands firm,” Lordship of Christ (2:19); Sanctification — vessels of honor/dishonor, cleanse oneself (2:20-21); Faith (2:22); Repentance and Restoration, Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days (2:23-26).
Chapter note: every verse in chapter 2 carries load-bearing doctrinal content; no subsection is doctrine-neutral.
2 Timothy 3 (3:1-17)
Active doctrines: Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days — “last days,” difficult times (3:1); Vice List of the Last Days (3:2-4); Godliness and Devotion — “form of godliness” (3:5); Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days — deceivers, “weak women,” Jannes-and-Jambres-type opposition (3:6-9, 3:13); Perseverance under Suffering — Paul’s own persecutions as example, universal persecution claim (3:10-12); Godliness and Devotion (3:12); Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture — Timothy’s Scripture-formed upbringing, sacred writings, wisdom for salvation, God-breathed, profitable for teaching/reproof/correction/training, the “man/servant of God” equipped (3:14-17); Salvation, Faith, Righteousness cross-reference (3:15-16).
Chapter note: 3:6-9 (deceivers who “creep into households,” “weak women burdened with sins,” Jannes and Jambres) is explicitly reviewed as part of Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days; it introduces no new Critical/High glossary term beyond what the core doctrine already covers, but is flagged for native-speaker sensitivity given the passage’s gendered language, which must not be rendered in a way that reads as a blanket denigration of women in the Bengali cultural context.
2 Timothy 4 (4:1-22)
Active doctrines: The Charge to Preach the Word — solemn charge, judgment of living and dead, kingdom, preach the word, in season/out of season, reprove/rebuke/exhort, sound doctrine, itching ears, myths (4:1-4); Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days (4:3-4); Perseverance under Suffering — “endure suffering,” fulfill your ministry (4:5); Sacrificial Offering of Life — poured out, time of departure (4:6); Assurance of Reward — fought/finished/kept, crown of righteousness, righteous judge, loved his appearing (4:7-8); Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days — Demas’s desertion, “loved this present world” (4:10); Perseverance under Suffering, Lordship of Christ, Power of God — “the Lord stood by me and strengthened me,” rescued from the lion’s mouth (4:16-17); Assurance of Reward, Salvation, Kingdom of God/Heavenly Kingdom, Glory of God (4:18); Greetings and Benediction Formulas — personal names and closing greetings, Lordship of Christ, Grace (4:9-22).
Chapter note: 4:9-15, 4:19-21 (personal instructions, travel requests, and the roll call of co-workers and opponents — Demas, Crescens, Titus, Luke, Mark, Tychicus, Carpus, Alexander the coppersmith, Prisca and Aquila, Onesiphorus’s household, Erastus, Trophimus, Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudia) is explicitly reviewed. Beyond Demas (Apostasy) and the proper-name transliteration standard (Greetings and Benediction Formulas), this material carries no independent Critical/High doctrinal freight and is noted here as reviewed, not silently omitted.
Section C: Risk Tier Summary (2 Timothy, this document)
| Risk Tier | Count | Review Routing |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | 5 | Human theologian, every occurrence |
| High | 15 | Human theologian |
| Medium | 5 | Native speaker review |
| Low | 2 | Automated review |
| Total | 27 | — |
This tally is derived directly from the per-doctrine risk field in doctrine_risk_registry.json and is provided here for internal cross-check; it supersedes any arithmetic in that file’s own risk_summary block if a discrepancy is ever found, since the per-doctrine entries are the authoritative source of record.
This document extends but never contradicts doctrine_risk_registry.json. See 08_core_glossary.md for term-level renderings and 12_ai_translation_requirements.md (Romans baseline, to be extended for 2 Timothy at Phase 2) for enforcement mechanics.
Critical Risk Doctrines
Inspiration and Sufficiency of Scripture
Bengali name: শাস্ত্রের ঈশ্বর-প্রেরণা ও পর্যাপ্ততা
Key terms: scripture, god-breathed, sacred writings, profitable for teaching
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: শাস্ত্র alone or ধর্মগ্রন্থ would flatten Scripture into a generic label shared with Hindu shastras and the Qur’an, erasing its unique claim to be ঈশ্বর-নিঃশ্বাসিত (God-breathed). অনুপ্রাণিত alone under-translates θεόπνευστος into a merely subjective ‘inspiration’ familiar from describing a poet or activist. Must consistently use পবিত্রশাস্ত্র and ঈশ্বর-নিঃশ্বাসিত with no drift across chapters.
