Linguistic Gap Analysis

06 Linguistic Gap Analysis — Galatians (English ↔ Koine Greek ↔ Bengali)

Purpose and Method

This analysis identifies where existing Bengali Christian vocabulary (fixed in the Romans baseline translation_memory.json and bible_term_registry.json) is sufficient for Galatians, where it is insufficient and new coinage or paraphrase is required, and where semantic neighborhoods in Bengali are “crowded” — i.e., a single Bengali word is claimed by multiple, doctrinally incompatible source concepts (Hindu, Muslim, and secular-nationalist) and must be fenced with translator notes, qualifying phrases, or a deliberately different rendering than a naive translator would choose.

Method: every verse of Galatians 1–6 was reviewed against (a) the 14 curriculum doctrines, (b) the Romans baseline glossary, and (c) known collision categories already documented for Bengali in the baseline (Hindu Shakta/Vedantic/bhakti vocabulary, Islamic-idiom vocabulary, and Bangladeshi political-nationalist vocabulary). This document is the analytical foundation for the Core Glossary (Step 08) and Term Registry entries already drafted; all Bengali renderings below are therefore already consistent with those downstream artifacts, and this document supplies the reasoning trail required for theologian sign-off.

Full-book coverage note: Galatians has only six chapters; all six are treated below, either in the doctrine matrix, the chapter-coverage table (Section F), or both. No chapter is silently skipped.

