Doctrine Analysis
11 Doctrine Analysis — Galatians (Full Book, Chapters 1–6)
This document executes PRD Phase 1 Step 4 (full-book doctrine analysis) for the Galatians curriculum in Bengali. It is fully consistent with doctrine_risk_registry.json (Galatians, v1): the same 15 doctrines, the same risk tiers, and the same review routing appear here. Galatians 2:15-21 remains the theological anchor of the curriculum but every chapter of the letter is analyzed below; sections that introduce no new doctrinal or terminological load are explicitly marked “reviewed — no new load-bearing content” rather than omitted.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Justification by Faith | Critical | 2:16, 2:21, 3:6-11, 3:24 | ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া / ব্যবস্থার কার্য contrast is the letter’s thesis; ধর্ম must never substitute for ধার্মিকতা | Human theologian |
| 2 | The True Gospel versus False Gospels | Critical | 1:6-9, 3:1, 4:16-17, 5:7-10 | ἕτερον vs ἄλλος distinction easily flattened; ভিন্ন সুসমাচার needs explanatory clause | Human theologian |

| 6 | The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise | High | 3:6-9, 3:14-18, 3:29, 4:21-31 | অব্রাহাম never ইব্রাহিম; Hagar/Sarah allegory risks Muslim-background misreading re: Ishmael | Human theologian |
| 7 | The Law’s Purpose | High | 3:19-25, 3:10-13, 4:1-9 | στοιχεῖα (4:3,9) must never use শক্তি; অভিভাবক is custodial not a teaching office | Human theologian |
| 8 | Adoption and Sonship | High | 3:26, 4:1-7, 4:28-31 | Believers’ derived sonship must stay distinct from Christ’s unique ঈশ্বরের পুত্র; full-inheritance status vs. Bengali adoptive-status assumptions | Human theologian |
| 9 | Freedom in Christ | High | 2:4, 5:1, 5:13, 5:16 | স্বাধীনতা collides with 1971 political-independence register; needs “খ্রীষ্টে স্বাধীনতা” anchoring | Native speaker |

| 11 | Flesh versus Spirit | High | 5:13, 5:16-17, 5:19-21, 6:8 | মাংস also means literal “meat”; note needed distinguishing fallen-nature sense from food/embodiment | Human theologian |
| 12 | Fruit of the Spirit | Medium | 5:22-23 | আত্মার ফল must stay grammatically singular against plural “works of the flesh” | Native speaker |
| 13 | Faith Working through Love | Critical | 5:6, 5:13-14 | প্রেম collides with Vaishnava bhakti romantic-devotional register (Radha-Krishna); needs contextual anchoring | Human theologian |

| 15 | Unity of Jews and Gentiles | High | 2:11-16, 3:28, 6:16 | 3:28’s social-leveling formula must not be softened; ঈশ্বরের ইস্রায়েল (6:16) is theological, not geopolitical | Human theologian |
Risk summary (matches registry): Critical: 5 · High: 7 · Medium: 3 · Low: 0. Total requiring theologian review: 12. Total requiring native speaker review: 3. Total automated-only: 0.
B. Chapter-by-Chapter Walkthrough (Full Coverage)
Galatians 1
- 1:1-2 (salutation, apostolic authority claim) — Paul’s Apostleship (#3): “not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ” anchors the entire letter’s authority claim. প্রেরিত, প্রত্যাদেশ groundwork begins here even though প্রত্যাদেশ itself appears explicitly at 1:12,16.
- 1:3-5 (grace/peace greeting, doxology) — Reuses baseline greeting pattern (অনুগ্রহ, শান্তি) and “gave himself for our sins… present evil age” — touches Crucified with Christ (#5) proto-formula and the “present evil age” (এই বর্তমান মন্দ যুগ) term flagged in the glossary for its collision with Hindu cyclical Yuga cosmology. Reviewed; no new doctrine beyond what is captured under #5 and background eschatology.
- 1:6-9 (astonishment at desertion to “another gospel,” double anathema) — Core text of The True Gospel versus False Gospels (#2). ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον / ἀνάθεμα both load-bearing.
