Cross-Reference Analysis
Cross-Reference and Theme Analysis: Psalms
English → Bengali Language Package Extension
Curriculum: Psalms
Core passage: Psalm 23:1-6
Generated: 2026-07-03
Depends on: 07_semantic_analysis.md, 08_core_glossary.md (Psalms extension); baseline translation_memory.json, bible_term_registry.json, doctrine_risk_registry.json (Romans)
Citation Normalization Convention
All citations in this document and all downstream Phase 2 artifacts must follow this normalized format:
- Book Chapter:Verse in English source citation, e.g.
Psalm 23:1,Romans 4:7-8,Genesis 15:6. - Individual psalm references use the singular “Psalm” (not “Psalms”), matching standard English Bible convention:
Psalm 110:1, notPsalms 110:1. The book-level name (used only when referring to the whole book) is “Psalms.” - Bengali citation format follows the baseline’s established house style: Bengali book name + Bengali/Arabic numerals per the baseline’s existing convention (verse numbers remain Arabic numerals; book/chapter numbering follows Bangladesh Bible Society convention). Example: গীতসংহিতা ২৩:১ (chapter number Bengali-style is acceptable per existing Bengali Bible tradition for Psalms specifically, since গীতসংহিতা references are conventionally rendered this way in Bengali Bibles — confirm final numeral policy with reviewer, consistent with the baseline’s own “confirm with reviewer” flag on Romans numerals).

Part A — Core Passage Cross-Reference Matrix: Psalm 23:1-6
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Psalm 23:1 | God as Shepherd | David, YHWH | Echoes Genesis 48:15 (Jacob: “God who has been my shepherd”); Genesis 49:24; developed in Ezekiel 34:11-16 (YHWH himself will shepherd Israel after failed human shepherds) | মেষপালক fixed rendering must match its NT counterpart exactly (John 10:11 উত্তম মেষপালক); সদাপ্রভু, not generic প্রভু, in v.1’s “YHWH is my shepherd.” |
| Psalm 23:1-4 | Shepherd fulfilled in Christ | Jesus | John 10:11-16 (“I am the good shepherd”); Hebrews 13:20 (“the great Shepherd of the sheep”); 1 Peter 2:25 (“the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls”); 1 Peter 5:4 (“the chief Shepherd”) | Teaching materials must draw the explicit line: Psalm 23’s সদাপ্রভু-as-শepherd is claimed by Jesus of himself in John 10, a direct implicit claim to deity consistent with baseline’s deity_of_christ doctrine. |
| Psalm 23:4 | Presence in danger / assurance | David | Anticipates Romans 8:38-39 (“nothing… shall be able to separate us from the love of God”) | Both texts must use consistent vocabulary for God’s felt, personal presence amid danger; do not let Psalm 23:4’s তুমি আমার সঙ্গে আছ drift from Romans 8’s assurance-of-salvation vocabulary in teaching cross-references. |
| Psalm 23:5 | Divine hospitality / abundance | David | Anticipates Isaiah 25:6 (eschatological banquet); developed in Luke 14:15-24 (parable of the great banquet); consummated in Revelation 19:9 (marriage supper of the Lamb) | তেল দিয়ে মাথা সিক্ত করা (hospitality-anointing) must remain distinct from the royal/priestly অভিষেক করা used at Psalm 2:2, 110:4, per the anointing_hospitality / anointing_royal distinction in the Core Glossary. |
| Psalm 23:6 | Dwelling in God’s house forever | David | Develops into John 14:2-3 (“in my Father’s house are many rooms”); Revelation 21:3 (“the dwelling place of God is with man”) | সদাপ্রভুর গৃহ (house of the LORD) must be kept distinct from মণ্ডলী (church, baseline) — the OT sanctuary image is fulfilled in the NT’s eschatological dwelling-with-God hope, not simply equated with the present-day congregation. |
| Psalm 23 (whole) | Covenant Faithfulness (Hesed) | David, YHWH | Ps 23:6’s “hesed shall follow me” links directly to the book-wide hesed refrain (Psalm 136) and to Romans 8:35-39’s “who shall separate us from the love of Christ” | অবিচল দয়া (hesed) in v.6 must be flagged for cross-reference consistency with baseline’s grace (অনুগ্রহ) doctrine in Romans — the two Bengali terms are related in effect but must remain lexically distinct, as documented in 08_core_glossary.md. |
Part B — Messianic Prophecy and Typology Cross-Reference Matrix
These are the Psalms whose NT quotations/allusions bear directly on the “Messianic Prophecy in the Psalms” and “Kingship and the Messianic King” doctrines. All rows in this section are Critical translation-sensitivity by default and require mandatory human theologian review per baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json review-routing convention.