Lordship of Christ
Bengali name: খ্রীষ্টের প্রভুত্ব
Key terms: the Lord, the Lord stood by me, the Lord will rescue me, grace be with you
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline. প্রভু must convey exclusive, supreme Lordship throughout 2 Timothy’s frequent personal-address and benediction usage, not one honorific among several religious teachers; the closing benediction (4:22) is a fixed formula that must match consistently across all curriculum documents.
Resurrection of Christ
Bengali name: খ্রীষ্টের পুনরুত্থান
Key terms: risen from the dead, resurrection, resurrection already happened (false teaching)
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline: পুনরুত্থান, never পুনর্জন্ম (reincarnation within the samsara cycle). 2 Timothy 2:18 additionally names a concrete heresy (Hymenaeus and Philetus’s claim that ‘the resurrection has already happened’) that must be explicitly flagged as false teaching in any curriculum material, not presented neutrally, since it directly attacks this Critical doctrine from within the text itself.
Salvation
Bengali name: পরিত্রাণ
Key terms: salvation, saved, wisdom for salvation, safely into his heavenly kingdom
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline forbidden-substitution list: never মুক্তি, মোক্ষ, or নাজাত. 2 Timothy 3:15’s ‘wisdom for salvation’ additionally risks a jñāna/Vedantic-enlightenment misreading if জ্ঞানবান করা is left unanchored; the wisdom in view is relational trust in Christ, not mystical self-realization.
The Charge to Preach the Word
Bengali name: বচন প্রচারের আদেশ
Key terms: preach the word, charge, in season out of season, reprove rebuke exhort
Review routing: Human theologian
CRITICAL: this is the curriculum’s central imperative, sworn before God and Christ (διαμαρτύρομαι) as the judge of the living and the dead. বচন প্রচার কর must never be diluted to a soft suggestion or replaced by generic কথা বলা (‘just talking’); the sworn, judicial framing (4:1) must be retained so the charge is not read as ordinary pastoral advice.
High Risk Doctrines
Apostasy and False Teachers in the Last Days
Bengali name: শেষ কালের ধর্মভ্রষ্টতা ও ভ্রান্ত শিক্ষক
Key terms: last days, turn away, myths, itching ears, form of godliness, corrupted mind
Review routing: Human theologian
শেষ কালে (last days) must be read as the present, already-inaugurated church age, not only a distant future crisis, or Bengali readers may dismiss the warning as irrelevant to their own moment. ভক্তি (godliness, 3:5) carries a strong Hindu bhakti-devotionalism association (personal, emotional devotion to a chosen deity); it is retained as the established mainstream rendering but every occurrence requires anchoring to the true God of Scripture, since the passage specifically warns against godliness-in-form with no true divine referent behind it. কল্পকথা (myths) must stay generic, avoiding পুরাণ-genre terms that would sound like a targeted denunciation of Hindu sacred narrative.
Assurance of Reward
Bengali name: পুরস্কারের নিশ্চয়তা
Key terms: crown of righteousness, righteous judge, fought the good fight, poured out as a libation, loved his appearing
Review routing: Human theologian
ধার্মিকতার মুকুট (crown of righteousness) uses ধার্মিকতা, the baseline’s Critical forensic-justification term; a teaching note is required distinguishing this eschatological reward for a life of perseverance from the once-for-all forensic justification received by faith alone apart from works, so the two are never collapsed into a merit-based reading of salvation itself. উৎসর্গরূপে ঢেলে দেওয়া (poured out as a libation) must be anchored as OT sacrificial imagery, not read through Hindu ritual-libation (tarpan) practice.
Effectual Calling and Election
Bengali name: কার্যকর আহ্বান ও মনোনয়ন
Key terms: called with a holy calling, the elect, his own purpose and grace
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline. God’s sovereign summons and personal choice (আহুত/আহ্বান, মনোনীত) must not be read as karma-determined destiny (ভাগ্য/নিয়তি/কর্মফল); Paul’s endurance ‘for the sake of the elect’ (2:10) presumes this same sovereign, relational choice, not an impersonal predetermined fate.
Faith
Bengali name: বিশ্বাস
Key terms: faith, sincere faith, firmly believed, kept the faith
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline. বিশ্বাস must always retain personal trust in Christ specifically as its object, distinct from ঈমান (Islamic creedal submission to tawhid) and শ্রদ্ধা (Hindu devotional reverence); Timothy’s ‘sincere faith’ inherited from his mother and grandmother must not be read as mere family religious custom.