- 1:10 — “Am I now seeking to please man?” — touches Paul’s Apostleship (#3) integrity theme; reviewed, no new terminology beyond what #3 already covers.
- 1:11-12 — “the gospel I preached is not man’s gospel… through a revelation (ἀποκάλυψις) of Jesus Christ” — Paul’s Apostleship (#3), core term প্রত্যাদেশ.
- 1:13-14 — Paul’s former persecution (তাড়না করা) of the church and zeal for Jewish ancestral traditions — Paul’s Apostleship (#3); pastoral sensitivity for converts noted in glossary.
- 1:15-17 — God’s setting Paul apart before birth, calling by grace, revelation of the Son — touches Divine Calling (baseline background, reused আহুত/আহ্বান terms) and Paul’s Apostleship (#3). No new Galatians-specific doctrine.
- 1:18-24 — Historical/biographical detail (Jerusalem visit, Cephas, Judea churches glorifying God) — reviewed, no new load-bearing doctrinal or terminological content beyond #3.
Galatians 2
- 2:1-5 — Titus not compelled to be circumcised; “false brothers” (ψευδάδελφοι) infiltrating “to spy out our freedom” — Circumcision and the New Creation (#10) and Freedom in Christ (#9) both introduced here structurally, though their fullest treatment is in chs. 5-6.
- 2:6-10 — Jerusalem “pillars” (στῦλοι) affirm Paul’s gospel to the Gentiles; division of labor (circumcised/uncircumcised) — Paul’s Apostleship (#3), Unity of Jews and Gentiles (#15) introduced.
- 2:11-14 — The Antioch incident; Peter’s hypocrisy; “compel Gentiles to Judaize” (Ἰουδαΐζειν) — Law and Grace (#4) and Unity of Jews and Gentiles (#15) sharply engaged.
- 2:15-21 (CORE PASSAGE) — The theological anchor of the whole curriculum: “we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ” (2:16); “I have been crucified with Christ” (2:19-20); “if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose” (2:21). This single unit carries Justification by Faith (#1), Law and Grace (#4), and Crucified with Christ (#5) simultaneously — the three highest-density Critical-risk doctrines in the letter. Every clause requires theologian review.
Galatians 3
- 3:1-5 — “You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?” — The True Gospel versus False Gospels (#2), βασκαίνω term. Also implicit Faith (baseline reused term) vs. “works of the law” repetition, reinforcing #1.
- 3:6-9 — Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”; “in you shall all the nations be blessed” — The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise (#6), directly invoking baseline’s আরোপিত ধার্মিকতা term (imputed righteousness) from Romans 4, now load-bearing again here.
- 3:10-14 — “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law”; “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law” — The Law’s Purpose (#7) and Crucified with Christ (#5) intersect; অভিশাপ, মুক্ত করা (redeem, verb only) terms.
- 3:15-18 — Covenant/promise cannot be annulled by the later law; inheritance not through law but through promise — The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise (#6).
- 3:19-25 — Purpose of the law: given through angels, a mediator (μεσίτης); law as guardian (παιδαγωγός) “until Christ came” — The Law’s Purpose (#7), the chapter’s densest concentration of this doctrine.
- 3:26-29 — “You are all sons of God, through faith… neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female… Abraham’s offspring, heirs” — Adoption and Sonship (#8) and Unity of Jews and Gentiles (#15) both climax here; the 3:28 formula is a High-risk, theologian-routed passage.
Galatians 4
- 4:1-7 — Heir as a minor under guardians vs. adoption as full son; “God sent forth his Son… to redeem”; “Spirit of adoption… Abba! Father!”; “no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir” — Adoption and Sonship (#8), the chapter’s core; also touches Crucified with Christ (#5) background (Son sent, redemption) and reuses the baseline আব্বা term.
- 4:8-11 — “How can you turn back to the weak and worthless elementary principles (στοιχεῖα) of the world… observing days and months and seasons”— The Law’s Purpose (#7), the contested στοιχεῖα term recurs.
- 4:12-20 — Paul’s pastoral appeal, physical infirmity, “I am perplexed about you” — touches baseline Christian Fellowship/Mutual Edification background categories; reviewed, no new Galatians-specific doctrine beyond pastoral tone already noted under Paul’s Apostleship (#3).
