Core Glossary

08 — Core Glossary: 2 Thessalonians (English → Bengali)

Purpose

This glossary consolidates every load-bearing theological term identified in 07_semantic_analysis.md across the entire book of 2 Thessalonians. It is organized in two parts:

  • Part A lists terms already fixed by the Romans baseline translation_memory.json, which MUST be reused exactly and are not open for reconsideration in this curriculum.
  • Part B lists terms newly load-bearing in 2 Thessalonians, each carrying a proposed Bengali rendering, risk tier, and translation rationale for Phase 2 adoption into translation memory.

Risk tiers follow the baseline doctrine_risk_registry.json definitions exactly: Critical (human theologian review required, every occurrence), High (human theologian review required), Medium (native speaker review recommended), Low (automated review sufficient).

Forbidden substitutions (per baseline, apply identically in this curriculum): never মুক্তি/মোক্ষ/নাজাত for salvation; never ধর্ম for righteousness; never পুনর্জন্ম for resurrection; never অবতার for incarnation; never শক্তি for God’s power; never ঈসা for Jesus; never ভগবান/আল্লাহ for God; never সাধু/সাধুগণ for saints.

Part B — New Terms Introduced by 2 Thessalonians

B.1 The Day of the Lord

FieldValue
English termDay of the Lord
Originalἡ ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου (hē hēmera tou kyriou)
Bengali renderingপ্রভুর দিন
TransliterationProvur din
RiskCritical
DoctrineThe Day of the Lord
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:2
Rejected alternativesকিয়ামত (Qur’anic Judgment Day, tied to a distinct Islamic resurrection/weighed-deeds eschatology); যুগান্ত, কল্পান্ত (Hindu cyclical end-of-age/cosmic-dissolution terms)
NotesBuilt transparently on the already-established, doctrinally safe প্রভু (Lord). Must be rendered consistently whenever the phrase recurs in this curriculum and cross-referenced with other NT “Day of the Lord” passages if the curriculum expands.

B.2 The Man of Lawlessness

FieldValue
English termMan of Lawlessness
Originalὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας (ho anthrōpos tēs anomias)
Bengali renderingব্যবস্থাহীনতার মানুষ
TransliterationBebosthahinota’r manush
RiskCritical
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:3
Rejected alternativesঅধর্মের মানুষ (shares the ধর্ম root the baseline flags for conflating “religion” and righteousness); পাপপুরুষ (narrows “lawlessness” to generic “sin,” losing the covenant-rebellion nuance)
NotesCoined systematically on the baseline-established ব্যবস্থা (Mosaic Law/God’s law). Requires mandatory theologian review every occurrence, per baseline escalation rules for figures directly antithetical to Christ’s identity.

B.3 Lawlessness

FieldValue
English termLawlessness
Originalἀνομία (anomia)
Bengali renderingব্যবস্থাহীনতা
TransliterationBebosthahinota
RiskHigh
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:3, 2:7
Rejected alternativesঅধর্ম (shares the risky ধর্ম root)
NotesBase term underlying B.2, B.4 (“mystery of lawlessness”), and the substantival ব্যবস্থাহীন (the lawless one, 2:8). Must be used as a consistent word-family throughout.

B.4 Son of Destruction / Son of Perdition

FieldValue
English termSon of Destruction / Son of Perdition
Originalὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας (ho huios tēs apōleias)
Bengali renderingবিনাশের পুত্র
TransliterationBinasher putro
RiskCritical
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:3
Rejected alternativesNone proposed; the phrase-structure risk (echoing ঈশ্বরের পুত্র) is the primary concern, not lexical alternatives
NotesMandatory translator note required distinguishing this Hebraic “destined-for” idiom from any structural or ontological parallel to ঈশ্বরের পুত্র (Son of God, baseline Critical term). The two phrases must never be allowed to appear to share theological weight.

B.5 Apostasy / The Rebellion

FieldValue
English termApostasy / Rebellion
Originalἡ ἀποστασία (hē apostasia)
Bengali renderingবিশ্বাসত্যাগ
TransliterationBishwas-tyag
RiskHigh
DoctrineThe Day of the Lord / The Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:3
Rejected alternativesধর্মভ্রষ্টতা (shares the flagged ধর্ম root); বিদ্রোহ (too generic/political, loses the specifically religious-defection sense)
NotesBuilt cleanly on established বিশ্বাস (faith), preserving cross-curriculum lexical continuity: apostasy is the abandonment of the very বিশ্বাস central to Romans’ salvation vocabulary.

B.6 That Which Restrains / The Restrainer

FieldValue
English termThat Which Restrains / The Restrainer
Originalτὸ κατέχον (neuter, 2:6) / ὁ κατέχων (masculine, 2:7)
Bengali renderingনিবারক বিষয় (impersonal, v.6) / নিবারণকারী (personal, v.7)
TransliterationNibarok bishoy / Nibaronkari
RiskHigh
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness / Providence
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:6-7
Rejected alternativesA single undifferentiated term for both verses (would erase the significant neuter-to-masculine grammatical shift)
NotesRequires a mandatory translator note preserving BOTH (a) the genuine scholarly ambiguity about the restrainer’s identity, and (b) the grammatical shift from impersonal force to personal agent between v.6 and v.7, which Bengali does not mark automatically. Mandatory theologian review.