A. Doctrine Vocabulary Matrix

Curriculum DoctrineAvailable Bengali Term(s)Weaknesses / Gaps in Existing VocabularyRecommended Strategy
Justification by Faithধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া (justification, REUSED Critical), ধার্মিকতা (righteousness, REUSED Critical), ব্যবস্থার কার্য (works of the law, NEW Critical)Bengali has no native single word for the forensic “declared righteous” act; the Romans-baseline compound already solves this, but Galatians sharpens the antithesis by naming the rejected alternative (ব্যবস্থার কার্য) explicitly, which Romans never needed to name as precisely. Risk: translators may collapse ব্যবস্থার কার্য into generic সৎকর্ম (“good deeds”), erasing Paul’s specific target.Reuse Romans terms exactly; add ব্যবস্থার কার্য as a new Critical-risk fenced term; mandatory translator note on first occurrence (2:16) distinguishing Mosaic-identity-marker observance from general morality.
The True Gospel versus False Gospelsসুসমাচার (REUSED High), ভিন্ন সুসমাচার (NEW Critical), অভিশপ্ত হোক (NEW High)Bengali adjectives for “different” (ভিন্ন, আলাদা, অন্য) do not distinguish Greek ἕτερος (different in kind) from ἄλλος (another of the same kind), a distinction the whole polemic of ch.1 depends on.Render ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον as ভিন্ন সুসমাচার plus an explanatory clause (“যা প্রকৃতপক্ষে সুসমাচারই নয়”) rather than a bare adjective, so the “not really gospel at all” force is not lost.
Paul’s Apostleshipপ্রেরিত (REUSED Medium), প্রত্যাদেশ (NEW High)No gap in “apostle” itself. The gap is in “revelation”: Bengali প্রকাশ (disclosure) is too weak/generic, while any term echoing Islamic waḥy (revelation dictated word-for-word to a prophet) would wrongly imply Paul is claiming a new scripture-dictation rather than personal disclosure of an already-accomplished gospel event.Use প্রত্যাদেশ, distinct from প্রকাশ; add mandatory theologian note distinguishing from waḥy at first occurrence (1:12).
Law and Graceব্যবস্থা (REUSED High), অনুগ্রহ (REUSED High), বাতিল করা (NEW High), ইহুদীদের রীতিতে জীবনযাপনে বাধ্য করা (“Judaize,” NEW High)No single Bengali verb captures “nullify/render legally invalid” (ἀθετέω) as opposed to merely “ignore”; risk of flattening Paul’s covenantal-legal argument (2:21) into a vague emotional statement. Also, “Judaize” has no Bengali lexical equivalent at all — it must be paraphrased.Use বাতিল করা / অগ্রাহ্য করা with legal-covenantal framing; render “Judaize” as a full descriptive clause rather than forcing a single coined word.
Crucified with Christখ্রীষ্টের সাথে ক্রুশারোপিত হওয়া (NEW Critical), (আমার/আমাদের) জন্য আপনাকে সমর্পণ করলেন (NEW Critical)Bengali has no ready equivalent for the Greek perfect-tense force of συνεσταύρωμαι (a past event with continuing present effect); a literal past-tense verb risks being read as a one-time completed memory rather than a present identity-defining reality. Compounding this, Bengali readers have two ready but wrong interpretive grids: Hindu/Jain ascetic self-mortification and Sufi fana (self-annihilation) mysticism.Use the fixed compound খ্রীষ্টের সাথে ক্রুশারোপিত হওয়া with a grammatical note recommending a present-perfect-equivalent construction (e.g., ”…হয়েছি” rather than simple past) and a mandatory theologian note distancing this from ascetic self-mortification.
The Abrahamic Covenant and Promiseঅব্রাহাম (NEW Medium), প্রতিশ্রুতি (NEW High), নিয়ম (REUSED High), বংশ (NEW High)বংশ is a collective noun in Bengali and cannot carry Paul’s singular/plural Greek wordplay on σπέρμα at 3:16 (arguing the “seed” is one person, Christ, not merely a collective lineage). This is a genuine structural gap, not a terminology-choice problem.Retain বংশ (no better native alternative exists) but require a mandatory translator’s note at 3:16 explaining the singular-referent argument explicitly, since the grammar cannot carry it unaided.
The Law’s Purposeমধ্যস্থ (NEW Medium), অভিভাবক (NEW Medium), জগতের প্রাথমিক নিয়মকানুন (NEW Critical)στοιχεῖα τοῦ κόσμου is contested even in Greek scholarship; Bengali offers no term threading between “elementary principles” and “cosmic powers” without triggering strong folk-animist/Shakta associations if শক্তি-based vocabulary is used. অভিভাবক (guardian) risks being read as a permanent parental role rather than a temporary custodial one.Use জগতের প্রাথমিক নিয়মকানুন, escalate every occurrence to theologian review with an explanatory note on the contested exegesis; qualify অভিভাবক with “সাময়িক” (temporary) at first occurrence.
Adoption and Sonshipদত্তকপুত্রতা (REUSED High), আব্বা (REUSED Medium), উত্তরাধিকারী (NEW Medium), ঈশ্বরের সন্তান/পুত্র বিশ্বাসের মাধ্যমে (NEW High)Traditional Bengali joint-family inheritance custom can subtly imply an adopted child’s claim is secondary to a biological heir’s; Galatians’ argument (3:26–4:7) depends on full equality of standing. Separately, “sons of God” (believers) and “Son of God” (Christ, ঈশ্বরের পুত্র) sit dangerously close in Bengali when both appear in the same passage (3:26 vs. established Christological usage).Reuse দত্তকপুত্রতা/উত্তরাধিকারী exactly as fixed; mandatory disambiguation note wherever ঈশ্বরের সন্তান/পুত্র (believers) occurs near ঈশ্বরের পুত্র (Christ) to prevent conflation of adoptive and eternal sonship.
Freedom in Christস্বাধীনতা (NEW High), দাসত্ব / দাসত্বের যোয়াল (NEW Medium)স্বাধীনতা is saturated in Bengali public discourse with the 1971 Bangladeshi War of Independence (বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা); an unqualified use risks a nationalist-political reading rather than Paul’s spiritual-legal freedom from the law’s condemning power. মুক্তি, the more “liberation”-flavored alternative, is permanently forbidden per the baseline (Hindu moksha/rebirth-liberation collision).Use স্বাধীনতা but require the qualifying phrase “খ্রীষ্টে স্বাধীনতা” (freedom in Christ) at first occurrence in every chapter it recurs (2:4; 5:1, 13), to anchor the referent before the political association can take over.
Circumcision and the New Creationত্বকচ্ছেদ (NEW High), অত্বকচ্ছেদ (NEW Medium), নতুন সৃষ্টি (NEW Medium)The natural colloquial Bengali word for circumcision, সুন্নত, is specifically the Arabic-derived term for the Islamic religious rite (linked to sunnah and popular Ibrahim-piety); using it would import an Islamic legal-religious obligation framework at precisely the point Paul argues against treating any rite as salvifically necessary. সৃষ্টি also carries Hindu cyclical-cosmology (সৃষ্টি-স্থিতি-প্রলয়) resonance.Use ত্বকচ্ছেদ (the older, religiously neutral Bengali Bible term) exclusively, never সুন্নত; escalate every occurrence to theologian review. Anchor নতুন সৃষ্টি to linear once-for-all renewal with a brief note distinguishing it from cyclical dissolution-and-recreation.
Flesh versus Spiritমাংস (NEW High, three distinct senses — see Section C), পবিত্র আত্মা (REUSED Critical), মাংসের কার্য (NEW Medium)σάρξ carries at least three distinct senses across Galatians (moral-anthropological “sinful nature,” Hebraic idiom for “humanity,” and neutral “physical body”), and Bengali মাংস additionally means literal “meat,” a live category in both Hindu dietary-purity culture and Islamic halal law. This is the single most crowded semantic neighborhood in the letter.Retain established মাংস for the moral-theological sense (consistency with wider Bengali Bible corpus), but require per-occurrence sense-tagging (see Section C) and a first-occurrence translator’s note distinguishing all three senses plus the literal-meat sense.
Fruit of the Spiritআত্মার ফল (NEW Medium)No major lexical gap; the only risk is grammatical — Bengali ফল can be pluralized informally in speech, which would blur Paul’s deliberate grammatical singular (one unified fruit, nine facets) against the plural মাংসের কার্য (works of the flesh, plural).Keep ফল grammatically singular in all written renderings; flag any drafted plural form (ফলগুলি) for correction.
Faith Working through Loveপ্রেমের মাধ্যমে কার্যকর বিশ্বাস (NEW High), প্রেম (NEW Critical), বিশ্বাস (REUSED High)প্রেম is the central devotional term of Bengal’s Vaishnava bhakti tradition (Radha-Krishna romantic-mystical love, celebrated in kirtan and Bengali devotional poetry); an unglossed use risks importing an erotic-mystical register into Paul’s self-giving, ethically active love.Retain প্রেম (already the established Bengali Christian Bible term, e.g. ঈশ্বর প্রেম) but require contextual glossing at load-bearing occurrences (5:6, 13-14, 22) such as “নিজেকে বিলিয়ে দেওয়া প্রেম” (self-giving love) to fence off the bhakti association.
Bearing One Another’s Burdensএকে অপরের ভার বহন কর (NEW Low), খ্রীষ্টের ব্যবস্থা (NEW High)Low risk for the burden-bearing phrase itself. The real risk sits in খ্রীষ্টের ব্যবস্থা (“law of Christ”), which reuses ব্যবস্থা — the very word Paul spent five chapters arguing cannot justify anyone — in a positive sense at 6:2. Without flagging, a Bengali reader could conclude Paul contradicts himself.Mandatory translator note at 6:2 clarifying that this occurrence names Christ’s love-ethic, not a reintroduced Mosaic-law righteousness-system.