- 4:21-31 — The Hagar/Sarah allegory: “born according to the flesh” vs. “born according to promise”; “Jerusalem above is free, she is our mother”; “cast out the slave woman and her son” — The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise (#6) at its highest pastoral-sensitivity point, plus Freedom in Christ (#9) proto-statement (“Jerusalem above is free”).
Galatians 5
- 5:1-6 — “For freedom Christ has set us free… do not submit again to a yoke of slavery”; circumcision debate; “faith working through love” (5:6) — Freedom in Christ (#9), Circumcision and the New Creation (#10), and Faith Working through Love (#13) all concentrated here.
- 5:7-12 — “You were running well; who hindered you?… A little leaven leavens the whole lump” — The True Gospel versus False Gospels (#2) continued; agitators compelling circumcision — Circumcision and the New Creation (#10).
- 5:13-15 — “Do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another… love your neighbor as yourself” — Freedom in Christ (#9) and Faith Working through Love (#13) intersect; introduces Flesh versus Spirit (#11) framework.
- 5:16-18 — “Walk by the Spirit… the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit” — Flesh versus Spirit (#11) core statement.
- 5:19-21 — “Works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality… sorcery (φαρμακεία)… ” — Flesh versus Spirit (#11); φαρμακεία is a directly, not figuratively, condemned term (contrast with 3:1’s rhetorical “bewitched”).
- 5:22-23 — “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…” — Fruit of the Spirit (#12), the doctrine’s defining text.
- 5:24-26 — “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh… let us walk by the Spirit” — Crucified with Christ (#5) and Flesh versus Spirit (#11) both reinforced.
Galatians 6
- 6:1-5 — “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (νόμος τοῦ Χριστοῦ)” — Bearing One Another’s Burdens (#14); “law of Christ” also reinforces Law and Grace (#4)‘s deliberate double-sense of ব্যবস্থা.
- 6:6-10 — “God is not mocked… whoever sows to the flesh will reap corruption… let us not grow weary in doing good” — Bearing One Another’s Burdens (#14), sow/reap proverb collision risk flagged.
- 6:11-16 — Paul’s own hand; “neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but a new creation”; “peace and mercy… to the Israel of God” — Circumcision and the New Creation (#10) at its climax, plus Unity of Jews and Gentiles (#15)‘s ঈশ্বরের ইস্রায়েল.
- 6:17-18 — “I bear on my body the marks (στίγματα) of Jesus… grace be with your spirit” — Paul’s Apostleship (#3) closing seal; reviewed, στίγματα noted in glossary but does not rise to a distinct new doctrine.
C. Doctrines with No Independent Chapter but Cross-Cutting Presence
The following baseline (Romans) doctrines recur as necessary theological background throughout Galatians without constituting a distinct new Galatians doctrine; they are reused exactly per the baseline registry and are noted here for completeness rather than re-analyzed:
- Salvation (পরিত্রাণ) — background to Justification by Faith throughout.
- Divine Calling / Election (আহুত/আহ্বান, ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন) — background to 1:15 and 3:26-29.
- Holy Spirit (পবিত্র আত্মা) — load-bearing throughout ch. 3-5 but risk profile unchanged from baseline; reused, not re-tiered.
- Christian Fellowship / Mutual Edification — background to 4:12-20 and ch. 6 pastoral material.

Critical Risk Doctrines
Crucified with Christ
Bengali name: খ্রীষ্টের সাথে ক্রুশারোপণ
Key terms: crucified with Christ, gave himself for me, I no longer live, Christ lives in me, boast in the cross
Review routing: Human theologian
খ্রীষ্টের সাথে ক্রুশারোপিত হওয়া must retain (a) a completed-past-with-continuing-present-effect force, (b) real union with Christ’s own death rather than imitation, and (c) must not be confused with Hindu/Sufi ascetic self-mortification or fana/self-annihilation mysticism, both live devotional categories in Bengal that could be imported onto this forensic-and-relational death-with-Christ.