B.7 Mystery of Lawlessness

FieldValue
English termMystery of Lawlessness
Originalτὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας (to mystērion tēs anomias)
Bengali renderingব্যবস্থাহীনতার রহস্য
TransliterationBebosthahinota’r rohosyo
RiskHigh
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:7
Rejected alternativesনিগূঢ়তত্ত্ব (overly academic/philosophical register)
NotesPaul’s ironic reuse of “mystery” (elsewhere a positive revelatory term) for something evil should be flagged in a footnote so the reversal is not read as a scribal or translation error.

B.8 Parousia / The Coming (of Christ and, counterfeited, of the Lawless One)

FieldValue
English termComing / Parousia
Originalπαρουσία (parousia)
Bengali renderingআগমন
TransliterationAgomon
RiskCritical
DoctrineThe Day of the Lord / The Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:1, 2:8, 2:9
Rejected alternativesAny distinct/lesser term for the lawless one’s counterfeit “coming” (would erase Paul’s deliberate ironic lexical mirroring)
NotesThe SAME Bengali word must be used for both Christ’s true coming and Satan’s counterfeit coming; the distinction is carried by context and by qualifiers (ἐπιφάνεια/“appearing,” κατ’ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ/“according to Satan’s working”), not by switching the base noun.

B.9 Power / Might (Satan’s Counterfeit Power, Distinguished from God’s Power)

FieldValue
English termPower (Satan’s, counterfeit)
Originalδύναμις (dynamis, in 2:9, of Satan’s agent)
Bengali renderingপরাক্রম (qualified as প্রতারণামূলক পরাক্রম, “deceptive might”)
TransliterationPorakrom (protaronamulok porakrom)
RiskCritical
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness / Power of God (contrast)
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:9
Rejected alternativesসামর্থ্য (reserved by baseline convention exclusively for God’s genuine power; using it for Satan’s power would blur that firm distinction); শক্তি (forbidden per baseline for divine power generally, and here would additionally risk valorizing demonic power as authentic tantric-style spiritual শক্তি)
NotesThis entry deliberately extends the baseline’s “power_of_god” convention: সামর্থ্য is reserved exclusively for God’s true power throughout this curriculum; পরাক্রম, always qualified as counterfeit/deceptive, is introduced specifically for Satan’s derivative, subordinate, non-salvific power. Mandatory theologian review.

B.10 Working / Operation (energeia)

FieldValue
English termWorking / Operation
Originalἐνέργεια (energeia)
Bengali renderingকার্যকরতা
TransliterationKaryokorota
RiskHigh
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:9, 2:11
Rejected alternativesশক্তি (forbidden per baseline, shares Shakta-goddess resonance)
NotesUsed both for Satan’s active outworking (2:9) and for God’s judicial “working of delusion” (2:11, ἐνέργεια πλάνης, ভ্রান্তির কার্যকরতা) — same base noun, different agency, disambiguated by context and grammatical subject.

B.11 Eternal Destruction

FieldValue
English termEternal Destruction
Originalὄλεθρος αἰώνιος (olethros aiōnios)
Bengali renderingঅনন্ত বিনাশ
TransliterationOnonto binash
RiskCritical
DoctrineGod’s Righteous Judgment
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 1:9
Rejected alternativesপ্রলয় (proloy) — the standard Hindu term for cyclical cosmic dissolution (mahapralaya); reframes final, personal, one-time judgment as a recurring cosmic cycle event
NotesMust be paired consistently with established Bengali Christian অনন্ত (eternal, cf. eternal life traditions) to avoid any cyclical/recurring-destruction reading.

B.12 Vengeance / Righteous Retribution

FieldValue
English termVengeance / Retribution
Originalἐκδίκησις (ekdikēsis)
Bengali renderingপ্রতিফল
TransliterationProtiphol
RiskHigh
DoctrineGod’s Righteous Judgment
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 1:8
Rejected alternativesপ্রতিশোধ (revenge — too emotionally personal); বদলা (feud/vendetta-payback, carries Bengali social blood-feud connotations)
NotesMust read as God’s own judicial recompense, never as glorified human-style revenge or as validating a feud-payback social ethic.

B.13 Righteous Judgment

FieldValue
English termRighteous Judgment
Originalδίκαιον κρίμα / τὸ ἔνδικον (dikaion krima / to endikon)
Bengali renderingধার্মিক বিচার
TransliterationDharmik bichar
RiskCritical
DoctrineGod’s Righteous Judgment
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 1:5-6
Rejected alternativesন্যায্য বিচার (ন্যায় is a baseline-listed rejected alternative for the righteousness word-family; avoided here for cross-document consistency)
NotesBuilt directly on the baseline Critical term ধার্মিক/ধার্মিকতা (righteousness/justification family), reinforcing terminological continuity between Romans’ forensic-righteousness doctrine and 2 Thessalonians’ judgment doctrine.

B.14 Truth

FieldValue
English termTruth
Originalἀλήθεια (alētheia)
Bengali renderingসত্য
TransliterationShotyo
RiskHigh
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness / Faith
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:10, 2:12, 2:13
Rejected alternativesNone; standard Bengali term, low lexical ambiguity
NotesLoad-bearing because it structures the truth/lie antithesis running through 2:10-12; must render identically at every occurrence within this unit. New to translation memory (absent from Romans baseline registry though presupposed there).