B. Missing Vocabulary Requiring New Coinage or Paraphrase (No Romans-Baseline Precedent)

Galatians introduces argumentation not present in Romans’ scope, generating terms with no baseline precedent at all. These require phrase-level (not single-word) solutions:

ConceptWhy No Existing Term SufficesBengali Solution
Works of the law (ἔργα νόμου)Romans discusses “works” (ἔργα) generally but Galatians needs the precise Mosaic-identity-marker sense sharply distinguished from general good deeds.Compound phrase ব্যবস্থার কার্য (law + works), never abbreviated to সৎকর্ম.
Judaize (Ἰουδαΐζειν)No Bengali verb exists for “to adopt Jewish covenant-identity practice as a condition of belonging.”Full descriptive clause: ইহুদীদের রীতিতে জীবনযাপনে বাধ্য করা.
Elemental spirits/things of the world (στοιχεῖα τοῦ κόσμου)Contested even in the source language; no Bengali term threads between “elementary principle” and “cosmic power” without triggering folk-animist associations.Descriptive phrase জগতের প্রাথমিক নিয়মকানুন with mandatory exegetical footnote.
Guardian/paidagōgos (a slave-tutor role obsolete in Bengali social experience)Bengali has no living social role directly equivalent to a Greco-Roman slave-escort-disciplinarian.Use অভিভাবক (guardian) qualified as সাময়িক অভিভাবক (temporary guardian) to avoid implying a permanent parental office.
Ἕτερον vs. ἄλλον gospel distinctionBengali adjectives for “different/another” do not lexically distinguish “different in kind” from “another instance of the same kind.”Explanatory clause appended to ভিন্ন সুসমাচার rather than relying on the adjective alone.
Mediator (μεσίτης) as a named officeBengali মধ্যস্থতা already denotes the act of intercession (baseline); Galatians 3:19-20 needs the person.Coin মধ্যস্থ (the mediating person) as a distinct new entry, explicitly separated from মধ্যস্থতা.
”Christ died for nothing” reductio (δωρεὰν ἀπέθανεν)No idiomatic single Bengali word carries both “for free/without cause” and “in vain, pointlessly” simultaneously with full rhetorical force.বৃথাই মরলেন — chosen for its strong “utterly pointless” register in spoken/written Bengali; must not be softened to a merely regretful tone.