Faithful Transmission of the Gospel
Bengali name: সুসমাচারের বিশ্বস্ত হস্তান্তর
Key terms: entrusted deposit, guard, faithful people, word of God not bound, laying on of hands
Review routing: Human theologian
আমানত is rejected for the ‘entrusted deposit’ (παραθήκη): this Perso-Arabic loanword carries a specific, prominent Islamic ethical-trust connotation that would import a different ethical frame than Paul’s image of a treasure entrusted for safekeeping and multi-generational onward transmission. গচ্ছিত ধন is required, and বিশ্বস্ত মানুষ (trustworthy people, 2:2) must be kept distinct from বিশ্বাসী (believing people) to preserve the character-transmission-chain sense.
Glory of God
Bengali name: ঈশ্বরের মহিমা
Key terms: eternal glory, glory forever and ever
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline: মহিমা, never তেজ (which risks Hindu divine-light/deity-aura associations).
Godliness and Devotion
Bengali name: ঈশ্বরভক্তি
Key terms: godliness, form of godliness, live godly
Review routing: Human theologian
New doctrine specific to this book. ভক্তি, the established mainstream rendering of εὐσέβεια, is deeply associated with Hindu bhakti devotionalism (personal, emotional devotion to a chosen deity such as Krishna or Kali, expressed through kirtan and ritual worship). Retained for consistency with mainstream Bengali Bible tradition, but 3:5’s warning against a mere ‘form’ of godliness with no true power requires every occurrence to explicitly anchor the devotion’s object as the God of Scripture, since generic bhakti framing could supply the wrong theological content.
God’s Faithfulness amid Human Faithlessness
Bengali name: মানুষের অবিশ্বস্ততার মধ্যেও ঈশ্বরের বিশ্বস্ততা
Key terms: if we are faithless he remains faithful, God’s foundation stands firm, the Lord knows those who are his
Review routing: Human theologian
New doctrine specific to this book, distinct from Assurance of Reward’s eschatological-crown focus: this is assurance rooted in God’s unchanging character even when believers fail. Must be distinguished from the orthodox Islamic position that a believer’s final standing before God cannot be known with certainty before death, and from a karmic framework in which outcomes are earned rather than secured by another’s unchanging faithfulness.
Grace
Bengali name: অনুগ্রহ
Key terms: grace, strengthened by grace, not according to our works, before the ages
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline (Critical forbidden-substitution list: never পুণ্য, ভাগ্য, কৃপা in soteriological contexts). 2 Timothy 1:9’s grace-versus-works antithesis additionally requires কাজ rather than কর্ম for ‘works,’ since কর্ম risks a karma-merit-accounting reading that would directly contradict the grace-apart-from-merit doctrine.
Guarding Sound Doctrine
Bengali name: সুস্থ শিক্ষা রক্ষা
Key terms: sound doctrine, sound words, rightly handle the word of truth, guard
Review routing: Human theologian
ধর্মমত is rejected for ‘sound doctrine’ because ধর্ম collides with both the Hindu-dharma sense and the generic ‘religion’ sense of the word in everyday Bengali (হিন্দু ধর্ম, খ্রীষ্টান ধর্ম), exactly the confusion the baseline forbids for righteousness. সুস্থ শিক্ষা preserves ὑγιαίνω’s health metaphor and must remain consistent with সুস্থ বচন (1:13).
Honor and Shame in Gospel Witness
Bengali name: সুসমাচারের সাক্ষ্যে সম্মান ও লজ্জা
Key terms: not ashamed, ashamed of my chains, was not ashamed of my imprisonment
Review routing: Human theologian
New doctrine specific to this book’s pastoral concern. Honor/shame dynamics are unusually salient in both Bengali Hindu caste/status culture and Bengali Muslim communal-identity culture (per the baseline’s flag on honor/shame); publicly associating with an imprisoned or persecuted Christian teacher carries genuine social risk in this context, so লজ্জিত হওয়া must retain real social stakes, not be flattened into private embarrassment.
Perseverance under Suffering
Bengali name: দুঃখভোগে স্থিরতা
Key terms: endure hardship, suffer, unashamed, persecution, all who desire to live godly will be persecuted
Review routing: Human theologian
The honor/shame vocabulary (লজ্জিত হওয়া) carries unusual weight in both Bengali Hindu and Muslim communal-identity contexts, where association with an imprisoned or socially disgraced person risks real social cost; softening ‘unashamed’ into mere emotional composure loses this social stakes. The universal claim of 3:12 (‘all who desire to live godly…will be persecuted’) must not be softened to an exceptional-case reading.