B.15 Love (agapē)

FieldValue
English termLove
Originalἀγάπη (agapē)
Bengali renderingপ্রেম
TransliterationPrem
RiskHigh
DoctrinePerseverance under Persecution (context of 1:3) / general
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 1:3, 3:5
Rejected alternativesভালোবাসা (a viable, more neutral alternative, but departs from the historically stabilized Bengali Bible rendering)
Notesপ্রেম is retained as the historically established Bengali Bible term (per the same “stabilized despite non-Christian roots” reasoning the baseline applies to ঈশ্বর), despite its strong cultural resonance with Vaishnava bhakti “prema” devotional-romantic love (Radha-Krishna tradition, especially salient in Bengal). A clarifying note describing this as self-giving, covenantal love — not romantic or devotional passion — is recommended wherever this term is doctrinally load-bearing. New to translation memory.

B.16 Perseverance / Endurance

FieldValue
English termPerseverance / Endurance
Originalὑπομονή (hypomonē)
Bengali renderingধৈর্য
TransliterationDhoirjyo
RiskHigh
DoctrinePerseverance under Persecution
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 1:4, 3:5
Rejected alternativesসহিষ্ণুতা (tolerance/forbearance — slightly too passive a connotation)
NotesNamed-doctrine term. Must be qualified in context to convey active, faith-fueled steadfastness rather than passive resignation or karmic acceptance of suffering.

B.17 Traditions

FieldValue
English termTraditions
Originalπαραδόσεις (paradoseis)
Bengali renderingশিক্ষা
TransliterationShiksha
RiskHigh
DoctrineStanding Firm in the Traditions
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:15, 3:6
Rejected alternativesপরম্পরা (the standard Bengali Hindu term for guru-to-disciple lineage transmission — frames apostolic authority within that specific religious-transmission model); ঐতিহ্য (heritage/custom — undersells doctrinal authority as mere cultural custom)
NotesCentral term for a named curriculum doctrine; recommend qualifying as প্রেরিতদের শিক্ষা (“apostolic teaching”) where clarity is needed. Requires mandatory theologian review given its doctrinal centrality.

B.18 Admonish

FieldValue
English termAdmonish
Originalνουθετέω (noutheteō)
Bengali renderingসতর্क করা
TransliterationSotorko kora
RiskMedium
DoctrinePerseverance under Persecution / church discipline
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 3:15
Rejected alternativesউৎসাহিত করা (baseline’s “exhort,” too soft — lacks the corrective edge); বিনতি (baseline’s “entreaty,” wrong register entirely)
NotesDistinct new sense not covered by baseline’s “exhort” entry; flag for native-speaker review given Bengali honor/shame social dynamics around correction and church discipline (cf. 3:14’s ἐντρέπω, “be ashamed”).

B.19 Temple of God

FieldValue
English termTemple of God
Originalναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ (naos tou theou)
Bengali renderingঈশ্বরের মন্দির
TransliterationIshshorer mondir
RiskCritical
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:4
Rejected alternativesমণ্ডলী/গির্জা (would wrongly conflate this with “church,” a distinct baseline term; also historically inaccurate to the passage’s temple imagery)
Notesমন্দির is consistent with established mainstream Bengali Bible usage for the literal Jerusalem Temple elsewhere in Scripture (distinct from the baseline’s rejection of মন্দির only as a substitute for ekklesia/church). The referent of “the temple” here (literal future temple, symbolic church, God’s presence generally) is a genuine interpretive debate requiring theologian review; flag residual risk that Hindu-background readers may momentarily picture a Hindu মন্দির, mitigated by a contextual note.

B.20 Satan (transliteration confirmation)

FieldValue
English termSatan
OriginalΣατανᾶς (Satanas)
Bengali renderingশয়তান
TransliterationShoytan
RiskMedium
DoctrineThe Man of Lawlessness
Primary passages2 Thessalonians 2:9
Rejected alternativesNone proposed
NotesShared transliteration across Bengali Christian, Muslim, and general usage does not create the same doctrinal collision risk documented elsewhere (e.g., ঈসা/যীশু), since the underlying concept — a personal evil spiritual adversary — is broadly compatible across traditions. Retain as standard usage; Medium risk reflects general care around spiritual-warfare vocabulary, not a specific syncretism threat.

This glossary is a Phase 1 Step 1 deliverable, extending but never contradicting the Romans baseline translation_memory.json. All Part B entries are proposals for Phase 2 adoption into translation memory, pending theologian review as flagged. Part A entries are non-negotiable per the baseline governance rule.

Critical Risk Terms

Day Of The Lord

Approved rendering: প্রভুর দিন
Transliteration: Provur din
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: কিয়ামত, যুগান্ত, কল্পান্ত
Original: ἡ ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου
Category: Eschatology

New term. Built transparently on established প্রভু. NEVER কিয়ামত (Qur’anic Judgment Day tied to a distinct Islamic resurrection/weighed-deeds eschatology) nor যুগান্ত/কল্পান্ত (Hindu cyclical end-of-age/cosmic-dissolution terms). 2 Thessalonians 2:2’s claim that the Day ‘has [already] arrived’ (ἐνέστηκεν) must use a completed/settled-state Bengali verb, not a future ‘is coming’ verb, since Paul’s whole argument refutes a false present-tense claim.

Eternal Destruction

Approved rendering: অনন্ত বিনাশ
Transliteration: Ononto binash
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: প্রলয়
Original: ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος
Category: Judgment

New term for ὄλεθρος αἰώνιος (1:9). NEVER প্রলয় (proloy), the standard Hindu term for cyclical cosmic dissolution (mahapralaya). অনন্ত must co-occur with বিনাশ at every single occurrence — this pairing should be an automated Phase 2 validation check.