C. Crowded Semantic Neighborhoods Requiring Fencing

These are Bengali words already carrying strong, doctrinally incompatible meanings from Hindu, Muslim, or secular-nationalist source domains, which Galatians’ argument forces into direct contact with Christian theological content more intensely than Romans did.

1. মাংস (sarx / “flesh”) — three-way collision

  • Sense 1 (moral-anthropological, 5:13, 16-17, 19, 24; 6:8): the fallen self opposing the Spirit. Rendered মাংস per Bengali Bible tradition.
  • Sense 2 (Hebraic idiom for humanity, 2:16 — πᾶσα σάρξ): “no human being.” Rendered idiomatically as কোনো মানুষ, NOT literally, to avoid a dietary/bodily misreading.
  • Sense 3 (neutral physical embodiment, 2:20): Paul’s ordinary bodily life lived by faith. Rendered দেহে/মাংসে.
  • Collision risk: Bengali মাংস’s primary everyday meaning is literal “meat” — a live theological category in Hindu vegetarian-purity practice and Islamic halal law. A reader could import dietary-purity categories into a passage about moral nature.
  • Fencing strategy: first-occurrence translator’s note distinguishing all three senses plus the literal-meat sense; per-occurrence sense-tagging carried through Phase 2 segment metadata.

2. স্বাধীনতা vs. মুক্তি (“freedom”) — political/religious collision

  • মুক্তি is permanently forbidden (Hindu moksha/rebirth-liberation, per baseline “salvation” entry).
  • স্বাধীনতা avoids that specific collision but is saturated with Bangladesh’s 1971 independence-movement register.
  • Fencing strategy: consistent qualifying phrase “খ্রীষ্টে স্বাধীনতা” at every recurrence (2:4; 5:1, 13); flag for native-speaker review to confirm the qualifier is not perceived as awkward or redundant in flowing text.

3. ত্বকচ্ছেদ vs. সুন্নত (“circumcision”) — Islamic-idiom collision

  • সুন্নত carries the specific Islamic legal-religious sense (linked to sunnah observance and popular Ibrahim-piety).
  • Fencing strategy: ত্বকচ্ছেদ only, no exceptions; escalate every occurrence (nine total across 2:3; 5:2-3, 6, 11; 6:12-13, 15) to theologian review given the letter’s argument depends entirely on this term’s non-necessity for salvation — precisely the opposite of its charged connotation in Islamic contexts.

4. অভিশাপ (“curse”) — folk-magical/karmic collision

  • Bengali অভিশাপ covers a covenantal-legal curse (Deut 27:26, in view at 3:10, 13) AND a folk-religious curse (a sage’s or deity’s curse in Hindu epic narrative; an evil spirit’s curse in folk belief).
  • Fencing strategy: always pair with ব্যবস্থার (of the law) — ব্যবস্থার অভিশাপ — never the bare noun alone in doctrinal contexts; contextual anchoring to the Deuteronomy citation recommended in teaching notes.

5. প্রেম (“love,” agapē) — Vaishnava bhakti collision

  • প্রেম is the central devotional term of Bengal’s Chaitanya/Vaishnava tradition, denoting Radha-Krishna’s romantic-mystical love, richly present in Bengali kirtan and poetry.
  • Fencing strategy: retain প্রেম (established Bengali Christian usage) but require contextual glossing (“নিজেকে বিলিয়ে দেওয়া প্রেম”) at 5:6, 13-14, 22 — the letter’s doctrinally load-bearing occurrences.