| Passage | Theme | Related Character | OT/NT Connection | Translation Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Psalm 2:1-2 | Rebellion against God’s Anointed | the nations, the Anointed | Quoted Acts 4:25-26 of the rulers who crucified Jesus | অভিষিক্ত জন (Ps 2’s OT term) must not be silently rendered খ্রীষ্ট; NT quotation in Acts must use খ্রীষ্ট/যীশু খ্রীষ্ট, with an explicit translator note bridging the two. |
| Psalm 2:7 | ”You are my Son” — royal coronation formula | the Davidic king; typologically, Christ | Quoted Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5; Hebrews 5:5, of Christ’s divine Sonship and resurrection/exaltation | তুমি আমার পুত্র in its OT coronation-formula sense must carry a mandatory translator note distinguishing it from the NT’s ontological, eternal Sonship of Christ (baseline sonship_of_christ), given the acute sensitivity for Muslim-background readers documented in the baseline. |
| Psalm 2:8-9 | Messianic universal rule; judgment of the nations | the Anointed King | Quoted/echoed Revelation 2:26-27; 12:5; 19:15 (ruling the nations with a rod of iron) | রাজত্ব করবেন / শাসন করবেন vocabulary must stay consistent with Ps 72’s and Ps 110’s kingship vocabulary. |
| Psalm 8:4-6 | Humanity’s dominion, “son of man” | humanity; typologically, Christ as true Man | Quoted 1 Corinthians 15:27; Ephesians 1:22; and extensively in Hebrews 2:6-8, applying “son of man… crowned with glory and honor” to Christ’s incarnation and exaltation | মানুষ/মানবপুত্র must be handled per the note in 07_semantic_analysis.md: most OT occurrences are generic humanity language; only the Hebrews 2 application makes the messianic reading explicit — do not force a messianic gloss onto Psalm 8 itself in its own context. |
| Psalm 16:8-11 | Bodily resurrection without decay | David; typologically and ultimately, Christ | Quoted directly and extensively in Acts 2:25-28 and Acts 13:35-37 as proof of Christ’s bodily resurrection | পাতাল (Sheol) and পুনরুত্থান (resurrection) both appear in the argument’s orbit; must never allow পাতাল to be confused with পুনর্জন্ম (reincarnation, baseline-forbidden) — this is one of the most doctrinally load-bearing Sheol occurrences in the Psalter. |
| Psalm 22:1 | Cry of dereliction | David; the suffering Messiah | Quoted verbatim by Christ on the cross: Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34 | Must render আমার ঈশ্বর, আমার ঈশ্বর, তুমি কেন আমাকে পরিত্যাগ করলে identically in every Gospel-harmonization and Psalms teaching document; do not soften পরিত্যাগ (forsaken/abandoned). |
| Psalm 22:7-8 | Mockery of the sufferer | David; the suffering Messiah | Echoed Matthew 27:39, 43; Mark 15:29; Luke 23:35 | Handle as an exegetical/footnote matter; no new glossary term required beyond established মহিমা/বিশ্বাস vocabulary. |
| Psalm 22:16, 18 | Pierced hands/feet; garments divided, lots cast | David; the suffering Messiah | Quoted/echoed Matthew 27:35; John 19:23-24 (garments); textual-critical note on “pierced” (see 07_semantic_analysis.md) | Flag the v.16 textual-variant issue for mandatory theologian review; v.18’s garment-division must use consistent vocabulary with all four Gospel-harmonization occurrences. |
| Psalm 22:22 | ”I will declare your name to my brothers” | David; typologically, Christ | Quoted Hebrews 2:12, of Christ identifying with his church as brothers | মণ্ডলী (assembly, baseline) is the appropriate connecting term when this verse is taught alongside Hebrews 2:12’s congregational sense. |