Father

Approved rendering: পিতা
Transliteration: Pita
Doctrine: Adoption into God’s Family
Rejected alternatives: ব্রহ্মা, সৃষ্টিকর্তা
Original: πατήρ
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:1, 1:2, 2:16.

God

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বর
Transliteration: Ishshor
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ভগবান, আল্লাহ
Original: θεός
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Thessalonians.

Holy Spirit

Approved rendering: পবিত্র আত্মা
Transliteration: Pobitro Attha
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: ব্রহ্ম, পরমাত্মা
Original: πνεῦμα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 2:13, “sanctification of the Spirit.”

Jesus

Approved rendering: যীশু
Transliteration: Jishu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: ঈসা
Original: Ἰησοῦς
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER ঈসা. Used throughout 2 Thessalonians.

Lord

Approved rendering: প্রভু
Transliteration: provu
Doctrine: Lordship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: মালিক, ঈশ্বর
Original: κύριος
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Thessalonians; root of this letter’s new coined phrase প্রভুর দিন (Day of the Lord) and প্রভুর বচন (word of the Lord, 3:1).

Man Of Lawlessness

Approved rendering: ব্যবস্থাহীনতার মানুষ
Transliteration: Bebosthahinota’r manush
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: অধর্মের মানুষ, পাপপুরুষ, দাজ্জাল
Original: ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας / ὁ ἄνομος
Category: Eschatology

New term, central to a named curriculum doctrine. Coined on baseline ব্যবস্থা, not the ধর্ম root. NEVER দাজ্জাল, the Islamic false-messiah/Antichrist figure with its own hadith-based end-times narrative — must never be used, even in explanatory footnotes, without explicit theologian-reviewed clarification that the figures are not the same.

Messiah

Approved rendering: খ্রীষ্ট
Transliteration: Khrishto
Doctrine: Messianic Promise
Rejected alternatives: মশীহ, অবতার পুরুষ
Original: Χριστός
Category: Christology

Inherited from Romans package. Used throughout 2 Thessalonians.

Parousia

Approved rendering: আগমন
Transliteration: Agomon
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord / The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: উপস্থিতি (Jehovah’s Witnesses NWT ‘presence’ rendering, supporting Watchtower’s invisible-1914-presence doctrine), a distinct/lesser word for the lawless one’s counterfeit coming
Original: παρουσία
Category: Eschatology

New term. MUST be the SAME Bengali word for Christ’s true coming (2:1, 2:8) and the lawless one’s counterfeit coming (2:9), to preserve Paul’s deliberate ironic lexical mirroring; the distinction is carried by qualifiers (ἐπιφάνεια/appearing; κατ’ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ/according to Satan’s working), never by switching the base noun. NEVER উপস্থিতি.

Righteous Judgment

Approved rendering: ধার্মিক বিচার
Transliteration: Dharmik bichar
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: ন্যায্য বিচার
Original: δίκαιον κρίμα / τὸ ἔνδικον
Category: Judgment

New term for δίκαιον κρίμα / τὸ ἔνδικον (1:5-6). Built directly on the baseline Critical term ধার্মিক/ধার্মিকতা. NEVER ন্যায্য বিচার — ন্যায় is a baseline-listed rejected alternative for the righteousness word-family; using it here would introduce a second, competing root into a doctrine this curriculum anchors to a single root.

Righteousness

Approved rendering: ধার্মিকতা
Transliteration: dharmikota
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: ধর্ম, পুণ্য, ন্যায়

CRITICAL: NEVER ধর্ম. Inherited from Romans package; its root ধার্মিক underlies this letter’s new coined term ধার্মিক বিচার (righteous judgment) and the negated compound অধার্মিকতার প্রতারণা (deception of unrighteousness).

Salvation

Approved rendering: পরিত্রাণ
Transliteration: poritran
Doctrine: Salvation
Rejected alternatives: মুক্তি, মোক্ষ, নাজাত
Original: σωτηρία
Category: Salvation

CRITICAL: NEVER মুক্তি, মোক্ষ, or নাজাত. Inherited from Romans package; appears in 2 Thessalonians 2:10 and 2:13.

Satanic Power

Approved rendering: পরাক্রম (প্রতারণামূলক পরাক্রম)
Transliteration: Porakrom (protaronamulok porakrom)
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness / Power of God (contrast)
Rejected alternatives: সামর্থ্য (reserved exclusively for God’s genuine power), শক্তি (forbidden per baseline; Shakta goddess-power resonance, doubly risky here as it could valorize demonic power as authentic tantric-style শক্তি)
Original: δύναμις (κατ’ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ)
Category: Eschatology

New term for δύναμις in 2 Thessalonians 2:9 (Satan’s derivative power). Always qualified প্রতারণামূলক (deceptive). This deliberately extends the baseline’s power_of_god convention into a strict two-word, non-interchangeable system: সামর্থ্য for God only, পরাক্রম for Satan only. Mandatory theologian review every occurrence.