Faith Working through Love
Bengali name: প্রেমের মাধ্যমে কার্যকর বিশ্বাস
Key terms: faith working through love, love (agape), circumcision, uncircumcision
Review routing: Human theologian
প্রেম, the established Bengali Christian rendering of ἀγάπη, is also the central devotional term of Bengal’s Vaishnava bhakti tradition (the Chaitanya movement), denoting the romantic-mystical love between Radha and Krishna celebrated in Bengali poetry and kirtan song; without contextual anchoring (e.g., ‘নিজকে বিলিয়ে দেওয়া প্রেম’), a Bengali reader may import this erotic-devotional frame rather than Paul’s self-giving, others-oriented, active love.
Justification by Faith
Bengali name: বিশ্বাসের দ্বারা ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া
Key terms: justified, works of the law, faith, righteousness
Review routing: Human theologian
The letter’s thesis (2:16) turns on ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া and ব্যবস্থার কার্য, repeated three times in one verse; ধর্ম must never substitute for ধার্মিকতা, since ধর্ম collapses right-standing-before-God into mere religious-community membership (হিন্দু ধর্ম, ইসলাম ধর্ম), exactly the confusion Paul refutes when he insists no one is justified by works of the law.
Law and Grace
Bengali name: ব্যবস্থা ও অনুগ্রহ
Key terms: law, grace, nullify grace, Judaize, law of Christ
Review routing: Human theologian
The letter repeatedly sets ব্যবস্থা (law) against অনুগ্রহ (grace) as mutually exclusive bases of righteousness; this contrast must be preserved with special care at 6:2’s ‘law of Christ’ (খ্রীষ্টের ব্যবস্থা), where ব্যবস্থা is reused in a deliberately different sense (Christ’s love-ethic, not Mosaic law), risking an apparent self-contradiction if not flagged.
The True Gospel versus False Gospels
Bengali name: সত্য সুসমাচার বনাম মিথ্যা সুসমাচার
Key terms: gospel, another gospel, accursed/anathema, bewitched
Review routing: Human theologian
Paul’s ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον distinction (a gospel different in kind, not a variant of the same true gospel) is easily flattened in Bengali, which lacks a single-word equivalent for ἕτερος vs. ἄλλος; without an explanatory clause, ভিন্ন সুসমাচার could be misread as merely a competing denomination’s version of the same good news rather than a counterfeit that is not truly সুসমাচার at all.
High Risk Doctrines
The Abrahamic Covenant and Promise
Bengali name: অব্রাহামীয় নিয়ম ও প্রতিশ্রুতি
Key terms: Abraham, promise, seed of Abraham, covenant, blessing of Abraham
Review routing: Human theologian
Abraham (অব্রাহাম) must never be rendered ইব্রাহিম, the Qur’anic-idiom form venerated as patriarch of the Arab peoples through Ishmael; Galatians’ argument depends specifically on the promise-line through Isaac (typologically fulfilled in Christ), and the Hagar/Sarah allegory (4:21-31) additionally risks sounding, to a Muslim-background reader, like a judgment on Ishmael’s lineage rather than Paul’s actual point about two ways of relating to God.
Adoption and Sonship
Bengali name: দত্তকপুত্রতা ও পুত্রত্ব
Key terms: adoption, Abba, Father, sons of God, heir, no longer a slave but a son
Review routing: Human theologian
Believers’ derived sonship (ঈশ্বরের সন্তান/পুত্র বিশ্বাসের মাধ্যমে) must be clearly distinguished, wherever it appears near Christ’s own title, from ঈশ্বরের পুত্র used exclusively for Christ’s unique, eternal Sonship; দত্তকপুত্রতা must also retain full-inheritance-rights status against the Bengali family-custom assumption that an adopted child may hold reduced or provisional standing relative to a biological heir.
Circumcision and the New Creation
Bengali name: ত্বকচ্ছেদ ও নতুন সৃষ্টি
Key terms: circumcision, uncircumcision, new creation, compel to be circumcised
Review routing: Human theologian
Circumcision must be rendered ত্বকচ্ছেদ, never সুন্নত, the Arabic-derived colloquial Bengali term specifically tied to the Islamic religious rite and its sunnah-obedience framework; using সুন্নত here would import an Islamic legal-religious obligation directly into the precise verses where Paul denies that any physical rite is salvifically necessary.