6. যুগ (“age,” as in “present evil age,” 1:4) — cyclical-cosmology collision

  • যুগ is the standard Bengali word for the four Hindu cosmological ages (Satya, Treta, Dwapara, Kali Yuga), an inherently cyclical framework.
  • Fencing strategy: qualify as এই বর্তমান মন্দ যুগ and flag for native-speaker review to ensure Paul’s linear two-age (present evil age / age to come) eschatology is not read through a cyclical Yuga lens.

7. গর্ব (“boast,” 6:13-14) — negative-register collision

  • গর্ব ordinarily denotes pride/arrogance in Bengali, a vice, not a virtue.
  • Fencing strategy: translator’s note at 6:14 clarifying Paul’s deliberate redirection of an ordinarily negative word into legitimate glorying, exclusively in the cross — contrasted explicitly with the Judaizers’ illegitimate self-glorying in the flesh (6:13).

8. সৃষ্টি (“creation,” in “new creation,” 6:15) — cyclical-cosmology collision (secondary instance)

  • Same root risk as যুগ: সৃষ্টি-স্থিতি-প্রলয় (creation-preservation-dissolution) is a standing Hindu cosmological cycle.
  • Fencing strategy: light translator’s note anchoring নতুন সৃষ্টি to a once-for-all, linear renewal inaugurated in Christ, not a repeating cosmic cycle.

D. Transliteration vs. Paraphrase Decisions

Term/NameDecisionRationale
আব্বা (Abba, 4:6)Transliterate, preserve AramaicAlready fixed in Romans baseline; Bengali Muslim readers also use আব্বা as an everyday word for “father,” giving the term unusual, welcome warmth rather than requiring explanation as foreign.
খ্রীষ্ট (Christ)Transliterate/established form, never মশীহ or মসীহEstablished curriculum standard; মশীহ is the Bengali-Muslim-shared transliteration implying a shared theology (denial of divinity/crucifixion/resurrection) that does not exist.
অব্রাহাম (Abraham)Transliterate established Christian form, never ইব্রাহিমইব্রাহিম is the Qur’anic-idiom form venerated as patriarch of the Arab peoples through Ishmael; Galatians’ typological argument runs specifically through Isaac and requires the Bengali Bible’s own established form.
হাগার / সারা (Hagar/Sarah)Transliterate, established Bengali Bible proper-name formsLow risk in the names themselves; risk is entirely at the allegory-framing level (see Section E, item 4), addressed by mandatory theologian note rather than by altering the name forms.
অভিশপ্ত হোক (anathema)Paraphrase (functional-equivalent phrase), not transliteration of ἀνάθεμαA transliterated “অনাথিমা” would be opaque to ordinary readers; the functional covenant-curse phrase preserves rhetorical force for a general audience. Retain transliteration only as a footnoted option in specialist/seminary editions.
জগতের প্রাথমিক নিয়মকানুন (stoicheia)Paraphrase, not transliteration or single-word coinageThe term’s contested sense in Greek scholarship itself argues against fixing a single opaque Bengali word; a descriptive phrase allows the accompanying explanatory note to carry the necessary nuance.
ব্যবস্থার কার্য (works of the law)Paraphrase/compound, not single-word coinageNo single Bengali word carries “Mosaic ritual/identity-marker observance treated as a righteousness-basis”; the compound preserves both the established ব্যবস্থা root and the specific “works” qualifier.
ইহুদীদের রীতিতে জীবনযাপনে বাধ্য করা (Judaize)Full descriptive clause, not a coined single verbCoining an artificial Bengali verb for “Judaize” would be unintelligible without extensive gloss; a plain descriptive clause communicates the practical controversy immediately.
যা বপন করে মানুষ তাই কাটবে (sow and reap, 6:7)Paraphrase using ordinary agricultural vocabulary, not a technical coinageThe idiom must sound proverb-like in Bengali to land rhetorically, but this exact proverbial register is what risks collapsing it into the pre-existing Bengali/South Asian karma-proverb যেমন কর্ম তেমন ফল — mitigated by a mandatory note anchoring it to the flesh/Spirit framework of 6:8, not impersonal karma.
স্তম্ভ (pillars, 2:9)Direct translation (standard architectural metaphor), no transliteration neededLow risk; the metaphor transfers cleanly into Bengali without collision.