Son Of Destruction

Approved rendering: বিনাশের পুত্র
Transliteration: Binasher putro
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
Category: Eschatology

New term. MANDATORY translator note required at every occurrence, explicitly distinguishing this Hebraic ‘destined-for’ idiom from any structural or ontological parallel to ঈশ্বরের পুত্র (Son of God). The two ‘son of X’ phrases must never appear to share theological weight; they stand in deliberate antithesis. Do not avoid পুত্র altogether (that would lose the recognizable biblical idiom) — mitigate by mandatory note, not by lexical avoidance.

Son Of God

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বরের পুত্র
Transliteration: Ishshorer Putro
Doctrine: Sonship of Christ
Rejected alternatives: দেবপুত্র, ঈশ্বরের অংশ

Inherited from Romans package. Not directly quoted as a title in 2 Thessalonians’s text, but retained here as the mandatory reference anchor: this letter’s new term বিনাশের পুত্র (son of destruction, 2:3) must never structurally or theologically echo this phrase. The two are antithetical, not analogous.

Temple Of God

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বরের মন্দির
Transliteration: Ishshorer mondir
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: মণ্ডলী/গির্জা
Original: ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Eschatology

New term for ναὸς τοῦ θεοῦ (2:4). মন্দির is consistent with mainstream Bengali Bible usage for the literal Jerusalem Temple, distinct from মণ্ডলী/গির্জা (church, a separate baseline term). The referent (literal future temple, symbolic church, God’s presence) is a genuine, unresolved interpretive debate that translation must not silently decide. Flag residual risk that Hindu-background readers may momentarily picture a Hindu মন্দির; a contextual note is recommended, and ঈশ্বরের must never be dropped even in oral/spoken shorthand.

The Lawless One

Approved rendering: ব্যবস্থাহীন ব্যক্তি
Transliteration: Bebosthahin bekti
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness

New term. Shorthand used at 2 Thessalonians 2:8 (ὁ ἄνομος). Must remain visibly in the same word family as ব্যবস্থাহীনতার মানুষ so the reader recognizes the same figure. The Greek’s singular personal grammatical referent must be preserved; do not dissolve into an abstract ‘spirit of evil.‘

Working Of Delusion

Approved rendering: ভ্রান্তির কার্যকরতা
Transliteration: Bhrantir karyokorota
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: ভ্রান্তির শক্তি
Original: ἐνέργεια πλάνης
Category: Judgment

New term for ἐνέργεια πλάνης (2:11). Must preserve that this is God’s judicial hardening in RESPONSE to prior human refusal of the truth (2:10) — not arbitrary divine causation of evil belief, and not a merely permissive act, and not impersonal karmic causation (কর্মফল-adjacent fatalism). Mandatory theologian review.

High Risk Terms

Apostasy

Approved rendering: বিশ্বাসত্যাগ
Transliteration: Bishwas-tyag
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord / The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: ধর্মভ্রষ্টতা, বিদ্রোহ
Original: ἡ ἀποστασία
Category: Faith

New term, built cleanly on established বিশ্বাস. NEVER ধর্মভ্রষ্টতা (shares flagged ধর্ম root) nor বিদ্রোহ (too generic/political, reads as a colonial-style political uprising rather than religious defection).

Ashamed

Approved rendering: লজ্জিত হওয়া
Transliteration: Lojjito howa
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Corrective Admonition
Original: ἐντρέπω
Category: Church

New term for ἐντρέπω (3:14). The corrective, not punitive, goal of withdrawing fellowship. Flag for native-speaker review given unusually salient Bengali honor/shame social dynamics; must not be framed as public shaming or communal exclusion.

Belief Of The Lie

Approved rendering: মিথ্যাকে বিশ্বাস করা
Transliteration: Mithyake bishwas kora
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness / Faith
Original: πιστεῦσαι τῷ ψεύδει
Category: Faith

New term for πιστεῦσαι τῷ ψεύδει (2:11). Must reuse established বিশ্বাস so the Greek’s deliberate wordplay (same verb, opposite object, contrasted with believing the truth, 2:12) survives visibly in Bengali.

Called

Approved rendering: আহুত
Transliteration: ahuto
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Rejected alternatives: আমন্ত্রিত, নিমন্ত্রিত

Inherited from Romans package.

Calling

Approved rendering: আহ্বান
Transliteration: ahban
Doctrine: Divine Calling
Original: κλῆσις / κλητός
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:11 (worthy of God’s calling) and 2:14 (called through the gospel).

Deception Of Unrighteousness

Approved rendering: অধার্মিকতার প্রতারণা
Transliteration: Odharmikotar protarona
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: ἀπάτη ἀδικίας
Category: Sin

New term for ἀπάτη ἀδικίας (2:10). Built on the negation of baseline Critical term ধার্মিকতা, preserving terminological continuity with Romans’ salvation vocabulary. Deception rooted in rejection of God’s righteousness, not neutral trickery.

Election Choice

Approved rendering: মনোনীত করা
Transliteration: Monōnīto kôra
Doctrine: Election and Effectual Calling
Original: εἵλατο (αἱρέομαι)
Category: Salvation

New term for εἵλατο/αἱρέομαι (2:13). Deliberately built on the baseline election term’s root (ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন) for cross-curriculum consistency, though the underlying Greek verb differs from Romans’ ἐκλογή. Must convey sovereign, gracious, personal choice — never ভাগ্য/নিয়তি (fate) or কর্মফল-adjacent karmic destiny.