| Psalm 22:27-28 | Universal worship, God’s kingship over the nations | all the ends of the earth | Anticipates Romans 15:9-12’s catena of OT texts on Gentile praise; connects to baseline’s unity_of_jews_and_gentiles doctrine | জাতিগণ (generic nations) here, not পরজাতি — see the baseline nuance note in 08_core_glossary.md. |
| Psalm 34:20 | ”Not one of his bones will be broken” | the righteous sufferer; typologically, Christ | Fulfilled John 19:33-36 | Handle as exegetical footnote; no new glossary term. |
| Psalm 40:6-8 | Obedience greater than sacrifice | David; typologically, Christ’s incarnate obedience | Quoted Hebrews 10:5-7, of Christ’s incarnation and atoning obedience | নৈবেদ্য (offering) retained per the caution already documented in 07_semantic_analysis.md; connects to baseline’s incarnation (দেহধারণ) doctrine — the “body you have prepared for me” (LXX/Hebrews wording) must not be rendered with অবতার. |
| Psalm 45:6-7 | ”Your throne, O God, is forever” | the Davidic king; typologically, Christ’s deity | Quoted Hebrews 1:8-9 as direct address to the divine Son | ঈশ্বর must remain the address term without softening, per baseline’s deity_of_christ Critical routing. |
| Psalm 68:18 | Ascension and gift-giving | YHWH; typologically, the ascended Christ | Quoted Ephesians 4:8, of Christ’s ascension and the giving of গifts/আত্মিক বর | Connects Psalm’s ascension imagery to baseline’s fixed আত্মিক বর (spiritual gifts) term. |
| Psalm 69:9 | Zeal for God’s house; bearing reproach | David; typologically, Christ | Quoted John 2:17 (temple-cleansing zeal); Romans 15:3 (“the reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me”) | Direct Romans-quotation overlap — see Part D below for the rendering-consistency rule this requires. |
| Psalm 69:21 | Given vinegar to drink | David; typologically, Christ | Fulfilled Matthew 27:34, 48; John 19:28-29 | Handle as exegetical footnote. |
| Psalm 78:2 | ”I will open my mouth in parables” | Asaph; typologically, Christ’s teaching method | Quoted Matthew 13:35 | Low risk; no new glossary term required. |
| Psalm 89:3-4, 20, 26-29, 34-37 | Davidic covenant, “my firstborn,” everlasting throne | David; typologically, Christ | Echoed Luke 1:32-33 (Gabriel’s announcement to Mary); connects to baseline’s davidic_covenant doctrine | নিয়ম (covenant, baseline) and দায়ূদের বংশ (seed of David, baseline) both apply; reinforce with new hesed term since Ps 89 frames the covenant explicitly as an act of অবিচল দয়া. |
| Psalm 91:11-12 | Angelic protection | any who dwell in God’s refuge | Quoted (misapplied) by Satan in the temptation narrative: Matthew 4:6; Luke 4:10-11 | Flag for teaching note: the devil’s citation of this refuge-psalm is a deliberate twisting of a true refuge-promise into a test of presumption — an important teaching point for the “Character of God as Refuge” doctrine, not a translation-term issue. |
| Psalm 95:7-11 | Hardened hearts, wilderness rebellion, God’s rest | Israel in the wilderness; the church | Extensively quoted/expounded Hebrews 3:7-11, 15; 4:3-7, warning the church against unbelief | আমাদের বিশ্রাম/ঈশ্বরের বিশ্রাম (God’s rest) is a new low-medium risk phrase worth noting for cross-reference with Hebrews’ extended argument; keep বিশ্বাস (baseline) as the term for the positive counterpart to the hardened-heart warning. |