E. Ranked List of Galatians’ Highest-Risk Ambiguities

Ranked by combined severity (doctrinal centrality × likelihood of Bengali-cultural misreading), for Phase 2 review-routing priority.

  1. ব্যবস্থার মাধ্যমে ধার্মিকতা / righteousness through the law (2:21) — Critical. Sits at the exact intersection of the baseline’s absolute ধর্ম prohibition and the letter’s central either/or; the single collocation most capable of collapsing Galatians’ entire argument if mistranslated. Core-passage-adjacent (2:15-21).
  2. খ্রীষ্টের সাথে ক্রুশারোপিত হওয়া / crucified with Christ (2:19-20; core passage) — Critical. High likelihood of default misreading through Hindu ascetic self-mortification or Sufi fana self-annihilation categories rather than forensic-and-relational union with Christ’s death.
  3. ব্যবস্থার কার্য / works of the law (2:16, core passage; 3:2, 5, 10) — Critical. Governs the entire doctrine of Justification by Faith; risk of flattening into generic “good deeds,” which would blunt Paul’s specific critique and inadvertently soften the parallel challenge to Islamic weighed-deeds soteriology and Hindu merit-accumulation.
  4. খ্রীষ্ট বৃথাই মরলেন / Christ died for nothing (2:21, core passage) — Critical. The letter’s rhetorical climax up to this point; any softening of tone loses Paul’s reductio ad absurdum force entirely.
  5. মাংস / sarx’s three senses (throughout, esp. 2:16, 20; 5:13-24) — High. The single most crowded semantic neighborhood in the letter; a translator who fails to sense-tag each occurrence risks conflating universal humanity, neutral embodiment, and fallen moral nature into one flattened meaning, compounded by মাংস’s everyday “meat” sense.
  6. ভিন্ন সুসমাচার / another gospel (1:6-9) — Critical. The ἕτερος/ἄλλος distinction is structurally unrecoverable from Bengali adjectives alone; without the mandatory explanatory clause, readers may hear “a somewhat different gospel” rather than “not gospel at all.”
  7. হাগার/সারা allegory framing (4:21-31) — High (doctrinal-framing level). Ishmael’s veneration in Islamic tradition as patriarch of the Arab peoples makes this allegory’s rhetorical framing a live pastoral risk for Muslim-background readers if presented without care; mandatory theologian note required, not merely a lexical fix.
  8. জগতের প্রাথমিক নিয়মকানুন / elemental spirits (4:3, 9) — Critical. Contested even in Greek scholarship, and Bengali’s most natural candidate vocabulary (শক্তি-rooted terms) is independently forbidden by the baseline for its Shakta goddess-power association — a double constraint with no fully comfortable solution, requiring per-occurrence theologian judgment.
  9. স্বাধীনতা / freedom in Christ (2:4; 5:1, 13) — High. Near-certain default political reading (Bangladeshi independence) without the qualifying phrase; the doctrine’s very name (“Freedom in Christ”) makes this collision unavoidable across the whole curriculum module, not just isolated verses.
  10. ত্বকচ্ছেদ vs. সুন্নত / circumcision (2:3; 5:2-3, 6, 11; 6:12-13, 15) — High, high-frequency. Nine occurrences across the letter; consistent avoidance of the Islamic-idiom term is a sustained discipline requirement across all six chapters, not a single-verse fix.
  11. প্রেম / agapē (5:6, 13-14, 22) — Critical (cultural-collision, not doctrinal-content risk). Bengal’s Vaishnava bhakti tradition gives প্রেম an entrenched romantic-devotional register; without contextual glossing, “faith working through love” risks a devotional-romantic misreading foreign to Paul’s ethical self-giving sense.
  12. খ্রীষ্টের ব্যবস্থা / law of Christ (6:2) — High. Reuses, in an apparently positive sense, the very term (ব্যবস্থা) the letter spent chapters 2-5 arguing cannot justify anyone; without a note, a careful reader may conclude Paul contradicts himself at the letter’s close.
  13. যা বপন করে মানুষ তাই কাটবে / sow and reap (6:7-9) — High. Its proverb-like register is functionally identical in surface form to the pre-existing Bengali/South Asian karma-proverb, risking a slide from Paul’s personal-God moral-consequence framework into impersonal karmic fatalism.
  14. এই বর্তমান মন্দ যুগ / present evil age (1:4) — Medium-High. Early in the letter (easy to under-flag), but যুগ’s cyclical-cosmology freight risks miscalibrating the reader’s eschatological frame for the rest of the letter if left unaddressed at first occurrence.
  15. উত্তরাধিকারী / heir and দত্তকপুত্রতা / adoption interplay (3:29; 4:1-7) — High. Traditional Bengali joint-family inheritance custom can subtly suggest an adopted heir’s claim is secondary to a biological heir’s, cutting against Paul’s point of full and equal inheritance rights; requires the doctrines of Adoption and “seed of Abraham” to be taught together, not in isolation.