Election

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বরের মনোনয়ন
Transliteration: Ishshorer monownoyon
Doctrine: Effectual Calling
Rejected alternatives: ভাগ্য, নিয়তি, কর্মফল

Inherited from Romans package. Not the Greek word underlying 2 Thessalonians 2:13 (εἵλατο, a different verb from Romans’ ἐκλογή), but its root মনোনয়ন/মনোনীত is deliberately reused to coin this letter’s মনোনীত করা (election_choice) for cross-curriculum vocabulary consistency.

Energeia Working

Approved rendering: কার্যকরতা
Transliteration: Karyokorota
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: শক্তি
Original: ἐνέργεια
Category: Eschatology

New term for ἐνέργεια. Used both for Satan’s active outworking (2:9) and God’s judicial ‘working of delusion’ (2:11, ভ্রান্তির কার্যকরতা) — same base noun, disambiguated by grammatical subject and context, never শক্তি in either case.

Faith

Approved rendering: বিশ্বাস
Transliteration: bishwas
Doctrine: Faith
Rejected alternatives: ঈমান, শ্রদ্ধা
Original: πίστις
Category: Faith

Personal trust in Christ. Inherited from Romans package; also the root of new-coined বিশ্বাসত্যাগ (apostasy) and বিশ্বাসযোগ্য/বিশ্বস্ত (faithful) in this letter.

Faithful

Approved rendering: বিশ্বাসযোগ্য / বিশ্বস্ত
Transliteration: Bishwasyogyo / bishwosto
Doctrine: Faith
Original: πιστός
Category: Faith

New term for πιστός (3:3), describing the Lord’s own faithfulness/reliability, not the human act of believing. Deliberately built from established বিশ্বাস for terminological consistency.

Glory

Approved rendering: মহিমা
Transliteration: mohima
Doctrine: Deity of Christ
Rejected alternatives: জ্যোতি, তেজ
Original: δόξα
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER তেজ. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:9, 1:10, 1:12, 2:14, Christ’s glory revealed at his coming and reflected in his saints.

Gospel

Approved rendering: সুসমাচার
Transliteration: susomachar
Doctrine: Gospel
Rejected alternatives: খুশ খবর, ইঞ্জিল
Original: εὐαγγέλιον
Category: Salvation

Established Bengali Christian term (“good news”). ইঞ্জিল is the Qur’anic/Muslim-idiom term for a presumed lost scripture given to Isa and is rejected. Inherited from Romans package; appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:8 (obedience to the gospel) and 2:14 (called through the gospel).

Grace

Approved rendering: অনুগ্রহ
Transliteration: anugroho
Doctrine: Grace
Rejected alternatives: কৃপা, পুণ্য, ভাগ্য
Original: χάρις
Category: Salvation

Unmerited favor from God. Inherited from Romans package; frames the letter’s opening (1:2), the ground of comfort (2:16), and closing benediction (3:18).

Holy

Approved rendering: পবিত্র
Transliteration: pobitro
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: শুচি, নির্মল
Original: ἅγιος
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package; root of পবিত্র লোক (saints, 1:10) and পবিত্রীকরণ (sanctification, 2:13).

Law

Approved rendering: ব্যবস্থা
Transliteration: bebostha
Doctrine: Fulfillment of Prophecy
Rejected alternatives: ধর্ম, শরিয়ত, নিয়ম

Inherited from Romans package. Not independently quoted in 2 Thessalonians but its root is the deliberate foundation of this letter’s new coined term-family ব্যবস্থাহীনতা/ব্যবস্থাহীনতার মানুষ (lawlessness / man of lawlessness), chosen specifically to avoid the ধর্ম root.

Lawlessness

Approved rendering: ব্যবস্থাহীনতা
Transliteration: Bebosthahinota
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: অধর্ম
Original: ἀνομία
Category: Sin

New term, base of the ব্যবস্থাহীনতা word-family (man of lawlessness, mystery of lawlessness, the lawless one). NEVER অধর্ম, which shares the risky ধর্ম root the baseline flags for righteousness.

Love Of The Truth

Approved rendering: সত্যের প্রেম
Transliteration: Shotyer prem
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness / Faith
Original: ἡ ἀγάπη τῆς ἀληθείας
Category: Faith

New term for ἡ ἀγάπη τῆς ἀληθείας (2:10). Combines established সত্য and প্রেম. The saving response the lost refused — wholehearted embrace, not mere intellectual assent. Carries the same প্রেম/bhakti-collision risk as ‘love’ generally.

Love

Approved rendering: প্রেম
Transliteration: Prem
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: ভালোবাসা
Original: ἀγάπη
Category: Faith

New term for ἀγάπη. Retained as the historically stabilized Bengali Bible term despite strong Vaishnava bhakti ‘prema’ (Radha-Krishna devotional-romantic) resonance, on the same reasoning the baseline applies to ঈশ্বর. Requires a clarifying note (‘self-giving, covenantal love, not romantic or devotional passion’) wherever doctrinally load-bearing (1:3, 2:10’s সত্যের প্রেম, 3:5).

Mystery Of Lawlessness

Approved rendering: ব্যবস্থাহীনতার রহস্য
Transliteration: Bebosthahinota’r rohosyo
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Rejected alternatives: নিগূঢ়তত্ত্ব
Original: τὸ μυστήριον τῆς ἀνομίας
Category: Eschatology

New term. Reuses ordinary রহস্য (mystery), Paul’s usual positive revelatory term, applied here ironically to something evil. Requires a footnote flagging the reversal so it is not read as an error, and so evil is not subconsciously read as divinely sanctioned in the same positive sense.