| Psalm 102:25-27 | Creator’s eternity contrasted with creation’s decay | YHWH; typologically, the eternal Son | Quoted Hebrews 1:10-12, applied directly to Christ as Creator | Connects to baseline’s deity_of_christ; সৃষ্টিকর্তা (Creator) reused per Psalm 95/100 note in 07_semantic_analysis.md. |
| Psalm 104:4 | Angels as spirits/flames of fire | angelic beings | Quoted Hebrews 1:7, contrasting angelic and Son’s status | Low risk; no new term. |
| Psalm 109:8 | ”Let another take his office” | the betrayer (in context, David’s enemy) | Applied to Judas Iscariot: Acts 1:20 | Handle as exegetical footnote for NT teaching materials; no glossary term change. |
| Psalm 110:1 | ”The LORD said to my Lord” | David; the divine Messiah | The single most-quoted OT verse in the NT: Matthew 22:44; Mark 12:36; Luke 20:42-43; Acts 2:34-35; 1 Corinthians 15:25; Hebrews 1:13; Hebrews 10:12-13 | See two_lords_ps110 Critical entry (Core Glossary). সদাপ্রভু আমার প্রভুকে বলেন must be the fixed rendering in every one of these NT citation contexts as well, preserving the two-referent distinction throughout the whole cross-curriculum corpus, including any future Gospel-harmony curricula. |
| Psalm 110:4 | Priest-king after the order of Melchizedek | Melchizedek; the Davidic king; Christ | Extensively expounded Hebrews 5:6, 10; 6:20; 7:1-21 | যাজক … মল্কীষেদক fixed per Core Glossary; must connect explicitly to Genesis 14:18-20’s original Melchizedek narrative in teaching materials. |
| Psalm 118:22-23 | The rejected stone become the cornerstone | the psalmist/Israel; typologically, Christ | Quoted Matthew 21:42; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17; Acts 4:11; 1 Peter 2:7 | Flag for mandatory theologian review; consistent rendering required across all NT-quotation occurrences (see Part D). |
| Psalm 118:25-26 | ”Hosanna… blessed is he who comes” | pilgrims; typologically, Christ’s triumphal entry | Quoted Matthew 21:9; Mark 11:9-10; Luke 19:38; John 12:13 | হোশান্না transliterated per hosanna_save_now Critical entry; must be identical across every Gospel citation. |
| Psalm 132:11 | Oath to David concerning his offspring | David; Christ | Echoed Acts 2:30, in Peter’s Pentecost sermon alongside Psalm 16 | নিয়ম/দায়ূদের বংশ vocabulary applies; connects Ps 132 to the Ps 89/Ps 110 Davidic-covenant cluster. |

Part D — Cross-Curriculum Rendering-Consistency Rules (Psalms ↔ Romans)
Because this curriculum shares a language pipeline with the existing Romans Language Package, and because Paul quotes the Psalter extensively (especially in Romans 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, and 15), the following rules govern every shared quotation. Any Phase 2 segment containing one of these verses must apply the rule below rather than independently re-deriving a rendering.
-
Psalm 14:1-3 / Psalm 53:1-3 → Romans 3:10-12 (chain-quotation on universal sinfulness) and Psalm 36:1 → Romans 3:18 and Psalm 140:3 → Romans 3:13: All four Psalms verses feed a single unbroken Pauline quotation-chain in Romans 3:10-18. The Bengali rendering of each Psalms verse must be produced in full awareness of, and verbatim-matched to, its exact wording as it will appear quoted in the Romans 3 passage. দুষ্ট (wicked), ধার্মিক (righteous — none is), and সদাপ্রভুর ভয় (fear of the LORD) vocabulary must carry over unchanged from Psalms into the Romans quotation. This is a Critical review item: flag for mandatory human theologian review in both curricula simultaneously.