Power of God
Bengali name: ঈশ্বরের সামর্থ্য
Key terms: power, strengthened by grace, the Lord strengthened me
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline forbidden-substitution list: never শক্তি, given Bengal’s status as the historic heartland of Shakta Hinduism (Durga and Kali worship). This risk recurs repeatedly in 2 Timothy’s empowerment-in-suffering passages (1:7-8, 2:1, 4:17) and must be checked at every occurrence, not only in the core passage.
Repentance and Restoration
Bengali name: মন-পরিবর্তন ও পুনরুদ্ধার
Key terms: repentance, knowledge of the truth, escape the snare of the devil
Review routing: Human theologian
New doctrine specific to this book’s pastoral theology of restoring those ensnared by false teaching. মন-পরিবর্তন must convey a God-granted, decisive reorientation of the whole person, not mere reconsideration of an opinion. সত্যের জ্ঞান (knowledge of the truth) risks a jñāna/Vedantic-enlightenment misreading if not anchored as relational recognition of revealed truth rather than mystical self-attained insight.
Sanctification
Bengali name: পবিত্রীকরণ
Key terms: holy, sanctified vessel, cleanse oneself
Review routing: Human theologian
Reused from the Romans baseline. The vessel-cleansing metaphor of 2:21 additionally risks a শুচি-style ritual-purity misreading if not carefully rendered নিজেকে শুদ্ধ করা rather than a term implying ceremonial cleanliness akin to Hindu shuddhi.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Faithful Transmission Teaching Chain
Bengali name: শিক্ষার বিশ্বস্ত ধারা
Key terms: what you heard from me, entrust to faithful people, who will teach others also
Review routing: Native speaker review
New supporting doctrine specific to this book, structurally distinct from the individual term ‘entrusted deposit.’ The multi-link transmission chain (Paul → Timothy → trustworthy others → still others) must be preserved as a chain, not collapsed into a single hand-off, since the doctrine of Faithful Transmission of the Gospel depends on this generational structure.
Kingdom of God / Heavenly Kingdom
Bengali name: ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য / স্বর্গীয় রাজ্য
Key terms: his kingdom, his heavenly kingdom
Review routing: Native speaker review
Reused from the Romans baseline convention (ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য), rendered স্বর্গীয় রাজ্য at 4:18 for Christ’s specific ‘heavenly’ kingdom. Must convey God’s/Christ’s sovereign reign, not a political or territorial kingdom — a sensitive association to avoid in a religiously plural nation-state context.
Sacrificial Offering of Life
Bengali name: জীবনের উৎসর্গ
Key terms: poured out as a libation, time of my departure
Review routing: Native speaker review
New supporting doctrine specific to this book, closely tied to Assurance of Reward. উৎসর্গরূপে ঢেলে দেওয়া must be anchored to Old Testament sacrificial drink-offering imagery (Numbers 28) rather than any Hindu ritual libation practice such as tarpan; native-speaker review is recommended to confirm the OT background is clear in context or supplied by a translator note.
Vice List of the Last Days
Bengali name: শেষ কালের দোষের তালিকা
Key terms: lovers of self, lovers of money, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
Review routing: Native speaker review
New supporting doctrine specific to this book’s Apostasy material. No single item in the eighteen-term catalogue is individually Critical, but native-speaker review is recommended to ensure the cumulative list reads as a coherent moral portrait rather than a disconnected word-list, and that the climactic φιλόθεος contrast clearly presumes ঈশ্বর (the God of Scripture) as the sole legitimate object of ultimate love.
Vocational Metaphors for Ministry
Bengali name: সেবাকাজের পেশাগত রূপক
Key terms: soldier, athlete, farmer, worker approved
Review routing: Native speaker review
New supporting doctrine specific to this book. The soldier/athlete/farmer images (সৈনিক/প্রতিযোগী/কৃষক) are culturally transparent in Bengali with no significant syncretism risk, but native-speaker review is recommended to ensure the athlete’s ‘competing by the rules’ (νομίμως ἀθλήσῃ) is not misread as works-based merit accounting, given the adjacency to Guarding Sound Doctrine and Assurance of Reward.
Low Risk Doctrines
Greetings and Benediction Formulas
Bengali name: শুভেচ্ছা ও আশীর্বাদসূচক বাক্য
Key terms: grace, mercy, peace, proper names of co-workers, the Lord be with your spirit
Review routing: Automated review
Proper names (Priscilla and Aquila, Onesiphorus, Erastus, Trophimus, Carpus, Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudia, Demas) carry no independent theological content; render each in its established Bengali Bible transliteration for cross-reference consistency.