Perseverance

Approved rendering: ধৈর্য
Transliteration: Dhoirjyo
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution
Rejected alternatives: সহিষ্ণুতা, ত্যাগ
Original: ὑπομονή
Category: Perseverance

New term, named-doctrine term, for ὑπομονή. Must be qualified in context (e.g., নিপীড়নের মধ্যে বিশ্বাসে দৃঢ় থাকার ধৈর্য at first use per lesson) so its everyday ‘patience’ sense does not flatten the doctrine into passive resignation or karma-fatalism. NEVER ত্যাগ (evokes Hindu/Buddhist ascetic renunciation, wrong axis of meaning).

Power Of God

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বরের সামর্থ্য
Transliteration: Ishshorer shamorthyo
Doctrine: Power of God for Salvation
Rejected alternatives: শক্তি
Original: δύναμις (θεοῦ)
Category: God

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER শক্তি. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:11, God’s genuine power fulfilling believers’ good works. সামর্থ্য is reserved EXCLUSIVELY for God’s power in this curriculum; it must never be applied to Satan’s counterfeit power (see পরাক্রম, satanic_power, below).

Recompense Repay

Approved rendering: প্রতিফল দেওয়া
Transliteration: Protiphol dewa
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment

New term for ἀνταποδίδωμι (1:6), the verbal counterpart of vengeance/প্রতিফল above: affliction repaid to afflicters, relief to the afflicted. Keep lexically related to, but grammatically distinct from, the noun প্রতিফল (ἐκδίκησις, 1:8).

Restrainer Impersonal

Approved rendering: নিবারক বিষয়
Transliteration: Nibarok bishoy
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness / Providence
Rejected alternatives: a single undifferentiated term shared with the personal form

New term for τὸ κατέχον (2:6, neuter). Must be paired with a mandatory translator note preserving the genuine scholarly ambiguity about the restrainer’s identity, and distinguished from নিবারণকারী (2:7, personal) to preserve the Greek’s neuter-to-masculine grammatical shift, which Bengali does not mark automatically.

Restrainer Personal

Approved rendering: নিবারণকারী
Transliteration: Nibaronkari
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness / Providence
Rejected alternatives: a single undifferentiated term shared with the impersonal form

New term for ὁ κατέχων (2:7, masculine/personal). Signals a personal restraining agent, distinct from the impersonal নিবারক বিষয় (2:6). Requires the same mandatory translator note as restrainer_impersonal.

Saints

Approved rendering: পবিত্র লোক
Transliteration: pobitro lok
Doctrine: Sainthood
Rejected alternatives: সাধু, সাধুগণ
Original: ἅγιοι
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. NEVER সাধু/সাধুগণ. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:10, Christ glorified in his saints at his coming.

Sanctification

Approved rendering: পবিত্রীকরণ
Transliteration: pobitrikoron
Doctrine: Sanctification
Rejected alternatives: শুদ্ধিকরণ
Original: ἁγιασμός
Category: Sanctification

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 2:13, “sanctification of the Spirit” as part of the ground of believers’ salvation.

Signs And Wonders Of Falsehood

Approved rendering: মিথ্যার চিহ্ন ও আশ্চর্য কাজ
Transliteration: Mithyar chinho o ashcharyo kaj
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ψεύδους
Category: Eschatology

New term for σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ψεύδους (2:9). The qualifier মিথ্যার must NEVER be dropped: Bengali folk-Hindu and folk-Muslim culture includes vivid sadhu/fakir/pir wonder-work traditions, and an unqualified rendering risks validating rather than exposing the deceptive character of such displays.

Those Who Are Perishing

Approved rendering: যারা বিনষ্ট হচ্ছে
Transliteration: Jara binashto hochhe
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Original: οἱ ἀπολλύμενοι
Category: Salvation

New term for οἱ ἀπολλύμενοι (2:10). Must preserve the present, ongoing-process sense (present participle); avoid a completed-past rendering that would foreclose any possibility of repentance before the end.

Traditions

Approved rendering: শিক্ষা
Transliteration: Shiksha
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions
Rejected alternatives: পরম্পরা, ঐতিহ্য, রীতি
Original: παραδόσεις
Category: Covenant

New term, central to a named curriculum doctrine, for παραδόσεις (2:15, 3:6). NEVER পরম্পরা (Hindu/Sufi guru-to-disciple lineage transmission — the single highest-exposure lexical choice in this curriculum, since it is also the doctrine’s own name in headers/titles/navigation). NEVER ঐতিহ্য (undersells doctrinal authority as mere custom) nor রীতি (narrows to ritual practice, losing doctrinal content). Qualify as প্রেরিতদের শিক্ষা wherever the authority-claim sense is in view; the qualifier must be preserved even in space-constrained titles/headers.

Truth

Approved rendering: সত্য
Transliteration: Shotyo
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness / Faith
Original: ἀλήθεια
Category: Faith

New term for ἀλήθεια. Structures the truth/lie antithesis of 2:10-13; must render IDENTICALLY at every occurrence (2:10, 2:12, 2:13). Do not vary with সত্যতা or প্রকৃত সত্য for stylistic reasons.