-
Psalm 19:4 → Romans 10:18: “Their voice has gone out to all the earth” — render তাদের রব সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে গিয়েছে identically in both the Psalms creation-praise context and the Romans 10 argument about the universal reach of gospel proclamation (baseline
mission_to_nationsdoctrine). High risk. -
Psalm 32:1-2 → Romans 4:7-8: This is the single most doctrinally load-bearing Psalms/Romans overlap in the entire curriculum. Paul quotes Psalm 32:1-2 immediately after his Genesis 15:6 argument (Romans 4:3, 6) as Scriptural proof that God credits/imputes righteousness apart from works. The Bengali rendering of “blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered” MUST use: ধন্য (blessed, Ps 1 sense), the established Psalm 51 sin-triad terms (বিদ্রোহ for transgression, পাপ for sin/covered), and ক্ষমা করা (forgive) — and this exact combination must recur unmodified in the Romans 4 quotation, where it stands beside baseline’s Critical term আরোপিত ধার্মিকতা (imputed righteousness). Critical — mandatory theologian review in both curricula.
-
Psalm 44:22 → Romans 8:36: “For your sake we are killed all day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” মেষ (sheep, not মেষপালক which is reserved for the Shepherd himself) must be used consistently; this verse sits inside Romans 8’s assurance-of-salvation argument (baseline
assurance_of_salvationdoctrine), so lament-under-persecution language here must not be softened. High risk. -
Psalm 51:4 → Romans 3:4: “Against you, you only, have I sinned… that you may be justified in your words” — Paul quotes this to establish God’s righteousness in judgment. The verb ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া (justification, baseline Critical term) applies to the Romans 3:4 context (God himself being “justified”/shown right), a distinct, non-soteriological use of the same forensic-declaration vocabulary; flag for a translator note distinguishing “God is shown to be in the right” from “the sinner is declared righteous.” Critical risk.
-
Psalm 69:9b → Romans 15:3: “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” Because this same verse also functions as a passion-narrative citation (John 2:17 quotes 69:9a), the two halves of the verse must be tracked separately: 69:9a’s temple-zeal clause belongs to the messianic-suffering cluster (Part B); 69:9b’s reproach-bearing clause belongs to the Romans 15 Christ-centered-ministry/self-denial argument. Render consistently across both curricula: নিন্দা (reproach) vocabulary must match. High risk.
-
Psalm 69:22-23 → Romans 11:9-10: Used in Paul’s argument on Israel’s partial, temporary hardening (baseline
election/providencedoctrines). ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন (election, baseline) and ঈশ্বরের পরিচালনা (providence, baseline) vocabulary frames the doctrinal point; do not let the imprecatory tone of the original Psalm read as personal vindictiveness rather than Paul’s argument about a specific redemptive-historical moment. High risk. -
Psalm 106:20 → Romans 1:23: “They exchanged the glory of God for images” — মহিমা (glory, baseline) and প্রতিমা (idols, Core Glossary) both recur; verify Romans 1:23’s rendering of “exchanged…for the likeness of an ox that eats grass” uses the same প্রতিমা-family vocabulary established for Psalm 106 and Psalm 115. High risk.
-
Psalm 117:1 → Romans 15:11: “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles/nations” — this is one of Paul’s four OT citations in Romans 15:9-12 proving Gentile inclusion in praise of God (baseline
unity_of_jews_and_gentiles/universal_scope_of_gospeldoctrines). জাতিগণ (nations, generic, Core Glossary) is correct for the Psalm 117 source context; verify the Romans 15:11 quotation uses matching vocabulary, and confirm whether Romans 15:11’s argument specifically activates the baseline’s পরজাতি (Gentiles-in-contrast-to-Jews) sense given its explicit Jew/Gentile argument — this is a case where the generic/specific distinction documented in08_core_glossary.mdrequires careful context-sensitive judgment. Critical — flag for theologian review at the seam between the two terms. -
Psalm 143:2 → Romans 3:20 / Galatians 2:16: “No one living is righteous before you” underlies Paul’s “no one is justified by works of the law” argument. ধার্মিক (righteous, adjective) must connect to baseline’s Critical ধার্মিকতা/ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া family without collapsing into ধর্ম. Note also this is the direct conceptual parallel to Galatians 2:16 (outside the current curriculum scope, but sharing the same Language Package); Phase 2 workers producing Galatians materials in the future must reuse this exact rendering chain. Critical risk.