F. Full-Book Chapter Coverage Log

ChapterNew/Load-Bearing Terms IntroducedReviewed Status
Galatians 1সুসমাচার (reused), ভিন্ন সুসমাচার, অভিশপ্ত হোক, প্রত্যাদেশ, তাড়না করা, এই বর্তমান মন্দ যুগReviewed — contributes major new Critical/High terms (gospel-integrity vocabulary, apostleship).
Reviewed — contains the core passage (2:15-21) and the letter’s highest concentration of Critical-risk terms; anchor chapter for the entire analysis.

Galatians 4দত্তকপুত্রতা (reused), আব্বা (reused), উত্তরাধিকারী, হাগার/সারা, ঊর্ধ্বস্থ জেরুশালেম, তাড়না করা (recurs)Reviewed — Adoption/Sonship doctrine and the allegory-framing pastoral risk both concentrated here.
Galatians 5স্বাধীনতা (recurs), দাসত্ব/দাসত্বের যোয়াল, ত্বকচ্ছেদ (recurs), অত্বকচ্ছেদ, প্রেমের মাধ্যমে কার্যকর বিশ্বাস, প্রেম, মাংস (moral sense), মাংসের কার্য, আত্মার ফল, মায়াবিদ্যা/তুকতাক/জাদুবিদ্যাReviewed — Freedom in Christ, Flesh versus Spirit, Fruit of the Spirit, and Faith Working through Love doctrines concentrated here.
Galatians 6খ্রীষ্টের ব্যবস্থা, একে অপরের ভার বহন কর, যা বপন করে মানুষ তাই কাটবে, নতুন সৃষ্টি, গর্ব করা, যীশুর চিহ্ন, ঈশ্বরের ইস্রায়েলReviewed — Bearing One Another’s Burdens doctrine and the letter’s closing recapitulation (new creation, boasting) concentrated here.

No chapter of Galatians was found to contribute zero new terminology; all six chapters carry doctrinally load-bearing vocabulary requiring Phase 1 analysis, consistent with the density of this letter’s polemical argument.

G. Recommendations for Phase 2 Handoff

  1. Load the Romans baseline translation_memory.json first; layer the Galatians-specific new entries (Section B, and the fuller set in the Core Glossary, Step 08) on top without modification to any existing baseline entry.
  2. Prioritize human theologian review for all fifteen items in the ranked ambiguity list (Section E) regardless of their nominal risk tier in the term registry, since several (e.g., the Hagar/Sarah allegory framing, the elemental-spirits phrase) carry contextual/pastoral risk beyond what a single risk label communicates.
  3. Require per-occurrence sense-tagging for মাংস (sarx) in the Phase 2 segment cache, recording which of the three senses is active, so back-translation reviewers can verify consistency.
  4. Enforce the crowded-neighborhood fencing strategies (Section C) as mandatory qualifying phrases, not optional stylistic choices — particularly স্বাধীনতা → “খ্রীষ্টে স্বাধীনতা” and ত্বকচ্ছেদ (never সুন্নত).
  5. Carry forward the doctrinal consistency principle already established for Romans 1:16-17, 8:28, and 10:9-10: fix identical Bengali renderings for প্রেমের মাধ্যমে কার্যকর বিশ্বাস (5:6) and the core passage’s ধার্মিক বলে গণ্য হওয়া (2:15-16) across every Galatians curriculum document.