Vengeance

Approved rendering: প্রতিফল
Transliteration: Protiphol
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: প্রতিশোধ, বদলা
Original: ἐκδίκησις
Category: Judgment

New term for ἐκδίκησις (1:8). NEVER প্রতিশোধ (revenge, too emotionally personal) nor বদলা (feud/vendetta-payback, carries Bengali social blood-feud connotations). Must read as God’s own judicial recompense, never glorified human-style vengeance.

Medium Risk Terms

Admonish

Approved rendering: সতর্ক করা
Transliteration: Sotorko kora
Doctrine: Church Discipline and Corrective Admonition
Rejected alternatives: উৎসাহিত করা, বিনতি
Original: νουθετέω
Category: Church

New term for νουθετέω (3:15), distinct from baseline’s উৎসাহিত করা (too soft — no corrective edge) and বিনতি (wrong register — entreaty, not correction). Must be framed as familial correction (‘as a brother,’ not ‘as an enemy’), never resembling caste/communal-identity social ostracism (শাস্তি) patterns.

Affliction

Approved rendering: ক্লেশ
Transliteration: Kles
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution

New term for θλῖψις (1:4, 1:6). General pressure/tribulation, distinct from the more specific organized-hostility sense of নিপীড়ন.

Church

Approved rendering: মণ্ডলী
Transliteration: mondoli
Doctrine: Church as God’s People
Rejected alternatives: মন্দির, গির্জা
Original: ἐκκλησία
Category: Church

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:1. NEVER মন্দির for this sense; মন্দির in this letter is reserved exclusively for the literal ঈশ্বরের মন্দির (temple of God, 2:4), a distinct new term — the two must never be conflated.

Disorderly Walking

Approved rendering: অসংযতভাবে জীবনযাপন করা / অলসভাবে চলা
Transliteration: Oshonjotobhabe jibonjapon kora / Olosbhabe chola
Doctrine: Work Ethic and Idleness in Light of the Day of the Lord

New term for ἀτάκτως (περι)πατοῦντας (3:6, 3:11). Some believers had stopped working, apparently citing imminent eschatology as justification. Requires a cross-reference note connecting this back to chapter 2’s Day-of-the-Lord teaching so the practical stakes are clear, not merely disciplinary.

Episynagoge

Approved rendering: সমবেত হওয়া
Transliteration: Shombeto howa
Doctrine: The Day of the Lord
Rejected alternatives: সমাজ
Original: ἐπισυναγωγή
Category: Eschatology

New term for ἐπισυναγωγή (2:1), the gathering of believers to Christ at his coming. Deliberately kept as a descriptive verbal phrase, not a fixed noun, to avoid false institutional weight. Must not be confused with established মণ্ডলী (church) nor rendered সমাজ, which evokes a Hindu/Muslim community-assembly sense.

Kingdom Of God

Approved rendering: ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য
Transliteration: Ishshorer Rajyo
Doctrine: Kingdom Mission
Rejected alternatives: ঈশ্বরের দেশ
Original: βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ
Category: Kingdom

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:5, suffering believers being made worthy of God’s kingdom.

Peace

Approved rendering: শান্তি
Transliteration: shanti
Doctrine: Peace with God
Rejected alternatives: সুখ, স্বস্তি
Original: εἰρήνη
Category: Salvation

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:2 and 3:16 (“the Lord of peace himself”). স্বস্তি remains rejected; it must also never be used for this letter’s new term ἄνεσις/relief_rest (বিশ্রাম, 1:7), which is a distinct concept from শান্তি.

Persecution

Approved rendering: নিপীড়ন
Transliteration: Nipiron
Doctrine: Perseverance under Persecution

New term for διωγμός (1:4). Organized hostility distinct from generic affliction (see ক্লেশ, below).

Relief Rest

Approved rendering: বিশ্রাম
Transliteration: Bishram
Doctrine: God’s Righteous Judgment
Rejected alternatives: স্বস্তি

New term for ἄνεσις (1:7), the relief promised to persecuted believers at Christ’s return. NEVER স্বস্তি, which the baseline records as a rejected alternative for শান্তি (peace); using it here would blur two distinct doctrinal terms.

Satan

Approved rendering: শয়তান
Transliteration: Shoytan
Doctrine: The Man of Lawlessness
Original: Σατανᾶς
Category: Spiritual Warfare

New term for Σατανᾶς (2:9) and ὁ πονηρός/‘the evil one’ (3:3). Shared transliteration across Bengali Christian, Muslim, and folk usage is NOT a doctrinal collision risk here (unlike ঈসা/যীশু) since the underlying concept — a personal evil spiritual adversary — is broadly stable across traditions with no incompatible theological claim attached to the word itself. Retain as standard usage; no fencing required.

Word Of The Lord

Approved rendering: প্রভুর বচন
Transliteration: Provur bakyo
Doctrine: Standing Firm in the Traditions

New term for ὁ λόγος τοῦ κυρίου (3:1), the gospel message’s advance and honor. Built on established প্রভু.

Low Risk Terms

Exhort

Approved rendering: উৎসাহিত করা
Transliteration: utshahito kora
Doctrine: Mutual Edification
Original: παρακαλέω
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 2:17 and 3:12. Distinct from this letter’s new term সতর্ক করা (admonish, νουθετέω), which carries a corrective edge উৎসাহিত করা does not.

Thanksgiving

Approved rendering: ধন্যবাদ
Transliteration: dhonnobad
Doctrine: Thanksgiving
Original: εὐχαριστία
Category: Faith

Inherited from Romans package. Appears in 2 Thessalonians 1:3 and 2:13.
