Doctrine Analysis

Doctrine Analysis: Micah (Full Book, Chapters 1–7)

Purpose

This document provides the complete doctrine matrix for the Micah curriculum, covering every chapter of the book from first to last. It is fully consistent with assets/doctrine_risk_registry.json: the same 18 doctrines, the same risk tiers (5 Critical, 12 High, 1 Medium, 0 Low), and the same review-routing assignments. Micah 6:6-8 remains the theological anchor and core passage, but the analysis below spans the whole book so that no chapter’s doctrinal content is silently omitted. Every doctrine below reuses baseline Romans terminology exactly wherever the baseline already fixed a rendering (ঈশ্বর, পবিত্র আত্মা, পাপ, শান্তি, নিয়ম, ব্যবস্থা, ইস্রায়েল, দায়ূদ, অব্রাহাম, পরিত্রাণ, ধার্মিকতা root), and introduces new terms only where the baseline glossary has no prior entry (per 08_core_glossary.md).

Micah 5 — The Ruler from Bethlehem

  • Doctrines active: The Coming Ruler from Bethlehem [#3] and The Davidic Covenant and Messianic Promise [#12] — 5:2-5 (Bethlehem Ephrathah, the ruler “from of old, from everlasting,” the shepherd-king); Idolatry and False Worship [#7] — 5:13-14 (future purging of idols); Remnant Theology [#15] — 5:7-8 (the remnant among the nations like dew, like a lion).

  • Coverage status: Reviewed. Chapter 6 is the theological anchor of the whole curriculum and the primary source of five active doctrines.

Micah 7 — Confession, Hope, and the Incomparable, Compassionate God

  • Doctrines active: The Threefold Vocabulary of Sin, Rebellion, and Iniquity [#16] — 7:18-19 (pardoning iniquity, passing over transgression); Hope of Restoration and Forgiveness [#5] — 7:7 (“I will look to the LORD… the God of my salvation”); The Deity and Incomparable Uniqueness of God [#13] — 7:18 (“Who is a God like you?”); Divine Compassion and Pardon [#14] — 7:18-19; The Covenant Faithfulness of God [#17] — 7:20 (oath to Abraham and Jacob).

Native speaker review1The Covenant Faithfulness of God (#17)
Automated review only0

No doctrine in Micah is Low risk; the book’s dense covenant-lawsuit, messianic, and sin-vocabulary content means nearly the entire doctrine matrix requires human theologian review before Phase 2 segment translation proceeds, consistent with the escalation rules in 12_ai_translation_requirements.md.

Critical Risk Doctrines

The Coming Ruler from Bethlehem

Bengali name:
Key terms: bethlehem_ephrathah, ruler, from_everlasting, shepherd
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: শাসক (ruler) must be read messianically, as Matthew 2:5-6 itself reads it, not reduced to a merely political or military figure. অনাদিকাল থেকে (from everlasting) is the single highest doctrinal flashpoint in the book: অনাদি is a load-bearing term in Hindu Vedantic philosophy for Brahman’s impersonal, beginningless eternity, so without a clarifying note Bengali readers may hear an impersonal philosophical claim rather than the eternal Son’s personal pre-existence.

Hope of Restoration and Forgiveness

Bengali name:
Key terms: remnant, redeem, god_of_my_salvation, pardoning_iniquity, passing_over_transgression, compassion
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: পরিত্রাণ (salvation) and উদ্ধার করা (redeem) must never drift toward মুক্তি/মোক্ষ (Hindu liberation from the rebirth cycle) or নাজাত (Islamic deliverance through weighed deeds); Micah’s hope is restoration to covenant relationship with a personal God who himself pardons, not an impersonal liberation mechanism or a merit balance sheet.

The Davidic Covenant and Messianic Promise

Bengali name:
Key terms: bethlehem_ephrathah, ruler, from_everlasting, david
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: this is the verse Matthew 2:5-6 cites as the scribes’ answer to Herod regarding the Messiah’s birthplace. Bengali Muslim readers venerate Dawud as a prophet-king but without the covenantal-promise, eternal-sonship dimension Micah’s argument (and its NT fulfillment) requires; অনাদিকাল থেকে specifically must not be read through a Vedantic impersonal-eternity lens.

The Deity and Incomparable Uniqueness of God

Bengali name:
Key terms: who_is_a_god_like_you, god, yhwh
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: the rhetorical incomparability claim (also a wordplay on the prophet’s own name) must not be softened into “the best among many gods,” a real risk in a Hindu-majority polytheistic frame; equally, this affirmation of God’s singular uniqueness must not be misused by Muslim-background readers as implicit support for a strictly Islamic tawhid reading that would exclude the Trinity and Christ’s deity established elsewhere in the curriculum.

Spirit-Empowered Prophetic Ministry

Bengali name:
Key terms: holy_spirit, prophet, false_prophet
Review routing: Human theologian

CRITICAL: সদাপ্রভুর পবিত্র আত্মা must reuse the baseline’s Critical Holy Spirit rendering exactly and never be rendered ব্রহ্ম or পরমাত্মা; Micah’s self-description as filled with the Spirit for justice and courage, set against money-driven false prophets, requires the same personal, divine, Trinity-consistent Spirit as in the New Testament.

High Risk Doctrines

True Worship versus Empty Ritual

Bengali name:
Key terms: burnt offering, high place, idol, do justice, love mercy, walk humbly
Review routing: Human theologian

Micah’s rejection of sacrificial accumulation as a substitute for obedience must not be flattened into a generic anti-ritualism that could be misread as devaluing the Lord’s Supper or baptism; nor may হোমবলি (burnt offering) be allowed to evoke ongoing Hindu homa fire-ritual logic, where repeated, priest-mediated offerings are understood to accumulate merit. The passage’s rhetorical escalation (more sacrifices, more costly sacrifices) must land as a decisive rejection of merit-by-ritual, paralleling the baseline’s Grace-versus-merit rule.