Flesh versus Spirit
Bengali name: মাংস বনাম আত্মা
Key terms: flesh (moral sense), walk by the Spirit, works of the flesh, sorcery
Review routing: Human theologian
মাংস, the established Bengali Bible term for σάρξ in this moral-theological sense, is also the everyday word for ‘meat’ (food), an unusually loaded choice in Bengali religious discourse given dietary-purity concerns in both Hindu vegetarian culture and Islamic halal law; a translator’s note distinguishing this fallen-nature sense from literal meat and from mere embodiment is required at first occurrence in the chapter.
Freedom in Christ
Bengali name: খ্রীষ্টে স্বাধীনতা
Key terms: freedom, slavery/yoke of slavery, walk by the Spirit
Review routing: Native speaker review
স্বাধীনতা avoids the baseline’s forbidden মুক্তি (Hindu moksha/rebirth-liberation), but is itself the standard Bengali word for national political independence (বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা, the 1971 Independence War); without consistent qualification such as ‘খ্রীষ্টে স্বাধীনতা,’ the term risks being read in a nationalist-political register rather than Paul’s spiritual-covenantal one.
The Law’s Purpose
Bengali name: ব্যবস্থার উদ্দেশ্য
Key terms: mediator, guardian/disciplinarian, curse of the law, elemental spirits of the world, redeemed
Review routing: Human theologian
The law’s temporary, custodial role (অভিভাবক) and the contested ‘elemental things of the world’ phrase at 4:3, 9 must never be rendered with শক্তি, already forbidden in the baseline due to its unusually strong Shakta goddess-power association in Bengal; a শক্তি-based rendering risks being heard as naming literal folk-animist or tantric spirit-forces rather than Paul’s point that both law-slavery and idol-slavery are superseded systems.
Unity of Jews and Gentiles
Bengali name: ইহুদি ও পরজাতিদের একতা
Key terms: Judaize, neither Jew nor Greek, Israel of God, gentiles
Review routing: Human theologian
The ‘neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female’ formula (3:28) directly challenges caste-adjacent social hierarchy and gender-status structures still salient in both Hindu-majority West Bengal and Muslim-majority Bangladesh; it must be rendered with full social-leveling force, and ‘ঈশ্বরের ইস্রায়েল’ (Israel of God, 6:16) must be flagged as a theological, not contemporary-geopolitical, designation given the term’s ongoing political sensitivity.
Medium Risk Doctrines
Bearing One Another’s Burdens
Bengali name: একে অপরের ভার বহন
Key terms: bear one another’s burdens, law of Christ, sow and reap
Review routing: Native speaker review
Low risk attaches to ‘bear one another’s burdens’ itself, but the adjacent ‘sow and reap’ proverb (6:7) carries a real collision risk with the widespread Bengali/South Asian karma-proverb ‘যেমন কর্ম তেমন ফল’; a translator’s note anchoring the sowing explicitly to the Spirit/flesh framework of 6:8, rather than an impersonal cosmic law, is recommended wherever the two verses are treated together.
Fruit of the Spirit
Bengali name: আত্মার ফল
Key terms: fruit of the Spirit, love (agape)
Review routing: Native speaker review
আত্মার ফল should be kept grammatically singular in Bengali (as in Greek) to preserve Paul’s contrast between one unified organic fruit and the plural, disconnected ‘works of the flesh’; the first-listed quality, প্রেম (love), carries the separate Critical-level Vaishnava bhakti collision risk documented under Faith Working through Love.
Paul’s Apostleship
Bengali name: পৌলের প্রেরিতত্ব
Key terms: apostle, revelation, persecute, pillars
Review routing: Native speaker review
Paul’s claim to direct divine commissioning (প্রত্যাদেশ) rather than human appointment must be distinguished from the Islamic doctrine of waḥy (verbatim scriptural dictation, especially to Muhammad); Paul describes personal disclosure of an already-fulfilled gospel event, not the giving of a new scripture-text.