Justice, Mercy, and Humility

Bengali name:
Key terms: justice, do justice, love mercy, walk humbly, mercy
Review routing: Human theologian

The three parallel demands of 6:8 must be rendered as grammatically equal, not subordinated to one another, and ন্যায়বিচার (social/legal justice) must be kept visibly distinct from ধার্মিকতা (baseline Critical forensic-righteousness term) so learners do not collapse ethical justice-to-neighbor with forensic right-standing before God. দয়া (chesed) must also be kept distinct from অনুগ্রহ (grace) and করুণা (a term with strong Buddhist compassion-doctrine associations).

Judgment on Corrupt Leaders

Bengali name:
Key terms: leaders, oppress, violence, dishonest_scales, false_prophet
Review routing: Human theologian

Micah’s indictment names specific classes of leadership (heads, judges, priests, prophets) as guilty; নেতা/প্রধান শাসকগণ must not be softened into a vague, unaccountable “important people,” since this doctrine’s translation-critical force is that leadership itself is directly, nameably accountable to God’s justice standard — a politically live claim in contemporary Bangladeshi and West Bengal contexts where criticizing religious or civic leadership carries real social risk.

Inspiration of Scripture (Prophetic Revelation)

Bengali name:
Key terms: vision, word_of_the_lord, prophet
Review routing: Human theologian

দর্শন (vision) risks being read through the lens of Hindu devotional darshan, where the worshiper actively seeks the sight of a deity or guru; here the direction is reversed — God graciously shows his word to the prophet. Must also be distinguished from Qur’anic verbal-dictation (wahy) and Hindu shruti categories of revelation.

Idolatry and False Worship

Bengali name:
Key terms: idol, high_place
Review routing: Human theologian

প্রতিমা/মূর্তি are the ordinary Bengali words for consecrated Hindu deity images; Micah’s polemic is historically specific to Israelite/Samarian syncretism and must be pastorally framed so it is not heard as a direct condemnation of Bengali Hindu neighbors’ religious practice by vocabulary association alone.

The Covenant Lawsuit

Bengali name:
Key terms: covenant_lawsuit, righteous_acts_of_the_lord
Review routing: Human theologian

The רִיב legal-covenant genre (mountains summoned as witnesses, formal charges brought) has no single lexical Bengali equivalent; rendering it as a casual complaint or dispute would lose the formal, binding, courtroom-like force that frames the entire core passage’s demand in 6:8.

Social Justice and Oppression of the Vulnerable

Bengali name:
Key terms: covet, oppress, inheritance
Review routing: Human theologian

The seizure of another family’s নাচালাহ (God-given inheritance-land) is a covenantal violation, not simply a property-law infraction; must be rendered so the theological weight (violation of God’s own land-allotment order) is not reduced to a secular economic complaint.

False Prophecy for Profit

Bengali name:
Key terms: false_prophet, diviner, holy_spirit
Review routing: Human theologian

The contrast between Micah’s Spirit-empowered true proclamation (সদাপ্রভুর পবিত্র আত্মা) and money-driven false prophecy must be sharply preserved in Bengali, particularly given the contemporary relevance of prosperity-oriented preaching; মিথ্যা ভাববাদী must not be softened into a merely “mistaken” prophet.

The Eschatological Kingdom of God (Nations Streaming to Zion)

Bengali name:
Key terms: latter_days, law, kingdom_of_god, gather
Review routing: Human theologian

শেষকাল must convey linear, purposeful historical climax, not the cyclical cosmic ages (yugas) of Hindu cosmology; ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য must retain the baseline’s non-political, non-territorial sense even though the vision includes real nations and real swords beaten into plowshares, since a literalist territorial-political reading is a live sensitivity in a religiously plural nation-state context.

Divine Compassion and Pardon

Bengali name:
Key terms: pardoning_iniquity, passing_over_transgression, compassion, mercy
Review routing: Human theologian

করুণা (racham/compassion) carries strong Buddhist doctrinal associations (karuna) as a generalized meditative virtue; here it names a personal God’s particular, covenant-relational compassion toward his specific covenant people, not an abstract ethical ideal to be cultivated by the worshiper.

Remnant Theology

Bengali name:
Key terms: remnant, gather
Review routing: Human theologian

অবশিষ্টাংশ must carry the same covenant-hope theological freight as Romans 9-11’s remnant theology (already implicit in the baseline’s election/providence entries), not be read as a merely demographic description of population survivors.

The Threefold Vocabulary of Sin, Rebellion, and Iniquity

Bengali name:
Key terms: sin, transgression, iniquity
Review routing: Human theologian

Hebrew distinguishes חַטָּאת (missing the mark), פֶּשַׁע (willful rebellion), and עָוֹן (guilt-bearing iniquity) as three related but distinct categories; Bengali must preserve this three-way distinction (পাপ / বিদ্রোহ / অপরাধ) rather than collapsing all three into পাপ alone, or the moral-theological texture of Micah’s confession in chapter 7 is lost.

Medium Risk Doctrines

The Covenant Faithfulness of God

Bengali name:
Key terms: truth_faithfulness, oath, covenant, abraham, jacob
Review routing: Native speaker review

বিশ্বস্ততা (faithfulness) must carry relational, covenant-keeping force rather than a merely propositional “factual truth” sense; grounds the book’s closing hope in God’s ancient oath to the patriarchs.
